Ciara’s ‘Basic Instinct’ Bumped To September

Published: Monday 19th Jul 2010 by Sam

That Grape Juice has received reliable word that the release of Ciara’s hotly anticipated ‘Basic Instinct’ LP has been re-scheduled. Initially set  for release on  August 17th, the album – her fourth – will now arrive in stores in September. An official announcement is expected shortly.

Though I’m sure some will snigger, a slight delay is undeniably what this project needs. For, with just 3 weeks before the original date, there have been no promotional appearances, new videos, or anything of that variety. As the music ‘biz has shown over and over again, timing is is everything.

Ciara is in a re-establishing phase, hence for her to truly make an impact again, everything needs to be in place. Yes, ‘Ride’ is a top ten hit on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Chart (with airplay increasing everyday), but the video for follow-up single ‘Gimme That’ will no doubt have to be in circulation before the album drops, as well as Ciara herself doing the promotional rounds. In any case, it looks as if her team are handling the project with the level of attentiveness it needs. Here’s hoping all works out.

Tidbit: Aren’t the MTV VMA’s in early September? Just saying…

damn I was really looking forward to it.

  3. Robjr Loves Ciara July 19, 2010

ugh, this is what I did not want. I was wondering why no major promotion hadn’t started…. It’s not so bad tho, I’m itching for a pre-album tour……roll on September

  4. Minaj July 19, 2010

It’s cool. September looking good so far.

Hopefully some of these uptight networks will allow her to perform.

MTV awards make it happen please! I want to see a Ride performance!

  5. Bugsy July 19, 2010

    @BeyBeyBey

It’s still coming out. A lot of album have been pushed back. T.I, Kelly Rowland etc.

It’s the summer of Eminem right now.

  6. CiaraMedlies July 19, 2010

ugh, i guess we’ll see more promo!!

  7. ImYourStar702 July 19, 2010

Push backs are never a good thing.

  8. The Model M&M July 19, 2010

Sam your right!!!!! I’m not gonna lie I was really looking forward to it coming out on the 17th but I’d rather wait and have the album be promoted correctly and be successful versus it come out to early and it flop because of lack of promotion. Lol

  9. Bugsy July 19, 2010

    @I’myourstar

It’s just a few weeks. Not like she’s pushed it to December or something.

The positive side is that she will have more time to do performances and proper promotion. She has a couple of show in August coming and now they can schedule more without a time restraint. 🙂

  10. vampiregreen520vampire July 19, 2010

Push backs are never a good thing.

  11. Bugsy July 19, 2010

Everybody gets pushed back. Drake got pushed back and he sold just fine after his pre-album tour.

    Timing is everything.

As long as her team keep a tight lid on the music and there are no leaks… a few weeks here and there makes no difference.

  12. RosaRubbel July 19, 2010

Oh, I was really looking forward to it. I’m disappointed, but if she needs the pushback, I’ll hope for better & more performances & good 1st week sales.

  13. Beydebest July 19, 2010

Why doesn’t she do promotion? WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER LABEL?!!!! Ride has FLOPPED in the UK! why? because she’s done JACK ALL! PEOPLE DON’T REMEMBER HER OVER HERE!

Ciara and her label need to understand that the US is NOT the only music market in the world..!

Love them or hate them, both Rihanna and Beyonce have one of the best music management/label ever.. they’re chucking out singles, LEFT RIGHT AND CENTRE. Ciara’s Ride is just a flop.. why doesn’t she release another song to radio and see how it does?

I’m afraid this whole era is going to go bottoms up for *sings* Ciiiiiaraaaaaaaaaaaa uhuhhhhh

  14. BEYDABEST2.0 July 19, 2010

@beydabest dont worry the push back is for a good reason.. they took note of what they did wrong last era and have perfected it and now they have everything in place now singles are already lined up from what i heard

  15. royalkev July 19, 2010

I actually felt good about the 17th and wasn’t worried about first week sales. I think the concern was only for Ciara to keep the momentum going with her big performances. I still hope the 17th happens. I don’t want her to release a new single (until September) because I don’t want that interfering with Ride’s peaking on the charts. If she does have a hit on her hands with the next single(and it’s released in September) then again, that will only help her build on what success she would have already acquired. Ride seems as if it has a shot at finding HOT 100 success (it may not be a guarantee, but it might be a slow burn). I guess this push back can be a good a thing. I just saw 0 need for this!

  16. yeeeehhhh right July 19, 2010

this s*** right here is deja vu
    she better strat prnoting ASAP

  17. ADE July 19, 2010

    @Bugsy
that was Drake, this is Ciara. Drake had mad hype and promo ahead of his release, Ciara has…nothing. I knew it was going to get pushed back, it was inevitable. Her and her label really need to get their s*** together, still no promo?? It’s just getting ridiculous

  18. Matt July 19, 2010

    Future flop.com!!

  19. The Way I Izzzzzzzzzz July 19, 2010

Thats how much she cares about her USED TO-Be Career…So if she doesn’t care why the hell should we………Her ass going to weddings and s*** and still no “MAJOR” Perfromance of “Ride”…

It’s too late now cause Monica Alicia Keys and Usher are slamming the R&B Charts and on top of that Kelly’s “Grown Woman” is #51 with nooooo promotion AT ALL ! ! ! !

Ciara Get it together plzzzzzzzzz….That 2nd Single Video better be EPIC…..Im talking Janet Jackson Micheal GOOD ! ! ! ! ! Stick to your STRONG POINT…DANCE……

  20. D July 19, 2010

If she didn’t care y would it be pushed back. Get some sence. Anyway it’s better not to be pushed back but it happens. Gimme dat is a banger. We got to be able to promote it everywhere unlike ride. But ride served it’s purpose

  21. Bugsy July 19, 2010

    @D

I agree. I don’t think she was able to perform Ride at a lot of tv shows because of the perception that these biased channels had about the content of the song.
BET banning the song didn’t help.

  22. Bugsy July 19, 2010

    @Ade

That proves my point that pushbacks aren’t necessarily a bad thing. I’m saying Ciara is Drake but my point stands that releasing an album when the time is right is better than rushing it out just to meet an arbitrary date set by some label person.

  23. Last Boy on Earth July 19, 2010

I agree with you and I was looking forward to it but you know if it was Rihanna you would be throwing shade with a 2 page essay “justsayin’

Can’t wait to see the new performances coming up!

    Whoop whoop!

  26. okkk July 19, 2010

I am kind of glad its being pushed back. “Ride” is a urban hit but by Aug. people would have been over it. Hopefully the “”Gimme Dat” video is fire and give her the uptempo jam she needs to get some of her old fans back.

  27. TeamCiaraMinaj July 19, 2010

NOOOOOOOO WHYYYYYY CIARA I REALLY THOUGHT U WERE DOIN GOOD PLEASE LET THIS BE A RUMOR I DONE TELL ALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS IT WAS COMING OUT AUGUST 17, PLEASE LET IT BE A LIE, U WILL SELL CICI ! I KNO U WILL ! WE STANZ GOTCHU !

@ TeamCiaraMinaj, I’m with you! I feel like she will do fine by the 17th. I know alot of people that was going to have her back that week. C’mon Cici!

  30. mishka July 19, 2010

First Kelly, now Ciara. Okay What is this????

Are those girls afraid of “Put it in a Love Song” ‘s video release or what?

Bee and A are both on hormonal treatment / maternity leave, the other girls better drop their sutff while they can!

In September, the place will be crowded, it will Kanye’s big return as well. And Britney is already hitting the studio.

    Hurry up, girls!

  31. Okay July 19, 2010

@mishka I’m with you. These girls are waiting until September to release albums when other big name artists are releasing albums in September. Ride has been out for months and Ciara still hasn’t been promoting it? Why? just because BET banned the video?? Her stans are trying to give her the benefit of the doubt by saying this a good thing and maybe she needs more time. Take it how you want it but Beyonce made an album in 2 weeks and released it. So what’s with all the push backs? The-Dream was right, Ciara is on her last leg and I like her and I really want her to be successful because she can dance but This releasing singles and doing no promotion is not a good thing. I better not hear another single from her until the end of August or the beginning of September or she will flop.

  32. FreshUrbanEnt July 19, 2010

WTF IM SICK OF THESE ARTISTS CHANGING THE RELEASE DATES OF THER ALBUM. JUST PICK ONE AND STICK TO IT!

  33. Pucci July 19, 2010

Man, i hope this is the only “PUSH BACK” I was saving up my money for August the 17th too… I mean this is what kinda killed her last album last time, so agin i’m hope this is the last & only push back & that she does some more promotion… I should’ve seen this coming when i heard that she was doing more recording for the album.

  34. CIARADABESS July 19, 2010

If it’s for that reason I think it was smart for them to do that. I would love to see Ciara perform at the VMA’s on the week of her album release date. That would be EPIC.

  35. The Last Song July 19, 2010

Everybody thought that Kelis is the flop of the year??? Wait until this album comes out!!! that’s if it gets released at all. But in my books Ciara’s shortlived career is DEAD & BURIED. She should attempt acting like Christina Millian did, and see if it works…

  36. BENJAMIN July 19, 2010

That is just how the music business is today.

  37. royalkev July 19, 2010

@ Mishka, I have to agree with you. Why are these girls waiting? Beyonce is on a break, A. Keys is waiting for the arrival of her baby, Gaga is in between albums, Britney is not coming out until the fall(I believe), Xtina’s era is in trouble(which takes her out of the equation, until she makes a new album) and Rihanna is working on new material. On top of that Justin Timberlake is quiet and Usher is half way through an album. What is the hold up?… Seriously!!! It’s obvious that the time is now to strike. If Kanye is coming out in September it’s a wrap for almost another year! I hope that won’t start a domino effect. I don’t think it’s going to be clear like this again until Spring(maybe summer) 2011 and I have hopes that Brandy will be dropping then! Ciara is clearly in a position to do better than these last few that have dropped or is planning to(Monica, Kelly Rowland, Kelis, M.I.A, Keyshia Cole and Dirty Money). I hope her camp is taking this into consideration!

  38. Tia July 19, 2010

gimme dat is really the second single???? WOW, I don’t see this song helping her. It sounds like something that would be a hit for a non singing white artist.

    non celeb talk

  39. Roab July 19, 2010

I actually feel sorry for all these musicans. There’s no formula that fits the “Pop Hit” mold anymore. People want to be entertained, talent, and something new. The amout of $$$ invested in making an album is crazy and these days who can say if it will sell. Ciara needs to come hard with her signature Southen Crunk and B style. NO ONE ELSE IS DOING THIS. It’s her market and stop trying to prove she can sing and stop dropping these pathitic weak POP and R&B tracks. G’luck.

  40. mindgames July 20, 2010

i hope Basic B**** gets shelved

  41. cocoa49 July 20, 2010

Wow Ciara. This would have been the best time to drop. The ball was in her corner. Why would they do this? i hope it is for a good reason. I have not been a fan of ciara for sometime but i was starting to feel her music again. Damn by Sept. i will have forgot all about her because some of my other favorite artist will be dropping an album. I wonder is she will being doing upstream to explain this change

  42. Niko August 14, 2010

@BeyDaTheBest Why Is Lien Ride Is Not Flopping At All

  43. breitling bentley August 12, 2011

I didnЎЇt quite get this when I first read it. But when I went through it a second time, it all became clear. Thanks for the insight.
