With Jazmine Sullivan‘s sophomore LP ‘Love Me Back’ but a few weeks away from release, a new song from the set has surfaced in the form of ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’.
Take a listen to the funkified cut after the jump…
Audio bliss!
Markedly different to any of Sullivan’s previous offerings, the song hits a home-run in that it’s dually retrospective, yet ‘current’. Madonna‘s ‘Holiday’ is clearly channelled on the sugary-sweet production, while Sullivan’s raspy-raw vocals pierce through it, cultivating some fresh, edgy, and ultimately hers in the process. A winner and then some.
Sullivan’s ‘Love Me Back’ hits stores on November 29th.

It’s sounds more like a homage to Prince and the sounds of Vanity 6 to me than Madonna. Either way, it’s pretty dope.

@ Michael, I agree. This song is definatly reminiscent of Prince’s music, sounds like a record produced by the Dream. I gotta say this record has the potential to push Jazmine’s career over the edge. She has the right sound, with enough promotion and good videos I can’t see why this album shouldn’t go at least gold (how much can you expect in today’s climate) It deserves to go platinum. I love every song that I’ve heard thus far.

I gave it a second listen and I see why some may feel like it has a little of Madonna’s holiday in it…especially during the chorus.

It’s definitely a Prince-like sound, but the baseline reminds me of Aretha’s “Jump to It.” Either way, I love it. Very retro and doesn’t sound like anyone else right now.

This is bad! I agree with those who were to0 put off to leave a comment but who voted against it. It is derivative and boring. I would not buy this song nor would I wish to hear it repeatedly on my local station or club PA.
