Something tells me that the video is going to be better than the song. I liked the ballad-y version of BTW in the NRJ snipet. That sounded like an anthem. Artistically, it would’ve shown a lot of growth for her too because, thus far, she’s only released up-tempo, dance pop tracks. The way she sung the sample of Born This Way when she won her final award of the night at last year’s VMA’S sounded much than this. I was expecting the song to be a pop ballad, with violins, not boringly slow, but not a dance track either. I imagined this song to be exactly the way she sung it at the VMA’s last year in her acceptance speech. Without a doubt, this song will grow on many people because it will receive massive airplay. It´s good but maybe the hype was too much. Defenitely better than any of the other girls under 30 years old on today´s industry, who in addition use to be puppets.
Maybe what I don´t really like is the chorus, it lacks something to me. But it´s a good effort.
One thing I´m having more and more clear on my mind is that mariah Carey is truly one of the better artists (songwriter+singer) of the last 20 years. She made records like crazy one per year in the 90´s and still they were all great and she still made more and more great music in the 00´s. Anyone else notice that this tired song sounds like the 80’s white-trash child of David Guetta/Kelly Rowland’s ‘When Love Takes Over’ and Enrique Iglesias’ ‘I like It’. Lady Gaga’s voice isn’t even particularly strong in this snooze fest. If this single is a testament to her new album I can officially say that Lady Gaga just bought herself a one-way ticket to temporary pop phenomwnon status ala Spicegirls and the Macarena. Sooo sad because I loved her music. She has lost her touch. Oh well no more anticipation for this album. Bring on Britney and Beyonce please.
I agree you guys. This is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Madonna. I thought Gaga would try to separate herself of being compared with her idol but I guess she’s comfortable in that position. I don’t hate the song, the music is super energetic but I swear that when you’re listening to BTW you feel you’re hearing also Express Yourself. I’m disappointed, I think we all had high expectations for this song;. I think she failed, she didn’t deliver.
This was okay. It was overly hyped for sure. I would have rathered a slowed down acapella version like when she performed the chorus on the MTV Awards. Elton John definitely got it wrong, this will never touch Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive. We shall see about the video and the album. She is definitely gonna have to have some smashes on this album to stay at the top…..definitely a buzz single!!!!

I’ve been a monster for two and half years. I have been waiting to hear this song since last March when she first started talking about it. For the past couple of months, I have been getting more and more hyped for it.
And I am disappointed as f*ck.
Although the lyrics are decent (and, no, they are not great. ‘Don’t be a drag etcetera, etcetera, et f*cking cetera), the beat is generic at best (it sounds like a mash-up of several house hits) and Gaga’s signature strong vocals are AWOL. I can’t believe that some of my fellow monsters are acting like it’s the best thing since Jesus, when, in reality, if someone else had released it, they would have thrown shade like a Redwood.
It goes without saying that I expected so much more. After months of hype and Elton and Perez banging on and on (though I took the latter’s comments with a bucket of salt), I really thought this would be one of the songs of the decade. It’s not even the song of the year.
Better than ‘I Will Survive’? Really? Mamma Monster’s ‘Like A Prayer’ (which still sh*ts to this day, BTW – no pun intended :D)?

Since my last comment I´ve heard the song another 2 times, 4 in total and I expected it to grow on me given the fact at first listen it didn´t impacted me. But it´s happening just the contrary. With the lyrics we saw a while ago I saw so much potencial but it kinda dissapointed me. She has not to win me or something cos I´m not even a stan. I just say I think she is the best artist among the current superstars including Beyonce (though she still has so much to prove).

For somebody who a) claims to have the best voice in the industry (put her in a group with the Queen Divas (ie Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston (if she had her old voice), Patti Labelle and Aretha and see who is better…..it won’t be her by far: there’s nothing special about it) and b) is the greatest song writer. Sorry, I’ve heard better songs written by artists than this song: she is NOT the greatest song writer by far cause “Ra Ra Ra” doesn’t quite cut it as making you the best. What makes you the best is writing a song which not only touches your soul, but is full of meaning. Granted, if this song had been a ballad, it would have been quite a different story because the full message would have come through and it would have full meaning.
This will NEVER be an anthem for anyone and I’ll tell you why: because it’s so directional. It’s aimed towards specific people (ie the Gay community (FTR, I’ve got nothing against the Gay community, just commenting on what the song talks about)) and the general public won’t be able to latch onto that nor relate to it. The beat is hardly danceable and just sounds plain weird. There are so many songs out there which deal with this subject, that I find it hard to see what makes it stand out. For a song to be an anthem, it needs to stand out and this does not come close at all.
This is a ‘Miss’ Gaga, next time, don’t over-hype a song that much.
And TBH, I would not be that surprised if I hear she has a breakdown. She is clearly is trying too hard to outdo herself and that will ultimately have reprocussions. Remember, you read it here first!

I’ve already stated my opinion regarding the song but now I want to address some things. First of all, Born This Way is not only for the gays. If people paid attention to the lyrics, they would realize that. Born This way is about accepting who you are, whether you are straight, gay, bi, transgendered, skinny, fat, mentally challenged, whatever. It’s about loving who you are no matter what your race or nationality is. Born This Way is about acceptance and not being insecure about “flaws.”
So to say that gays are the only ones who can take something from this song is absolutely ridiculous. People really need to stop with that. It just makes you look close minded.
Part of what makes this song less than ideal is the production. Gaga’s vocals are drowned out with the muddled production. The chorus doesn’t need to be sped up. Born This Way needed to be a rock and roll acoustic type of track. This song isn’t meant to be a dance song. It doesn’t fit and it shows crystal clear in the song which doesn’t even sound like it’s complete.
Although I am disappointed with the song, I appreciate the message behind it because society does need more meaningful songs.
And for the record, Gaga never said she has the best voice in the industry. So people need to get their facts straight.
Okay, so I’m just going to say what I love and hate.
I hate the beat, it’s nothing special. Is this seriously the best production she could get? You can’t fully apreciate the lyrics because they’re so f****** drowned in this awful beat. There’s way too much “sing-talk” & I could do without that damn intro. That DAMN “Don’t be a drag, just be a queen”. Yes it’s creative but damn..IN YOUR FACE. Don’t like the ending. Lastly, I hate that it didn’t live up to the hype.
However, I love her vocals throughout the entire song, the hook is amazing and everyone will be walking around singing it, give it a week. I still love the lyrics, except that they’re so in your face and pretty much specifically for gays. What if you’re not gay? It’s harder to relate. I love the somewhat gospel sound. Am I the only one who could hear that? Love the lines “Whether your broke or evergreen” “Don’t hold yourself in regret, just love yourself and you’re set.” “My momma told me when I was young, we are all superstars” “I’m on the right track baby, I was born to survive” & “Rejoice and love yourself today”

I’d like to know that to..the reason why Britney lived up to her hype more is because they kept it simple & the hype came soley from her name. Therefore, when HIAM came out it got everyone excited. Gaga basically promised the next Thriller and it burned her in the end. Song’s still amazing though

Oh yeah, we all know it’ll be alot more heavy on the instruments. I expect piano still, but a lot of guitar, maybe on the bridge. True, it’s so much better than Born This Way. It’s not single material though. I have HIGH expectations for Judas. She better start to really bring it. She’s set the bar high for herself now she needs to exceed it.

I’ve heard about 1/3 of the songs. Words I Never Said is a shot at the government and the rest of the world’s issues and how Lupe regrets not speaking up. Outta My Head is a love song, not a huge fan of it, but I only heard the live demo so who knows. You’ve heard Show Goes On right? Beautiful Lasers is my favorite, it’s about Lupe’s suicidal thoughts. It’s very inspirational and just a BEAUTIFUL record. Never Forget You’s also one of my favorites. It’s a great soulful record about reminiscing and promising to never forget your past. So far, I love the album. Lupe never dissapoints. Wish there were more than 12 songs though..

I know right. He said it lacked emotion and he rushed through it. The only song he feels connected to is “Fireworks”. That’s why this album is called ‘Take Care’.
The thing with Wayne is, he has the metaphors, the amazing production and the ability to take any risks and work with any artists he wants. Yet, he just makes shallow music and doesn’t have that PASSION for music other artists have. He doesn’t want to prove himself, he doesn’t want to touch hearts, he just wants everyone to know “He’s the s***.”. At least with Drake & Nicki, they love music and want to make an impact on others’ lives. Wayne doesn’t care, well it seems like it. Rebirth was amazing LYRICALLY though. I think he actually had a strong connection with that album; even though the sound was awful.

So i get it Lady Gaga doing new inventions with musically and it a ok song lyrically but to make a top of the chart billboard negative. I dont see this as a big hit ,J.lo’s “On the floor” and her comeback is all over media radio and news headlines vs this mess. J.lo has not been out for years more like working on a record for 3 years and she back with force. Britney had her time her single ok but really 2008 and 2009 was her time and it time for her to sit down and let J.lo take over.

I don’t know why people are talking about other artists here ?,especially those, Britney stans, if you hate the song, don’t come here, HIAM was an okay song, her stans made a big following against Gaga to make it huge, which is childishness because they think we hate her.
As for J-Lo fans, I’m so happy for the reactions about her song, and the song has no add yet, it’s the most successful song on airplay and worldwide charts without adds. But as a I said for Brit stans, this is about Gaga.
I don’t have any idea about who started it first, I just see some people loving this song next to the new J-Lo, Britney and Rihanna which is positive, so why not saying positive things like this ?
All these artists are legends by giving their pure hits and also inspirations from old hits which is not a negative thing, they have peaks and pits and talents in different ways, so we should keep this thread nice not a mess.
By the way, when someone likes a song in the same way like Born This Way, and post something positive about them, then they will surely find find haters come and post crap and lies about one of the artists you mentioned to make you talk positively about her, then some stans will come and think you hate their idol against another artist, which is not a positive thing for them, so be positive in your way of talking, haters will only like to make troubles.

This song is so genric it’s embarrassing. It sounds like all the songs I’ve ever heard in my life mixed into one hot mess. The worst part about the whole song is her mannish voice. Was she trying to sound like a transvestite?
