Ashanti Announces Birth Of ‘Written Entertainment’

Published: Thursday 15th Dec 2011 by David

At this year’s BET Awards, That Grape Juice caught up with ‘Good Good’ vocalist Ashanti  on the red carpert where exclusively revealed that her next LP is to be released independently.

Now, she has gone on step further, by announcing that the LP is to be released by her own company,’Written Entertainment‘.

Full story below…

She explains:

I’m so excited to have my own record label, Written Entertainment. With eOne as my distributor, I feel that their innovative and ambitious approach to the music industry, really gives my label a worldwide presence.

They have the top radio people in the business and are hungry to win!The more I learned the business the more I knew this is what I wanted. Ownership is so important. As a business woman this was a great move for me!

Congratulations!

Let’s just hope that this new label has the resources Ashanti will need to turn this new album into the success so many of us are hoping it becomes.

i actually have nothing shady to say. although ive never really been a fan of ashantis music i applaud her for starting her own label. that way when her album flops she will at least have less people to pay and be able to make some profit off it.

great she is coming for blood

Eh. When artists go the independent route or call themselves starting their own label, it’s usually the last train to Hasbeenville. If she was gonna go the indie route, then she needs a huge label like Interscope or Def Jam to market and distribute her. Not to sound pessimistic, but this set up is too low budget to produce any kind of a REAL comeback for her. Shame.

oh well…. her 4th album flopped, in 2008 her 5th album declaration flopped, this album will too. Shame…. Indie route, she’s not going to get big gigs. Mariah, Janet will slay 2012. Ashanti has not a great performer. she’s boring. I like her but this song will not chart.

?? Ashanti never really had it after her 2nd album she fell off. People forgot about her in 2004 basically. You had monica album, destiny child, ciara. Ashanti can’t grab a crowd that’s why people forgot about her. Banging songs But her voice…….nails on a chalk board… She should write for artists and focus on signing artists. Be the boss of the label because child……she can’t sing….

no one is hating….just stating opinions…..we don’t have to kiss artists ass! she didn’t go anywhere…. her album was just released three years ago. If you was fan, you would know that!!!!

Some of you are funny. Ashanti will do gre at with her album. Either way independently. She will make more money than your favs with her writing alone. 🙂

Reading some of these comments could really tell who’s a hater and who’s a Fan.. I personally love the move she making come on now how many Main artist can say they have their own label?? U gotta have money and creativity for that.. But I’m happy she back I hope she stay consistent with her music because that all u gotta do to be hot now in days is stay consistent and take no breaks u see how *cough cough* Rihanna came up.. Plus y’all calling her a flop last time I check Declaration was a flop but sold over 200k its first week? Hmm not so much a flop to me…

I am happy for her. Going independent is a smart move. I just wish she had a distribution with another company besides eOne. I expect that her album will be very hard to purchase outside of itunes and amazon. Still she will likely see a good size financial check come in if her album can sell 100K or more units. People forget that Ashanti has always been a good writer and mediocre singer so concerts are not really her strongsuit. Album sales are really how she will make money and hopefully she will even get a small endorsement deal of some kind because she has always been a beautiful chick.

This is depressing news. She’s not going to be able to get major promotion — and therefore competitively compete — going the independent route. There isn’t one song in the top 40 that isn’t released by one of the majors. Ashanti is not THAT kind of a singer; she needs a major label backing her. Damn. And here I was hoping that she would have a major comeback next year.

Oh well, maybe Brandy will get lucky.

Independent? Hmmmm could be good, wish she would get signed but in the long run this could be massive!
