In a thinly veiled effort to break Michael Jackson‘s single’s record, Katy Perry has unveiled an acoustic version of current single ‘The One That Got Away’.
Perry’s team have made no secret of their desire for the singer and her album ‘Teenage Dream’ to unseat he King of Pop as the artist with the most #1 singles from one album. As such, they’ve officially released to iTunes a stripped back take on ‘The One’ – which up until now had peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

From the cover, to the timing (see: divorce), this reeks of contrived desperation. Not that we can fault Ms. Perry or her team, who are ultimately doing their job - and a brilliant one at that. Almost certainly nothing to do with MJ personally, they simply know they’ve hit a stroke of luck which will be almost impossible to replicate. So why not strike while the iron’s hot? The teams of many an artist could and should take note.

even if she breaks the record, can her music leave up to mj’s. NO! i CANNOT EVEN REMEMBER which of her songs went to number 1. She is just too desperate. I swear these pop stars with little talent need to go away. i need them to win me over by getting rid of the colors, the autotune, the backtracks, the high productions in order words all the gimmick and showcase what they can do. i don’t hate any artist out. i don’t hate katy but she is not a great artsit at all.

I don’t have a problem with this. An acoustic version of the song with Katy and singing and playing is more wholesome to me than a quickie remix. This is actually quite nice. Maybe she should’ve done this to acoustic version to begin with if she was going to release more than one version of the song, instead of getting a rapper on board for a cheap remix.

are you kidding me? always someone trying to break michael jackson in some way but the reality no one can match his CLASS and QUALITY because he didnt do the music simply for the greed of money (unlike everyone else in todays music industry) he did it cos he had PASSION and love for the music.
In fact, take away the ridiculous amounts of sexual innuendo, the tons of make up and fake hair, and the tuning of the voice and all you really get is talentless, do-anyhing-for-money, standard people who have no self respect and are willing to tell their fans (including young kids) that its actually “cool” to be that way.
To be like Michael you gotta have heart, you have to MEAN what you say, and do it for the LOVE not the MONEY. To top it off he probably helped and inspired more people in the world than all the so called “stars” of the music industry today put together. Beat that.

Even if she does break this record, I believe it is much easier today to do this then back in the eighties when there was mo internet, or itunes. MJ did this without trying. It just happened fair and square. Regardless what she does, she will never be number one in peoples eyes.

How can she break a record if she constantly remixing her songs??? Surly remixed songs should not be counted as they are not in the album version. And how can she be compared to MJ if he never remixed his songs to get to number one?? Billboard needs to get their act together and make new rules to disqualify remixes songs.

Music is in a different time and completley different era of how it is sold, promoted, and looked at in general. I say way to go Katy, and continue to push this single to #1. It is a great song lyrically, and prob one of the most deep singles released by her thus far.
That aside, if “TOTGA” hits number 1 or not, she has released a GREAT POP ALBUM, and has had massive success since the albums first single “California Gurls” was released in like May of 2010. NOT to mention, she still has songs that have single potential to be released from this album. “TOTGA” peaked at #3 thus far. How many artists in this day and age can release six singles from an album and have them all hit the Top 5 of the most coveted chart (Hot 100)???
So regardless if #3 is “TOTGA” ‘s peak, just think she could still release songs like “Hummingbird Heartbeat,” “Peacock” (if the label is darign enough), or even “Not Like The Movies,” and oen of those could hit #1. So it is NOT a done deal if “TOTGA” doesn’t hit #1, and if they call it quits, still an impressive Pop album with impressive records, and charting feats! [Sorry for typos]

Teenage Dream, Fireworks and The One That Get Away are some of the Best POP songs this days…. There’s a depth in the Lyrics on a catchy Beat…
I also Like California Girls, E.T, Last Friday (TGIF) are very catchy and Fun…
To sum it up… I had a great pop album in my hands…
We should not compare sales of Perry, Gaga, Rihanna, Christina, Britney or Beyonce to the sales of MJ, Madonna, Mariah.. Cause we all know there is such thing as CHANGES and TRENDS…

I dont care what Katy Perry does with her Music., Or Laday Gaga or others. I just Hate that Music Media keeps making these rediculous statements about breaking an Artists records.. New Artists cant compare in Sales to Musicians before Itunes. It should just be in a different category all together. Set the online sale record, Set the store Sales record .. Let THAT be the real goal and story.. because the 2 are different animals.. Until someone actually Sales as many records/CD’s/VH’s etc in a store as Michael Jackson, Madonna, The Beatles, Elvis, Elton John, Mariah Carey The Carpenters … ETC…or others.. Then THAT record stands in my opinion, and it should in every music fan as well.

I agree with Sam, MJ didn’t have any remixes until 08 all 6 singles went to number one, people actually went to store and bought it. Quality over quantity . If you take away the Auto tune, and the gimmicks, she can not sing. She barley hits any notes maybe one or two and that’s if she practice. I have heard her sing live. Not impressed at all. Michael’s voice goes to about 8 or 9 octaves and that’s WITHOUT auto tune. Now a days “pop” is no talent people who got lucky to be famous.
