Following her controversial cover of The Throne‘s ‘N”gga’s In Paris‘ today, Katy Perry‘s mouth has landed her in more hot water.
For, in what can only force us to wonder just who she and Rihanna ‘chit chat’ about behind closed doors, the ‘Teenage Dreamer‘ has weighed in on Beyonce’s 2007 duet with Shakira, ‘Beautiful Liar‘.
Her remarks below…
Dishing on her upcoming cut with fellow the ‘Fading‘ singer, she said:
I want it to be like that Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin song Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves, not Beautiful Liar. But I definitely want to do something that is so iconic.
Rihanna’s kind of busy too. We’re both busy but we planted the seed two years ago. How disappointed would you be if that song came out and it’s no good? Sometimes you have to wait for greatness.

I think Katy’s comment reflects poor judgement, but I know for a fact that she’s a big Beyoncé fan so I don’t think she really meant to shade her. That being said; there is absolutely no way in hell anything that includes Rihanna & Katy Perry will be iconic….on a basic level I’d hope that one of the qualifications for a song being iconic is for the singers to be able to…sing…which automatically disqualifies this collaboration.

I think she makes a valid point. Let’s be real, when you think of Beyonce and all she has done in her career, Beautiful Liar isn’t even in the top ten. When you look at all her collaborations, Beautiful Liar still isn’t even in the top ten.
She’s not saying Beautiful Liar was shit, she’s saying Beautiful Liar was just another single, another song. It wasn’t iconic. It’s not a song that people will remember or be talking about years from now.
And people need to be realistic. So what Katy and Rihanna don’t have powerful voices. They can still hold a note, which is much better than most of the population AND both artists have etched their names in music history books for various achievements.

I think people are kind of overlooking what she really said. I don’t think she intentionally dissed the song. She just said it wasn’t really iconic which in all honesty, it really wasn’t. I liked the song for what it was but it didn’t really have much of an impact like people thought it would. I would like to see Katy Perry and Rihanna ‘attempt’ to make an iconic song though. I just can’t sense that it would be any good. Those two just make songs for the moment. They sound good RIGHT NOW but in years from now we’ll play their music and say, “what were we thinking!!??”

Most of the iconic duets consists of two artist who are realitively the same and relevant at the time. ex. whitney and mariah. brandy and monica. aerosmith and run dmc. madonna and brit…..i feel like beyonces duets werent necessarily iconic because she can easily outsing Gaga and Shakira and the songs werent fitting for both artists. I honestly think if Beyonce put GaGa on the song Radio instead of Videophone that woulda been a smash!! I don’t think it was her intention to diss Beyoncé, but Katy & Rihanna duet won’t be iconic either, it’s gonna be another generic electro pop song that is going to top the charts. They won’t be able to sing it live, or make a decent performance! Like Rihanna did with Britney at the Billboard awards (and then Beyoncé slayed them, big time).

I’m more insulted that Katy would even think her and Rihanna would make a song on the same level as Aretha and Annie’s. Somebody is thinking a bit much of themselves. That’s REALLY what angered a lot of posters online, not really so much Bey/Shakira. I’m sorry, Aretha and Annie Lennox never had to use autotune when they did Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves. Grammys aren’t a factor when it comes to being iconic. For instance Diana Ross has none solo or group-wise & she’s an icon. Mariah, Madonna, Celine, & even THE VOICE Whitney Houston & the ULTIMATE ICON Michael Jackson have less Grammys than Beyonce & thay are all way above Beyonce. & again I say where was the diss?
