The Predictions Are In: Monica’s ‘New Life’ Set To Sell…

Published: Wednesday 11th Apr 2012 by Sam

Easily one of the most anticipated R&B releases this year, Monica‘s ‘New Life’ no doubt has many itching to see how well it does straight out of the gate.

And while a definitive answer will be ushered in with next week’s official Billboard 200 chart, its first day figures-as is usual-provide a safe estimate.

Find out what Ms. Brown is on-course to open with after the jump…

According to Hits Daily Double, ‘Life’ is slated to premiere within the top 10 with sales of 55,000-65,000 – a noticeable dip from the debut of her last outing, ‘Still Standing’. Indeed, many will remember the ‘Everything To Me’ led set shifted 184,000 on its first week.

Needless to say, the figures aren’t at all the best. That said, longevity is key; and with 17 years under her belt, staying around and relevant is something Mo’ seems versed in. Here’s hoping aspects of the project are salvaged with solid single releases (‘Daddy’s Good Girl’, anyone?) and touring.

Thereafter, it’d be great to see Monica re-engage with the strand of “quality” radio-R&B she so skillfully dabbled with on ‘Still Standing’; an LP – which when compared to this new release – offered up something for everyone, instead of the Urban Adult Contemporary market this seemed heavily skewed to.

  1. why you mad? April 11, 2012

I previewed this album last night. Its so extremely dull that it was hard to listen to.

  2. Xtina is the Queen April 11, 2012

Monica keeps screaming “New Life” but she’s giving us the same s*** she did on the last album. SMH

  3. why you mad? April 11, 2012

I’m not surprised at these figures because they didnt have a strong lead single.

  4. Styla April 11, 2012

Listened to the album, it was very dull and Boring… such a snooze fest!! Brandy don’t fail me now.

  5. Sheyenne April 11, 2012

I don’t know what happened to Monica. Her debut album was so good. This new album sounds like total filler. The best song on the album is only on the deluxe, “In 3D”. I just find it hard to believe these are best songs she could record. The duet with Brandy sucks. I don’ t know what will revitalize her career. After the last releases, maybe it’s time to call it a day, lol. Shame. She’s got a great voice. Just no material to properly showcase.

  6. JayB832 April 11, 2012

Wowww!! I was and still am Sooo rooting for Mo… Still Standing should have been the turning point for Mo’s career. It pushed 185K first week and could’ve done more but they didn’t ship enough copies to several stores. She needs a stronger team behind her and while I’m a die hard Mo fan, I must admit that the CD has me skipping alot (With Still Standing I was able to put the CD in and ride out). I don’t know I think she has some revamping to do with her team…Sooo disappointed!! I still got love for you though MO!! Also, this whole Brandy rekindle stuff should’ve been left where it was at (In the past). She didn’t have any of that on Still Standing and it still sold. Please don’t say it was b/c of the reality show b/c that ended in December and album didn’t drop until March and she still sold.

  7. why you mad? April 11, 2012

@xtinaisthequeen I completely agree and I was thinking the same thing as I previewed the album last night. I feel as though the title does not match the albums material and I did not hear any vocals that captured my attention like how she did on the last album.

  8. Cockiness April 11, 2012

i cant believe TGJ with this longevity talk….you weren’t sing that tune with Rihanna at all, but now the same the NAVY was saying about LOUD and TTT you now saying about PINK FRIDAY:ROMAN RELOADED and this album SMH

  9. KAT DELUNA FAN April 11, 2012

    Adele is laughing somewhere

  10. TRUTH April 11, 2012

Monica went for a good rnb soul album rather than commercial radio crap. I love it. I see what the lael was trying to do- critics from the academy said Still Standing lackd emotion- she bought it this round. It’s damn good music and showsher growth- all that said, the next should better be more commercial.

  11. gio88 April 11, 2012

wow if Madonna sells 359.000 copies in first week , with no promo but dops 85% is a mess …but if Monica with promo and 2 single and a highly advertised duet with Brandy flops key words are “longevity is the key” and “remain relevant” -_- to me seems DOUBLE STANDARDS!

  12. Cockiness April 11, 2012

    LMAO…..DEATH @KATDELUNAFAN

  13. missdiva April 11, 2012

Monica will be fine… she’s strong and a trooper and will comeback with a venegance…always does!!!!!!!! lesson learned, u move on and be better!!!!

Brandy fans need to chill cause…hmmph!!!! last hit was 2002!!!!!! check yourself…
she up next, dont count you chickens before they hatch!!! thats all imma say…

  14. Alex April 11, 2012

Lawd….I had a feeling it would be low….there was no wow material released as there was with still standing….I like Monica but I have not heard anything this go round that can compare to her last album..until its gone was more solid than IABTM..still stand had some bangers like ETM…..I wish her luck though

  15. Anne April 11, 2012

Not good with all the promo. Not surprised, the singles didn’t do well and Monica does not have a huge fanbase. Almost as bad as Ciara’s last release.

  16. Teyah April 11, 2012

What a FLOP! Relevant? Um when was the last time she had a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100? She faded long time ago! And Brandy’s new album will flop too since theres no hype surrounding it

  17. kisha April 11, 2012

I think it may be time for a new team and management. I love monica too and i bought the album, but i was a little disappointed. we might get one more single and thats it

  18. matt April 11, 2012

The album may not have done well but she’s still the top real r&b artist out now and for the past 15 years

  19. Teyah April 11, 2012

Just wait untl Keri Hilson releases her new album. Its going to FLOP like New Life LOL! Nobody likes her

  20. RoyalKev April 11, 2012

I didn’t like the album at all, but I don’t wish that anyone fail. Monica’s a very grounded, spiritual woman and I like that she’s simple and just wants to live her family life peacefully. I wish her success.

I do expect better material from Brandy. Brandy always comes up with fresh new sounds that are current. I need that B’rocka album. All the girls have their own lane. Monica does more traditional R&B, she loves all the nostaglia and likes that throwback feel to her music. I think there’s always an audience for that.

Aaliyah was the futuristic artists that made music you have to catch up to down the line. I still miss her! It’s great to see Bran & Mo years later staying true to their artistry. #GoodLuck Monica!
    #BringonB’rocka!

  21. WHO MAD? April 11, 2012

This album should be called no life or low life not new life! I’m sorry Mo but you can keep this S***!

  22. powers April 11, 2012

    album sucks

  23. deeman April 11, 2012

Lets be real, nobody is selling in r&b smh r&b is pretty much out for tha moment

  24. kc April 11, 2012

I am not surprised at all. The album and no uptempos at all. I love monica and i preordered it on itunes but when i streamed her album and it was a bunch of slow songs i cancelled. I need some jams and monica wasnt giving it to me. Now im waiting for brandys.

  25. sentfromupabove April 11, 2012

poor monica. i love this album so i think it’s slightly disapointing… i was expecting a little bit more! and for people who have nothing good to say, please don’t say anything, y’all sat and previewed the album on 30 second snippets… i hope this album has some sort of longevity and gets a great 2nd single like CRY or WITHOUT YOU… monica deserves to do well with her beautiful music

  26. Jasmine April 11, 2012

I listened to this album online at Centric’s website and I can defniitely say it was hard to get through and the album was only 10 tracks. It was boring. No uptempo or fast tracks and the slow ballads seemed to be written by untalented songwriters, except for a few songs (Until its Gone and Always). Monica needs to stop acting like some old lady who doe not know what sounds hot, does not know how to write her own material, and can only sing slow songs. She can do a lot better in selecting better material and when the album’s concept “New Life” failed after two flop singles she and her label should have scratched the album and came up with something new.

  27. RP April 11, 2012

Well I just read all the comments so far and, overall, it seems like everyone is pretty disappointed with New Life. It’s hard to really judge an album after hearing it for only a couple of days. I call it “First Listen Syndrome” when I first hear a song and haaaaate it; but when given time, it becomes my favorite song. I tend to experience this with all of Monica’s music and New Life is no different. Every song is growing on me. Sam, I agree, ‘Daddy’s Good Girl’ is awesome. Reminiscent of ‘Motivation’, I could def hear this on the radio. By far, the best song is ‘Without You’ prod by Polow Da Don. And it’s a proven favorite as it’s already #24 on iTunes R&B. ‘Anything’ and ‘Until It’s Gone’ also became absolute favorites of mine after several spins. As for the sales prediction, it’s a sad, but an unfortunate fate. ‘Everything To Me’ smashed R&B/Hip-Hop radio and that’s the key to big numbers, generally speaking. The more people hear a song, the more likely they will be apt to buy the album. It sucks that radio hasn’t really picked up any of the singles so far. I’m holding out for ‘Without You’ single treatment! Let’s goo, Mo.

  28. A April 11, 2012

I dont want to continue any war…

but Brandy sold 75,000 units with Human.

and she will come STRONG this time, we all will see.

  29. soamazing April 11, 2012

I dunno bout others but Im buying deluxe edition. This album is worth it

  30. Ryanlhigh April 11, 2012

The real R&B fans will love this album. Who care if it only sell 55 K. What do you b****** on here sell that make more money. Shady bunch of f$c@ers.

  31. YOOSONDALOOSE April 11, 2012

I personally love the album, but the songs were all sad love songs, though I love it, so I think it will only appeal to some.

Hope her tour and next singles do better, she has been promoting with Brandy a lot this, so I guess could help future sales!

  32. Dunk April 11, 2012

The reason her last album sold well is because she had a reality show that followed her putting the album together so it was a great marketing tool and it was practically the only real R&B album to have a successful record at that time that was not watered down R&B, All Belongs To Me is a brilliant single, just as good as Everything To Me, but without a big tool like a reality TV show behind it, pushing real R&B today is gonna be very difficult indeed, i credit her for still making the music she wants to make regardless radio is not supporting real R&B in the mainstream that’s the reason the current lead single is not as big as it should be.

  33. Bizzyby April 11, 2012

Yes it is all slow music but I love it.. I have always had to listen to Monica’s albums a few times to get it but it’s a great effort. As far as brandy, I believe her numbers will be a little more because she’s getting all this promo now and hers is not out til June. She’s had more time. She just needs to release a single like now. Also don’t let low numbers count any one out. Brandy has never had strong first weeks sales but her albums always had moderate sales each week after their release dates and she has sold millions this way ( with the exception of human). And to the person who said Monica show didn’t help her sale still standing, you must be crazy. Even though it was released a few months after the show ended while it was on she was able to gain fans who would later anticipate her album from watching the show and purchase it later. And ask keyshia cole what happened to her when her show ended.. So did the interest in her music.

  34. Me April 11, 2012

@Cockiness You are so right, these bangwagon b****** aint say nun bout Rihanna sales could be helped during touring, but when Nicki underperformed and Now Monica, they broke asses comes up with solutions, I love Nicki got the album, but real is real

  35. Me April 11, 2012

And Monica…. I dont believe you have not 1 single that could save this album, she should have switched it up and presented some uptemos or club bangers while still doing your traditional style..there is nothing but fillers,….i guess

  36. Raquel April 11, 2012

The album is horrible, we understand Monica is going through a new phase in her life but this is not the Monica I fell in love with. My Monica sung me through the fights, heartaches, man stealing, cheating and fight days of my life. Now I am not happy with the way she reflects in her music, maybe if she was back with Rocko she would have some bangers instead of cliff hangers.

  37. Twhist April 11, 2012

Slow jams are just that…slow jams. Monica sang her face off…the Doves love you Mo….to all of the Doves aka true fans WE DON’T HAVE TO ATTEND EVERY ARGUMENT WE’RE INVITED TOO….if you notice 80% of the post aren’t fans, just spectators and trying to be hateful. Monica’s rooted in Christ…..I’m sure the album will have legs and sale very well in the end. Love you Mo!

  38. Boopi April 11, 2012

Yes there are a lot of slow jamz on this album, but she is staying true to her r&b roots. We need r&b! It is a dying genre. And she never sold out to pop music or dance music. I RESPECT Monica for that. My favorite songs on this album are:
    Until Its Gone
    Cry
    Time to Move On
Catch Me <—-That song right THERE!!!! Wooooo!!! Puts me in a zone!!!

  39. Still Standing April 11, 2012

The Still Standing Era in my opinion ended tooooooooo quickly… There were many other potential singles…. Only two singles from a Great Album as Still Standing is something I dont understand..It is also disappointing.. What happened to the song ONE IN A LIFETIME??????? Still Standing was NOT ridden until the Wheels came off!!! Still Standing is a SOLID, well put together album.. Bryan Michael C** did a VERY GOOD JOB with the album.. I believe the QUALITY of Still Standing is what caused the high sales.. The album was selling out everywhere in the country from the FIRST DAY!! On the first day it sold almost 100k… That alone shows the awesome quality of Still Standing… Still Standing was genius!! Point Blank Period… Still Standing deserved to have more singles released from the album…. Think about it Still STanding went gold in ONLY Three Weeks off of ONLY ONE SINGLE.. Imagine if it had MORE SINGLES!!!

  40. credits April 11, 2012

I agree with the poster above. still standing had so many potential singles, from ‘betcha’ to ‘stay or go’ and even ‘here i am’, that era ended too quickly.

55-60,000 i’m kind of disappointed, i wanted to see her do better, i will buy the album tomorrow, it is a grower and it is growing on me especially ‘take a chance’ and of course the jazmine sullivan written song, ‘cry’ did you here the low note she hits in the first verse? Overall it is too much rico love, there was no jermaine dupri and not enough missy involved in this album.

Guess the doves and stars didn’t come together on this…

  41. ohyeah April 11, 2012

RCA sucks soo BAD!!!! This Label destroys careers Yall!!!! Look at Avril Lavigne, RCA killed Britney’s last era early, RCA doesn’t promote, Usher ain’t got a hit pop single on Top 40 in the US, RCA messes up newer artist by putting out BAD Lead singles, RCA SUCKS!!!!!! Monica leave now, go to Universal Motown or Neyo’s label…the cross-promotion with Brandy did not work…RCA ain’t gonna release Brandy’s album anyway…LEAVE NOW GIRL…RCA has only put money into Kelly Clarkson….Leave Now!!!…Chris Brown has like no promo from RCA….Leave Now!!!!

  42. Jessica April 11, 2012

Honestly, I really like this album, she didn’t do the b******* that the artist are doing now- EURO-POP!!! People who are saying it’s boring, if she went to that route, everyone will be complaining about her not doing R&B right?? I’m sorry, I rather listen to real R&B music than being in the now and following the dumb Euro-pop foolishness. Honestly I don’t care about her sales, long the album has substance and meaning, I’m all for it!!

  43. MrIncredible April 11, 2012

I’m a huge Monica fan, but the album sucked so it deserved to flop. Monica is an amazing talent, but she messed up big time with this album. There’s good R&B and then there’s just forgettable boring tracks. This album is the latter, with the exception of her song, Without You.

  44. Twhist April 11, 2012

Loved “New Life” …keep doing you Monica!

  45. Paulo April 11, 2012

“Almost as bad as Ciara’s last release.” LOL CHILD, PLEASE! let’s not go there

well the numbers are low for an artist of her stature but honestly, considering how bad promo has been and the fact she has no song sitting comfy at any chart right now, I was scared it could be worse.

but hey, she survived The Makings of Me, she’ll be fine.

but none of this would’ve happened if they kept releasing singles from Still Standing before moving on so quickly to this project.

  46. Krona April 11, 2012

Purchased New Life yesterday and I won’t lie I have to be honest I was expecting a lot more from Monica. However in every song on New Life Monica sung her heart out. Her vocal growth is noteworthy. My fav songs so far are Daddy’s Good Girl and Biggest Mistake she killed those songs. All in all I’m a big Monica fan I have all of her CD’s and I am a little disappointed everyone thinks Rico Love is the it person right now but all his songs sound the same and he just didn’t do it for Mo. I wish Monica the best though. Praying really really praying that Brandy brings it on 2/11 she just has too cause the haters are watching waiting to see her fail. Love Brandy and Monica support and purchase both of their music I wish both ladies the best!

  47. Adrian April 11, 2012

Everyone cries out for artists to “return to good music” and make “meaningful” songs and the minute they do then people bash them. We are never satisfied. Monica’s New Life album is an excellent R&B album perfect for listening to ANY time of the day. Whether it’s a midnight drive or a sunny Sunday afternoon this album hits home. Mo made some great music for the soul. She is not Waka Flocka or Nicki with all this dance garbage. There is a time for every type of music and Monica did her job and made some great music. What was everyone expecting based on the singles? I could see if she had released up-tempo bangers sprinkled with auto tune and guest rappers, but Mo has been singing her ass off in promo appearances with heartfelt ballads. Everyone needs to support her in this endeavor, because the minute our favorites are gone we are wishing we could get them back. Appreciate her hard work while she is still in the business doing her thing.

  48. BrealK April 11, 2012

New Life is a great CD. Too bad people don’t appreciate talent. The Brandy duet is the only so-so song. The rest are pure fire.

  49. LAX April 11, 2012

WOW sales for artist are getting worst

  50. Jasmine April 11, 2012

I agree that Still Standing sold more not just because of the reality show but because the album was a great album. I listen to every song on that album when I play it and love all of the songs and Monica’s vocals really shine on that album. Lots of potential singles on Still Standing. On New Life I hear filler r&b music on most of the songs which is not good.

  51. Gr3g April 12, 2012

Not surprised by the numbers given the obvious. Sucks though since she is very likeable and her voice is hella nice. Artists like her you want to see be successful. I don’t get why Until It’s Gone didn’t do better as I think it’s the best song on the album. Maybe that should have been the first sign for her team to rethink things. *shrug* If they do release another single then it should be Without You.

  52. STR8FACTS April 12, 2012

This isn’t a surprise to me at all. She released two singles before IABTM which both flopped. Until It’s Gone is honestly one of the best IF NOT the best song on the album and she didn’t even promote that song the way she’s promoting IABTM with brandy. Monica honey .. NOBODY is here for IABTM, the song is horrible, lackluster, and just un-interesting all together. I find it funny how she continues to promote this song and it’s going NOWHERE.

Secondly, the album is filler altogether. Everyone is saying R&B doesn’t sell, honey her last album sold, you can’t say her last album wasn’t R&B. It was a great album from start to finish with great production and lyrics, it just wasn’t handled correctly because it could’ve probably hit the 1 million mark if they released a couple more singles. This album I can tell from listening to it can’t really be saved. Don’t get me wrong Daddy’s Good Girl, Amazing, Without You, & Until it’s Gone are all good songs, but they’re are all forgettable which is the problem. I listened to the album a lot last week and this week I haven’t played it once because I don’t care to hear any of the songs again.

Third, why is everyone jumping on the Rico Love bandwagon? Like child please, don’t get me wrong he is a great producer, but he cannot make hits for every artist. Just like Tricky and the Dream work great for Beyonce and Rihanna but caused Ciara and Mariah Carey to flop. Like the NERVE of Brandy and Mo’ to be satisfied with IABTM (prod. by Rico Love), that song is horrible and some of the most forgetful songs on this album are produced by him! Monica, you know what works for you! Jermaine and Brian Michael Coxx! Polow The Don! s*** even bring Dallas Austin back! girl bye with this album I just can’t!

Fourth, all of you saying oh she flopped before if she flops again it’s no big deal, honey this is not 1994, you can’t be flip flopping all over the charts and expect some triumphant return, especially when your putting out music like this! Monica have several seats for dropping the ball like this. This album gets like a 1 out of 5, a 2 if you wan’t to be generous. R&B isn’t dead, our R&B artists are just playing in the studio! Ya’ll give us one good album and then release some str8 bull!

I don’t understand what the point in pushing this album back was for if ya’ll were still releasing trash. Just my opinion.

  53. Common Sense April 12, 2012

She doesn’t need to do dance music. But she shouldn’t have to sing this backwards unmelodic psuedo “soul” crap either.

How about a decent R&B song with a real melody? (I.E. The Boy Is Mine album)

  54. latisha April 12, 2012

You can stay true to R&B with ought sounding redundant.

Monica’s Music as of late has been very boring, I am sorry. She is not creative or involved in any of her music and it shows. I love her voice but as an Artist she lacks a lot. I did not expect this, I mean that’s less than Brandy’s Human.

She needs to take a break and reinvent her sound, live and come back in 3 or 4 years. This was just too soon

  55. latisha April 12, 2012

    MISSDIVA

Brandy’s last hit was 2008 Right here departed, a song that actually cracked the top 30 on billboards hot 100.. (the biggest single chart) her last hit was not 2002. In fact Brandy’s last two , 1st singles Talk about our love and Right here departed all charted higher then Monica’s everything to me, love all over me, Anything to find you, until it’s gone.. So please.

Brandy doesnt aim for just the R&B charts, so stop trying to bring Brandy up to make 55k-65k look OKAY.

  56. SENTFROMUPABOVE April 12, 2012

everyone who cares or is a fan of Monica, please get on her case on twitter and tell her to release WITHOUT YOU as the next single… WITHOUT YOU could do a lil damage on the RNB chart hopefully, and perhaps save this album!!!!!!

  57. Tosha April 12, 2012

    I brought the album…Its classic Monica! Point.Blank.Period! I love it! 😉

  58. RIHANNANAVY CAPTAIN April 12, 2012

    I was expecting 25,000…so that’s good news. #noshade

  59. Twhist April 12, 2012

Those under 30 won’t be pleased…they’re still on the euro pop and dance music….everybody doesn’t shake their asses. I’m a laid back chill dude and love it. That heffa sang her face off on all those songs. Love Monica!

  60. Cutiepie April 12, 2012

Monica really got ya’ll asses in them feelings early regardless of what she sells it was a good solid R N B ALBUM BOTTOMLINE DEAL

  61. True April 12, 2012

I was really rooting for Monica this go around. Still Standing was a superb album so I expected SO much more… Sadly enough, you have to purchase the deluxe version to get any REAL satisfaction from the album. It’s just like someone said previously, most of the songs are forgetable.

  62. antertain April 12, 2012

Oooooh i hate the predictions. Lets remember that when Still Standing came out (yes a superior album) it had really low predictions also and went on to shift 184,000 copies in the first week, which surprised many.

I really think it’ll pass 100,000 but singles have to be carefully put of this time.
Fan Favourites have to be considered and more than two videos should be out after album release.
There are a couple obvious single options funnily enough both produced by Rico Love (Take A Chance, Daddys Good Girl) but also there’re some deep and strongly vocalised songs that would be very relatable to audiences (Time To Move On, Big Mistake)

I’m a huge Monica fan and feel J Records dropped the ball with the length between singles and the fact only two properly came out from a album that had quiet a few single options (not just R&B)

RCA please learn from that error and bring the QUALITY out.

    Sidenote:
I want the same with the Brandy album. Choose the RIGHT singles to support the album because HUMAN was quality lyrically and vocally but not the right singles and needed just a touch more songs with better tempo to them overall.

  63. SHAROOD April 12, 2012

YOU SO CALLED MONICA FANS ARE SO BIAS, THE RESULTS OF THE NUMBERS AREN’T EVEN ACCURATE, BUT ANYWAY, IM A TRUE FAN AND PERSONALLY THINK THE ALBUM IS DOPE. IT WILL DO WELL.

  64. Still Standing April 12, 2012

@Antertain if I can remember correctly, the sales predictions for Still Standikng was 180k – 200k…What are yu talkin bout?? Still Standing’s sales predictions were not low…..

  65. STILL STANDING April 12, 2012

@Antertain Still Standing sold almost 100k on the first day so there is no way the sales predictions could of been low…

  66. antertain April 12, 2012

    @Still Standing

If you check back the label J Records didn’t actually ship out enough albums as they predicted less sales and then the first day sale exceeded expectations and a lot of shops were sold out so the fans where tweeting Monica about it so the label had to ship more copies.
J Records wasn’t on point with that to start with.

    http://sandrarose.com/2010/03/monicas-fans-accuse-j-records-of-sabotage/

Not heard how 1st day sales have been this time around so we’ll just have to see

  67. monicafan April 12, 2012

Just for the records these are predictions and not facts. Next week we will see how many she sale. If you are under 30 you might not like this album because it more mature. I love the album from start to finish. I feel she didn’t need to do a song with Brandy and I wish people would stop comparing them. If everyone sounded the same than you wouldn’t need different artist. There’s room for all of these ladies….No one album should sound like the last. I loved Still Standing and all her other albums but I don’t want them to sound the same. If it did yall would have something to say about that too. People don’t want good music People support foolishness, s**, and not real. NewLife in heavy rotation…..

@Antertain Ok i think yu meant the sales prediction of the record label before the album was released..ok now i understand yur poiint of view..i thought yu meant the sales predictions gathered from the tracking of how many albums were actually being sold at a time after the album was released..

grown folks music. at some point in your life you hve to grow up,in every aspect of your life. Monica has lived hard, loved hard and understands life as presented to her, therfore she is able to convey her growth through her song choice. Both her and Brandy have matured and living out their blessed lives, especially when record companies are still willing to spend money on your talents, everybody aint able. So for the true fans of R&B go get your CD’s for Monica & Brandy.

  71. 4everb April 14, 2012

Monica does not have a solid single on this album
still standing had at least 5 that could have been released
and also her promotion for this album was last minute to me and the quality and sound of her music does not fit for the time right now
personally i loved the album but its not commercial
now Brandy on the other hand is really doing alot of promotion
O magizine article, Billboard, Ebony etc Articles focusing on her album
Behind the Music, The Game, Drop Dead Diva etc
and this new song with chris brown should put her back on the map musically because its up-tempo and a club song and thats what people wanna hear now

  72. Twhist April 14, 2012

@ 4EVERB dont try it honey! New Life has serveral singel worthy songs. Brandy is thanking Monica for the promo of It all belongs to me whether number 1 or not. Monica’s album for those matrure enough for all. Monica has done some of the same promo Brandy did with some. Monica will NEVER jump on trends…the time of that are over. Brandy put it best herself on 106&Park during Mo’s promos saying “she hadnt done a video in 6 years and was too excited to tag along” so Brandys the one who needs this more than anyone, so im sure she’ll be jumping on the trendy band wagon..cause GOD knows she needs a return to the charts worse than Ciara. Dont get me wrong i love me some Bran, but folks should stop trying to put them against one another…..in the end Monica’s last number one was 2010 not 2004

The New Life album has a different sensibility from Still Standing. Still Standing was grounded in empowerment and best represented what Mo can deliver: real sanging, in your face attitude, and honesty along with those R&B radio smashers. Overall, Still Standing was innovative and fresh and with amazing material and her vocals took precedence over production. New Life has grown on me and I love it. It is very production savvy with Mo’s vocals taking a back step to the production at times.I do prefer the Monica that puts out songs that are on still Standing, but recognizes that she is stretching herself as an artist and also doing some real legendary R&B material with this album. She took a big chance and I think the album speaks volumes to alot of great things to come from Monica. New Life is a beautiful album about love and with some amazing powerful vocals both emotive and restrained. The next two strong singles that I feel are radio bangers are without you and 3d. Monica has a huge future ahead of her with this new direction that she can mix in with previous releases and it stretches so much longevity for her career. Her portfolio will be vast. New Life is a album that HAS to grow on you and after the first few listens you will clearly hear the greatness in all the songs and the album itself.

WelL all I know is she has an album out>>she is doing her thang!!!!We know how the industry is so it is what it is!!! BRandy since ppl bringing her up!!! BRandy is ready she aint ask to tag alone!!!!BRandy was already working before this song! And to be honest the song needed her on it! Brandy’s album wil sale look @ her these days on the promo tiP BRandy makes you wanna watch the performances they do, because she be so beautiful and sounds so GREAT!!!!!!

  75. GURLLL April 16, 2012

    @TWHIST

Brandy can get promo off her name alone honey, Brandy may have not done a video in 4 YEARS (she exaggerated) but thats because she didnt have any music out DUH? she needs monica for what? Monica was flopping on the charts with two songs before Brandy even came, Did dhe get to go on GMA before Brandy? No.. LENO? NO….. i mean lets not….

Monica isn’t a household name Like Brandy so I think if anything Monica Needed Brandy before the duet her album was getting NO KIND OF PRESS.

Brandy has been seen on TV since Dancing with the stars, Followed by A family business followed by 90210, followed by Drop dead Diva followed by The Game so.. again Lets not.. she was already out in the public eye before this Duet

and I can assure you Brandy will not come with no boring, sad sleep album Like Monica… Sorry Boo Ms Norwood knows how to lay it down. or shout I say PUT IT DOWN.

    Boom

  76. Amazement April 17, 2012

Who gives a f*** about Brandy! Lol this is about Monica, and so what this album first week sales are going to be low, Monica knows how to come back stronger. Like still standing She came back really hard with the singles. Brandy…….2002 last hit, hopefully this single put it down is gonna be a hit for her.

  77. Bran Star April 17, 2012

    @Amazement

Clearly YOU give a f*** about Brandy because you brought her up just like others did. You all just need to accept the fact that monica’s album flopped. Y’all been talking all this s*** for the past 2 years with your Still Standing wigs on. Now you get a taste of your own medicine! BTW, Brandy’s Human in 08 had something monica’s new album doesn’t. A bigger hit, monica hasn’t had one since 03. Deal with the truth!

  78. Twhist April 17, 2012

@ GURLLL you must be under 30 lol and if you’re not shame on you! You’ll learn once you get wiser….you don’t attend every arguement you’re invited to. Have a better day

  79. ThatRealTalk April 17, 2012

This NewLife album , I love it. But I did expect more. She need to branch out to New producers. And some old friends like dallas Austin. And like pharell or someone , I want her to work with ppl like beyonce. Or mariah . Now that would bring up fuss. But this album is hopefully just a red herring for what she gone do next. Which I hope she leace the label. And get more involved with her music …. Monica voice too good for her not to do what she wants. Instead of what she’s giving. I got hope in my girl. She gone kick ass on the next album. Mock my words. And btw
She sounds Amazing on her intro with her runs. And in time to move on.
