Talk that Talk is over 900,000 in the US and 4 took almost a year to go platinum too, so don’t.
Also, you said Beyonce released 4 and did not expect no hits, but what do you call Run the World? That was bonified R&B/Pop/generic song, that she gave epic performances of and it flopped. Sorry. Don’t try to act like every song off of 4 was not pop.
The thing that has been instrumental to Beyonce’s success is her amazing performance ability and her father. Her father pimped/helped her career in leaps and bounds. He used the other girls in Destiny’s Child only to promote Beyonce. That was the epitome of shady. Only after her popularity with DC did she go solo with huge financial backing/endorsements that were not given to Kelly and Michelle because, well, he is not their dad. It’s no coincidence that with 4, Beyonce severs ties with him and magically there are no hits, no Grammies etc.
What makes Rihanna’s success more special and exciting than Beyonce is because she is literally a girl plucked from an island with no music training or pimp/father like Matthew Knowles, but is just a natural born star and has achieved an enormous amount of success. Also, Battleship is not a flop for Rihanna. It’s not her fault the movie studios did not budget the promotion correctly in terms of revenue. The film still grossed over 300 mill, that’s sales of people who came out to see the film and guess what, Rihanna got paid. That’s a flop for the film company, not the actors. They did their job, promoted and the film made millions. I’m sure they will recoup some of that with the dvd release next month and video game/merchandise.

Yaasss Katherine! Drag that HIVmember. Eminem was the biggest selling artist of the last decade not Beyonce. Beyonce does not even have a diamond selling album in the US like Mariah, Whitney, TLC, Britney, Christina, Eminem,etc. Britney was the biggest selling female artist of the last decade, I guess they threw in Destiny’s Child sales to give her that award. Oh, well, it does not matter because without her father her album sales are moderately good and her songs are not hot anymore. It all comes down to the music. Beyonce may be a better singer and performer than Rihanna, but Rihanna has better songs and better taste and an ear for good music and the fact that she does not have all of Beyonce’s training and skills makes it all the more unique. When is the last time you heard a Beyonce song on the radio or in the club?

I can’t remember when Rihanna and I first met, but I think it was near a dance floor and one of her tracks was playing.
The thing I remember was her being a normal person, not what you’d expect of a young woman about to take over the world.
She’s one of the coolest, hottest, most talented, most liked, most listened to, most followed, most impressive artists at work today, but she does it in her own stride. She works hard, very hard. She gives to her fans, friends and foundation not just herself but her energy and spirit.
Rihanna, 24, goes out of her way to support the people she believes in. She is one of the few people I know in that world of fame and celebrity who aren’t all about themselves.
She’ll give a real part of herself to an ordinary person she may meet, and that’s rare.
This is the beginning for Rihanna — she has so much more to do and to give. She is just getting going, so watch out. She’s the Barbados ambassador for youth and culture, and she’s coming to a town near you.
