Sassy, might be one word to describe Rap upstart Azealia Banks, rising to mainstream notoriety with the potty mouthed smash ‘212‘ earlier this year.
Renown for her ‘outspoken’ approach to her craft and social media, this month saw the star grace ‘Dazed & Confused’ with a controversial spread.
Controversial, not by way of its suggestive cover, but via comments made by Ms. Banks on her troubled childhood.

She explained:
‘We grew up in the hood, but we had some money. But I moved out when I was 14 to go live with my older sister, because my mom just had, well… issues.’
After my dad died, my mom became really abusive – physically and verbally. Like she would hit me and my sisters with baseball bats, bang our heads up against walls, and she would always tell me I was ugly. I remember once she threw out all the food in the fridge, just so we wouldn’t have anything to eat.
It was like growing up a feral child, being raised by this person who was always yelling and screaming, hitting you and dragging you around and ****.
Granted, she never had any drug or drinking problems – her house was clean, her hair was always done, and we had stuff – but she still ****ed me up real bad.’
Then on her sexual history, she disclosed:
‘Growing up I was so curious about boys. I just loved them.
I’d always get my recesses taken away for letting boys touch my butt in the lunch line I got in trouble for fooling around in school a lot.
I just wanted to be touched, ya know?
I just wanted to have sex.
My mom was always working so there was never anyone around to tell me no.’
For what it’s worth, we think Azealia’s beautiful.

That’s a shame and it happens to so many. so many black families go through abuse and neglect because they don’t want to get the professional help needed to work through their problems. She sounds like another lost child who’s Mom needed to take out her pain on someone.
Smh, not sure how I feel about the sex comment. It sounds like what I get from her persona now. She just wants the attention good or bad she’ll take any she can get. I just hope some dude doesn’t emerge to spill all the details of their sex life, I hate when that shit happens.
I’m still not 100 with her but I do hope she has some commercial success with her music and can pull back with her mouth a little.

Who made you the spoke person for other black families? Dysfuntion runs rapid in all RACES so with that said many families go through abuse and neglect. Pink grew up in a dysfunctional house-hold but i bet you wouldn’t fix your lips to say that it happens to so many white families because they don’t want to get the professional help needed to work through their problems. Because as we all know and can see whites are thought of as individuals and are judged on the basis of individuality. A black girl tells a story of abuse and the generalizations start as usual.

Some of you all are so wrong and I hope you all don’t ever have kids. Our childhood affects each and every one of us. If we want to believe it or not, that’s up to us. I can now see why she had the attitude that she has. She’s ISN’T ugly and is very talented. When someone is constantly being told something over and over, they start to believe it themselves and it’s takes awhile to get over it. I’m glad she didn’t let her mother’s negative ways detour her from her dreams in life.
