Robin Thicke Admits Drug Use / Reveals He Was Too “High” To Remember Making Of ‘Blurred Lines’

I was high on vicodin and alcohol when I showed up at the studio

‘Confessions’ may be the name of Usher‘s biggest album to date, but they’re also what fellow R&B crooner Robin Thicke is embracing today, spilling a number of stories on himself that will no doubt shock his supporters.

Why the performer is admitting that he had very little to do with his #1 single ‘Blurred Lines.’

Pills and potions below…

After ‘Blurred‘s release, the children of the late Marvin Gaye hit Thicke with claims that the cut was nothing more than imitation of the singer’s 1977 classic ‘Got to Give It Up.’

Thicke‘s response? File a lawsuit seeking to protect his ‘Lines’ from being called a rip-off by Gaye’s family, prompting them to put together an audio mashup of the two songs to show just how similar they sound in an attempt to win the case.

What happened next?

‘The Hollywood Reporter’ spills…

Thicke and Williams gave their depositions this past April, and they were both incredibly hostile.

For example, when Richard Busch, attorney for the Gayes, attempted to play the mash-up for Thicke’s ears, the singer begged him to stop. “It’s so hard to listen to it,” said Thicke, referencing a clash between major and minor chords. “It’s like nails on a f—ing chalkboard… This is [like] Stanley Kubrick‘s movie Clockwork Orange. Where he has to sit there and watch… Mozart would be rolling in his grave right now.”

The deposition turns even more strange once Thicke is forced to explain his many statements to the media about how Gaye has inspired him. For example, he once told GQ Magazine, “Pharrell and I were in the studio and I told him that one of my favorite songs of all time was Marvin Gaye’s ‘Got to Give It Up.’ I was like, ‘Damn, we should make something like that, something with that groove.’ Then he started playing a little something and we literally wrote the song in about a half hour and recorded it.”

Problem is, that isn’t what happened. Well, at least not according to Thicke. For, under oath, the entertainer confessed:

I was high on vicodin and alcohol when I showed up at the studio. So my recollection is when we made the song, I thought I wanted — I  — I wanted to be more involved than I actually was by the time, nine months later, it became a huge hit and I wanted credit. So I started kind of convincing myself that I was a little more part of it than I was and I — because I didn’t want him — I wanted some credit for this big hit. But the reality is, is that Pharrell had the beat and he wrote almost every single part of the song.

Used to relieve moderate to severe pain, Vicodin is a paracetamol which includes the narcotic Hydrocodone, whose side effects include lightheadedness, anxiety, nausea and, according to Thicke, amnesia.

For despite claiming to have co-written the cut, he now claims his use of the drug has seen him forget just how much of the number he actually penned. Problematic, as Thicke has been collecting 18-22% of the publishing royalties earned by the song.

In his deposition, Pharrell reveals:

This is what happens every day in our industry. You know, people are made to look like they have much more authorship in the situation than they actually do. So that’s where the embellishment comes in.

Upon learning of Thicke’s shocking confession, the Gayes have hit back with the statement below…

Thicke, for his part, now claims he made all of his statements while drunk or on drugs, none of them true, and he mentioned Marvin Gaye only to sell records.
He also actually testified that he is not an honest person. This complete contempt for the judicial system, and their obligations to tell the truth, can best be summed up by Thicke’s ultimate admission, while under oath, that he ‘[does not] give a f–k’ about this litigation.

Blurred lines indeed.

All this over a sing. The Gayes need lives. Jealousy ain’t a good look b******!!!!!!!

    • JT>>>JC>>JB September 15, 2014

What an ignorant b**** you are. First of all, even Robin admitted he was inspired by the song and secondly why would Marvin Gayes family envy this dope fiend manipulitah!

      • Everyone’s A Critic September 15, 2014

I’m a song writer… I draw inspiration from songs my mother played, songs I hear… EVERYONE does it. How many songs sound like each other in the charts alone. Greedy b****** like the Gayes can’t just be flattered a new hit spawned from the influence Marvin left behind, they want a cheque! So no, I’m not an ignorant b**** you gully trash! I’m just humble

      • JT>>>JC>>JB September 15, 2014

You’re a song writer? I dread to hear your songs b****! I really do.

      • Everyone’s A Critic September 15, 2014

Well what a malnourished comment! You know NOTHING about me.. For all you know we could have so much in common. Stories, experiences, attitudes, fantasies are things I write about and you’ve literally denied all of them before you’ve even heard it… You are so dumb, like really dumb! Does your mother know you’re this stupid?

      • JT>>>JC>>JB September 15, 2014

Does your mother know that your p**** lips filed for divorce?

That’s what’s wrong with this generation a bunch of unoriginal bltches that ya’ll are.

      • Everyone’s A Critic September 15, 2014

My generation and robins are FAR apart b****! I’m not even 20, robins probably old enough to be my dad! There’s only so many times something can be original. Thousands of songs are produced yearly… There’s bound to be more similar songs than highly authentic, original ones. Learn from what I just said and get educated

    • Everyone’s A Critic September 15, 2014

I’m just making a very general INDIRECT statement here.. I do not respond to things that don’t make sense… That’s not how communication works. Come correct if you’re talking to the critic.. I HAVE SPOKEN

      • Good sis September 15, 2014

That’s too late for that you already responded basic ho……now run along now thanks.

      • Everyone’s A Critic September 15, 2014

You’re so vain, my previous comment wasn’t even directed to you!!! But you clearly want a dragging, but i won’t give you the satisfaction.. So I’ll run along and hopefully won’t run into you again on here!

I ain’t a “her”. I am a boy and I will be addressed as a boy! Have some manners

    • Guest September 15, 2014

Yes, all of this over a song. There’s a fine line between inspiration and outright stealing, and they shmoney danced all over that line. I don’t know if you are familiar with Marvin Gaye’s music, particularly Got to Give It Up, but Blurred Lines is essentially a remake of Got to Give It Up. They don’t sound similar they sound identical. If the Gaye estate had been properly credited this situation would not have happened.

    • The Wig Snatcher September 15, 2014

This is a classic example of a honkee using Black culture for fame and then throws his nigggers under the bus when the kitchen is hot…just like his sister Justina Timberfake.

    • Proud-Arianator September 15, 2014

How often do you get high?

      • Good sis September 15, 2014

        judging from it’s comments plenty

    • Everyone’s A Critic September 15, 2014

My comments always bring a little insight or engage debate. I’m not a druggy or a habitual user. I smoke when I want to feel a high which is not often. I don’t need to justify myself nah further to scum like you Good Sis… I’m just saying, the good Kush makes you creative. I’m sure Bob Marley would agree as he bieved it brought you to a spiritual state

      • Don’tdoit September 15, 2014

Don’t try to liken your experimentation with weed to Bob Marley’s use of it. Ganja is intrinsic to the Rastafarian religion and is more encompassing than your passing interest in weed as a way to get simply get high. If you’re not naturally creative then it’s just not there and no amount of weed can change that.

  9. tits mcgee September 15, 2014

If this is true drug and alcohol abuse is true, it
would further explain, Paula’s exit from the
    marriage.

No matter who really wrote the song, it borrows
heavily from the Marvin hit. No amount of
    backpedaling, changes that…

Unoriginality is so hard to come by these days so this is no shock to me. Robin should be ashamed of himself for all of this and he better kiss his career goodbye because everybody is over him. He was a fool to think he could ever compete with Justin Timberlsay. A FOOL I tell you! A fool.

    • S****** Blonde September 15, 2014

The Beyonce fans need to sit down, Beyonce can hardly get through a page of a Beauty and the beast children’s book without stumbling on the “and” and “their” so save it with the b*******.

Everyone knows the only thing Beyonce has ever written are the zeroes behind the 1 on the checkbook of her multiple copyright infringement lawsuits.

    • WhenItComesToBey September 15, 2014

You know what. You right. Beyonce can’t read or write. If she did I know she would have written to the US border agency and had Rihanna’s green card revoked after she found out that s*** was working on a student visa…cos you know she came to America to LEARN from the Queen.

      • I Am…Romeo Fierce September 15, 2014

7? Isn’t that the number of times it took Rihanna to get a number one? I think it is.

First: Beyoncè does not have the power to send an immigrant back to his/her country of origin just with a call, if you have a student visa, that means you have permission to stay in the country, the student is also allowed to work but not to take any type of full time employment, every American should provide evidence of their accusations towards citizens of foreign countries, don’t take for granted that Barbados is a Commonwealth realm with Queen Elizabeth II as Head of State, therefore Americans won’t treat Bajan people like Haitians.
second and last: Jay-Z would send his little wife to a mental hospital, if she do such thing, simply because, Rihanna is Queen Midas, everything she touch, becomes gold, Knowles and Carter needed Fenty way more than the Bajan beauty needed them, if Knowles was that good, Fenty wouldn’t exist but that girl changed Ms Carter plans in the blink of an eye, she had to adjust herself to the Rihanna’s era.
