Rihanna’s New Album ‘ANTI’ Rooted In Reggae?

Is Rihanna reviving her ‘Rude Boy’ sound for new album ‘ANTI’?

According to a new report, that’s what it looks like.

Full story below…

Hitmaking brothers R. City have opened up about their work on the troubled LP and revealed that the recoard has a distinct ”Caribbean vibe.”

Theron Thomas revealed:

”We definitely contributed to Rihanna’s album. We did some cool stuff and Rihanna is a cool person, good vibes, good energy … (She’s) very talented from the Caribbean just like us, we are from St Thomas. We have a whole new level of respect for her and she is tuned into the Caribbean vibe this time” {Source}

No word on when ‘ANTI’ drops, although November 6th has been touted by some industry insiders, while other reports suggest Jay Z is still locating a window to release the Roc Nation project.

As for the supposed return to Caribbean kissed cuts, we’re all for it.

Talent has never been at the forefront of Rihanna’s appeal, yet her success narrative as a “girl from the islands who made it big” is. So why not exploit it? What’s more, sonically, it’s probably the only thing she can push authentically that her contemporaries cannot.

Your thoughts?

    EPIC.

I’ve been waiting for Rihanna to do a modern “Reggae/Dancehall/Soca” inspired album for years and this would completely MAKE MY LIFE.

I would also love for her to do some “Roots Reggae” influenced songs.

    SLAY!!!!!!!

Who cares seriously! This music industry thing ain’t what it used to be! There’s too much Hype gossip social media tumors and False information! Lack of talent and I think there is too much bull sh*t music on the radio! The music industry is in trouble! I’m not hating on Rihanna but what she has contributed to the industry in this past year alone is garbage .. The business need a fresh AUTHENTIC face .. Talented vocals who is really speaking for the caribbean people not some Gimmick trying her hardest not to Flop! There is no reign coming from this girl! She’s has had a good run of success but she’s going to need something that she has never possessed her whole entire career ; TALENT! In order to have longevity in this business!

      • Faf November 2, 2015

If it’s reggae it will flop
Like her albums did when they were reggae

Just stop your obsession is getting pathetic. What about rita’s album?
As rihanna said any info about her album will come from her. Producers working on a song does not mean it will make the album

      1) Rihanna AND Beyonce are the two POP STARS of which site this makes the most money from. Sam, David, Rashad and co. have bills to pay and cheques to cash in, so…

      2) gonnoRITA Whora is a non-entity!

Now, Ci would handle a reggae song well. I’m sure of it! I can see it somewhere in the future for her. Maybe just one song, though. She kind of already did it with “Keep On Looking”, though.

      • whos xaxa November 2, 2015

lmao girl hide yourself it’s a trap-influenced song not reggae/dancehall inspired, haaaaaaaahahaha! and no, she wouldn’t, even speechless is louder than ci-error.

Girl, it’s a trap song, but let’s NOT act like that Jamaican chant in the beginning not reggae-influenced. After all, Future’s parents are Jamaican.

      • Faf November 2, 2015

Keep on looking and I’m out are both reggae influenced

        She wrote them

No anticipation yet Anti is the highlight of this blog, has made “most anticipated albums of 2016” lists, and anything she does trends on Twitter in hopes of the album release date… have a seat and use ur REAL username. That trolling s*** is NOT cute anymore.

Yeah I heard it’s top secret because this Jamaican artist named Kranium almost spilled the beans on a radio show and his management told him to back pedal off of that topic during an interview. And I heard Vybz Kartel is on her new album. Does her country have their own stars? Lol nvm. I am not craving a Rihanna album as much as Samn and everyone else but I can’t wait too.

Carribean pop music is the way for Rihanna to go in this phase of her career, which could end up being her most successful era to date if she makes the music poppier like No Doubt, Shaggy and Ace of Base did. She could make some stadium music that will live for decades to come. Smart move.

    • Dev November 2, 2015

      That’s exactly what I was thinking…

I would love for her to make an album comprised of modern “Reggae” music with high Pop/Rock influences like The Police etc. and more traditional roots- reggae/soca music along with some Latin Caribbean music.

Hell, she could so some sort of a double album and what not… It would be epic.

I’m tired of talking bout this album ????

  11. Barb-wire November 2, 2015

“I want to make songs that are timeless, things that felt real, that felt soulful, that felt forever, that I could perform in 15 years.”… Gurl bye, she was delusional if she actually believed what she was saying. M-I-Anti is the farthest thing to timeless judging by the few songs I’ve listened to.

    • What now November 2, 2015

In September, Minaj stated that “it was her best album to date” saying she had grown as a writer and was able to speak about topics that she had felt uncomfortable sharing two years ago.Later that month, Minaj characterized the album with it consisting out of “raw talent, emotion, hard spitting and everything that people have come to love about Nicki Minaj”. — My Anaconda don’t. My anaconda don’t. My anaconda don’t want none unless you got buns hon. Here’s your seat b**** ????????✌

    • shakira stan November 2, 2015

Timeless is the last thing I should be hearing from an onika fan .Even her boobs and booty ain’t timeless cos that plastic is gonna rupture any moment .

      • Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans November 2, 2015

I like Nicki, but I’m not gonna pretend like that shade you just threw didn’t cut deep. Two points for you, Shakira Stan.

    ????????????????

  13. Lover of music November 2, 2015

I usually feel like her so called “reggae-inspired”songs are more towards dancehall and not reggae.. but whatever she cooks I am here for it

  14. Sean November 2, 2015

I think i was the only one that enjoyed “Music Of The Sun”…im here for it her reggae inspired songs are the best “Here I Go Again”, “Rude Boy”, If It’s Loving That You Want”, “Watch N Learn”

    • Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans November 2, 2015

OMG! “Watch N’ Learn” is my pride and joy! I’ve literally seen EVERY Jamaican dirty whine to this song! They LOVE IT! I still can’t believe that she actually recorded the entire thing on a tour bus while on the “Loud Tour”. That’s incredible and truly hardworking.

  15. Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans November 2, 2015

I’m here for it! Give me something to dance to and stimulate me intellectually. That might actually work! Now, I just need her to release that album before next week is over if she’s serious about capitalize off of all the hard work she’s put in already….and getting a #1 album. The Grammy’s will follow in return because I’m sure the music will be innovative and critically-acclaimed. This really could be her “Rated R” part 2 because that masterpiece was also low-key reggae-influenced for most of the songs, even “G4L”. Anyway, I’m beyond all the way here for it. I just need it in my hands now! And she BETTER not have the photo booklet in braille without photos like the ones she SLAYED in “Rated R”.

    • iSpeakTruthNoFallacy November 2, 2015

Those photos in Rated-R did SLAY! My two favorites are the ones where she’s crawling in the black bra and stiletto heels, and I also love the back cover with her ass out smoking a cigarette

      • Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans November 2, 2015

Yes!!!! The one with her laying on top of the barbies and the other with the Bengal tiger mask and leaped print jumpsuit literally killed me. The only album booklet that can possibly hold a candle to it is probably Taylor Swift’s “Red”. People went so crazy when they saw those photos. Some even thought she was possessed, but I’m like no! She’s just being experimental and creative now that she finally has that outlet (and excuse) to do so because of the incident. I hope the pics for “Anti” are much “crazier” and innovative.

  16. iSpeakTruthNoFallacy November 2, 2015

I don’t know what to expect from this record. First, a song written by Prince, then it’s executive produced by Kanye, and now it supposedly has a “reggae/dancehall” vibe. WTF is going on here!

    • shakira stan November 2, 2015

The same thing that went wrong with the condom your mum used the day she conceived you.

  17. Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans November 2, 2015

@Barb-wire, this is left field, but I just HAD to talk to a barb about this. Do you know that Nicki is doing 3 STADIUMS in Brazil and 1 in Chile next year when she returns with the “Pink print Tour”? NONE OF THE SHOWS ARE FESTIVALS TOO AND SHES HEADLINING THEM BY HERSELF! Aren’t you so proud of her? I sure am! Now, the black trio (Rih, Bey, and Nicki) are all stadium acts! Congrats to her! I’m here for Tinashe performing in front of a stadium for the first time as well.

    • shakira stan November 2, 2015

      The joke writes itself

      • Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans November 2, 2015

But it’s not a joke. It’s the truth. Now, a REAL joke would be Shakira getting a platinum album and single this year and next without clinging to anyone.

  18. StrawberryMuffin24 November 2, 2015

Who cares at this point her whole era since she dropped that wack ass song Fourfivefourheads has been garbage and a mess a full year of pushbacks and doing a whole album over what an embarrassment of an era!lol

  19. Slay_Hive November 2, 2015

Lol R8/FLOPTi is the most confusing album campaign ever. Her team is desperately seeking some type of buzz.. They want something to stick bad..Chile give ur thirsty ass fans the music before the rest abandon you..smh????????????

    • Rihboy November 2, 2015

Seems like you care more than us. Stay perched on her tip.

      • Slay_Hive November 2, 2015

Shading this sad and disorganized era translates into ‘caring’ to you?? Biitch please!! The only thing I’m anticipating is the sales and the navi meltdowns..???? She is the “international Icon” as her fans claim. Lol Dont get it twisted *n queen Bey voice*

  20. Rihboy November 2, 2015

Smart move. Even though majority of her hits are in the Pop/urban lane, I feel like she can do major damage sticking to her roots. Rude boy, no love allowed, man down, what’s my name, watch and learn we’re perfect cuts blending Pop and Caribbean vibes. In an older interview she mentioned having plenty of different sounding songs done, they were just having an issue putting them together to make a cohesive album. I think she should just do like a side beside and put all of her pop driven and urban on one and put the reggae/soca inspired on thee other. I’m really interested to here kiss it better and higher songs that she has teased. Mike Will posted a few months back and said she was still releasing nothing promised. Conclusively I see why she may be at a rut with putting it together, however I heavily doubt that they won’t get it together soon.

  21. MsYonce November 2, 2015

FFS, BBHMM and AO, Higher, Kiss It Better won’t fit well on the album if this is true. I think that’s Rihanna’s problem right now she doesn’t know how to get these songs fit on one album and make it flow. This era is very confusing.

  22. MsYonce November 2, 2015

She said she doesn’t want to make Pop music this time around ( songs like her past hits). But I think her team changed their mind after the singles she released.

  23. No favs, just here for the music November 2, 2015

Hmmmmm…. but most of the snippets/songs released thus far has nothing to do with Reggae sound.

Now I’m starting to understand when people say that ANTI is all over the place. Having a ton of different sounds on one album isn’t necessarily a bad thing though. I personally don’t mind it but it just seems like everything has been slopped together. Very disorganized.

  24. DIABETES UNBOTHERED November 2, 2015

ANTIprispirant is struggling for a release date hits & even a SOUND. Regae music is boring. All I’m hearing from the singles and snippetanna is rated r and una part 3… nothing fresh or timeless which is what they wanted. Rih needs to hurry & release HIGHER if she wants ANTIprispiration to atleast hit top 5.

  25. DIABETES UNBOTHERED November 2, 2015

#PRAY4RL8 adele: Hello from the flop side… I know u can see that I tried… To warn u not to release anti this winter… when u flop u can’t say I didn’t tell u… told u so! ANTI-hit will be lucky to sale 100k opening wk

  26. Anti (hives scared of R8) November 2, 2015

    “The era is very confusing”

I think this was her plan all along. Not to confuse people but make the album unpredictable. This is not a bad thing. With the singles released the album could go in 3 different directions.Confused GP gonna buy it out of curiosity.Overall Anti will slay, the #1 hit might even be on the album.Bookmark me!

    • Anne November 2, 2015

Sounds like a strong case of wishful thinking. But will see, eventually.
