Fantasia Defends Headlining Slot At ‘All Lives Matter’ Concert

Fantasia has found herself on the receiving end of a firestorm after it was announced that she’d be headlining an ‘All Lives Matter’ concert.

Initially set to be staged in her hometown of Charlotte yesterday, the gig has been postponed until next week for reasons unknown.

But the furore surrounding her involvement remains a very present problem.

Particularly in the current climate, with the advent of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ initiative; which itself was born out the continued injustices against Black people in the US and across the world.

Feeling the heat, Fantasia took to Facebook to defend herself. View the her video statement below…

Together with her husband Kendall Taylor, the singer asserted that all lives do matter – citing religion and the fact she has biracial nieces and nephews…

We love Ms. Barrino, but feel it important that folk understand that not all critique is “hating.”

It goes without saying that everyone’s life does matter and should hold equal value. However, context is everything. As such, it’s difficult to divorce the “All Lives Matter” statement from the reality that it’s more often than not used as a counteracting argument to any mention of “Black Lives Matter.”

Almost as if those who cling to it are, at a granular level, offended by the notion of Black people asserting that their lives matter…too. Not more, but “too.”

It’s sad, as the BLM movement is subscribed to by members of many races who together unite to bring about unity.

Hence, in view of this, it’s more than apparent why it’s problematic for such a prominent R&B performer to not “get” any of the aforementioned.

Perhaps she does but her views are different? Who knows. What is certain, though, is that we’re all entitled to our own opinion. It’ll be interesting to see if hers stays the same after she rides this wave of rage she’s receiving.

Anyway, here’s the poster in question…

BLM people are annoying!!! They just sit around dragging people online all day. I know Fantasia meant no harm and aren’t all of the artists on the bill BLACK? Where is her PR? This video should’ve never been made. I can’t.

    • SMH September 26, 2016

If they are, then they should ALL be ashamed of themselves. This whole ‘All Lives Matter’ bullisht is nothing more than another way of saying that Black Lives DON’T Matter. If you don’t get that, then you’re part of the problem.

      • Martin Luther The King September 26, 2016

Hey racist, please explain to everyone why all lives don’t matter.

      • SMH September 26, 2016

Hey ignorant jackasss, ‘all lives’ aren’t being gunned down in the streets by racist police, so explain to me exactly why BLACK LIVES MATTER offends you.

    • ? September 26, 2016

ALL LIVES MATTER >>>>>>>>>> THE OTHER ONE

      • Truth(yaaasss honey) September 26, 2016

        Eat me

    • Amira September 26, 2016

ALM is just a way to to try to drown the BLM movement but its failing in all its futile attempts to do so. As a matter of fact its Strengthening the BLM movement even further as it travels around the WORLD. Fanny and Anthony should be ashamed of themselves and they need NOT bite the hands and people that support and feed them! I can guarantee that No White folks are checking for them irreguardless to who’s lives matter! SMH

    • Brannndy September 26, 2016

Umm she is an illiterate person who probably reads on a 6th grade level so of course she is not going to understand the complexities involved with BLM movement. Gotta give the poor thing a pass and her mentioning the biracial nieces and nephews was just Hilarious because some of BLM most pivotal players are BIRACIAL honey lol! She and her using husband are soooo CLUELESS

  2. Teflon Boy September 26, 2016

The real issue here is ‘All Lives Matter’ doesn’t actually mean or stand for anything other than as a shut down response to ‘Black Lives Matter’ i.e. Where is the focal point? The reality is that when adhering to an All Lives Matter approach to problem solving, resources inevitably go to the majority i.e. White citizens. The whole point of Black Lives Matter is to address the imbalance of resources, justice, treatment privilege and positive visibility. Can someone explain to me what All Lives Matter is actually about?

    • Fancy BISH September 26, 2016

Thank you! The Black Lives Matter movement is on the verge of being iconic, with the right leadership and strategies..the hashtag is ALREADY ICONIC! It was founded by THREE BLACK WOMEN – Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi..they have a love for all people, but it was created to SHINE POSITIVE LIGHT on BLACK LIVES after all the racial inequality and the horrible, targeted killings of young black men by law enforcement! Black lives are constantly devalued in the United States! And It saddens me how some critics try to downplay BLACK LIVES ONCE AGAIN by de-emphasizing! I swear, everytime BLACK PEOPLE start something…and we are AMAZING at creating things that LIFT OUR SPIRITS in hard times and oppression…from spirituals to hashtags…you KNOW what happens! The Black Lives Matter MOVEMENT includes ALL PEOPLE from all walks of life! There’s no need to say all lives matter..that’s redundant! It’s called #BlackLivesMatter! GET IT RIGHT. Injustice for BLACK LIVES is an injustice for EVERYONE. Value us!

      • Martin Luther The King September 26, 2016

Iconically racist. You bigots really have some explaining to do. Such a violent murderous BLM making us look really racist now. And explain why all lives don’t matter. Those 280 white folk got shot by cops this year matter too. Please stop being racists.

      • Fancy BISH September 26, 2016

You have the NERVE to have your screen name someone who who would have supported Black Lives Matter…are you serious? BIGOT? RACIST? You DON’T KNOW THE DEFINITION OF THE WORDS! Everything you said is just ridiculous…and did you really just say WHITE FOLK? I’m confused by you lol

      • Adrian Lepier September 26, 2016

I seriously doubt that MLK would have supported BLM, or their methods. MLK would have seen this group as being flawed, problematic and counterproductive. He knew that in order to have a case for demanding respect, people needed to carrying themselves respectably. Go to BLM website; on it they denounce that whole attitude. They think that everyone should be entitled to respect, no matter how uncouth said person behaves. MLK was better than this whole movement and it’s disgusting that these ill-mannered CHILDREN are being lumped in with the Civil Rights Movement that he led in the 50s and 60s.

      • Fancy BISH September 26, 2016

Adrian Lepier, I’m sorry but I’m going to have to disagree with you…Martin Luther King would have FULLY supported Black Lives Matter…it’s all about getting the right leadership and STRATEGISTS…Dr. Martin Luther King was INTRODUCED to the teachings and methods of Gandhi by one of his strategists…BAYARD RUSTIN, the LEADING strategist of the Civil Rights Movement…he was AMAZING…Rustin CONVINCED Dr. King to abandon having a personal handgun and armed protection..ok? lol, Dr. King was YOUNG himself, remember that! Rustin shaped King’s ideas about peaceful protest and nonviolence – he was 17 years older than King…Rustin planned and organized the March On Washington! HELLO? Rustin was handsome, intelligent, outspoken and an openly gay black man…talk about being courageous! You have to have the right team…King would’ve known that, and would have helped advise BLM, in my opinion.

      • ByeJay September 26, 2016

Y’all keep talking about MLK like he’s the ONLYYYYYYYY person and leader of the civil rights movement. I’m guessing it’s the only one you read in the textbook ?

      • SMH September 26, 2016

I want someone to give me one example of how the BLACK LIVES MATTER movement is ‘violent and murderous’. Name one person that the Black Lives Matter movement killed in cold blood and got away with it. I’ll wait….

    • Cj September 26, 2016

All live do matter though. There are injustices to people off all colors. People are wrongfully killed and imprisoned for no reason. It is not just black people! Stop feeling targeted!! Just stop!

      • B&B September 26, 2016

Cj please kindly shut the fvck up! Blacks ARE being targeted in NORTH AMERICA! People who run “All Lives Matter” should just cram it!!!! Cuz they are hypocrites, the implication is that BLACK LIVES DONT MATTER to them!!!! Who else is being targeted on by institutionalized racism?!?!? What other race is being lied to about their origin? Their worth? Their dignity? What other race is being told they are animals in comparison to others? What other race is being called everything in the book except for th real name of their racial heritage???? We aren’t “black” we aren’t “African Americans” we aren’t “N!ggers” we are fvcking HEBREW but the world is trying to cover the s*** up!!!

  3. Yolanda September 26, 2016

I love you Fantasia, but no. Can’t you get another gig? Is that gig worth the ambiguous message in the poster? I have to turn my back on you for this one. The points you make are senseless ie white people come to my shows. Hence, my best friends are white. I have biracial relatives. In society they are considered black. There is so much to dispute.

    • Martin Luther The King September 26, 2016

I commend this sister for standing up for what she believes. She obviously loves all people. Not just us black folk. But ALL folks.

      • SMH September 26, 2016

If all lives really mattered, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

  4. JustJoshua September 26, 2016

Well this is a conundrum. I personally feel that BLM is a very necessary movement but its Fandingo’s right to represent ALM without opposing BLM even if the masses only use it for opposing BLM. Poor FanFan!

  5. #justsayn September 26, 2016

Black people just don’t show up at this event! Just don’t go! If u don’t agree! Her core audience is blk folks so she really is screwing herself up!

  6. pat September 26, 2016

what the heck does being biracial have to do with anything. That’s the problem. We think only “pure” black (sounds stupid to even type) people should be supporting the BLACK lives matter movment, when EVERYBODY should.

    • Martin Luther The King September 26, 2016

A racial connotation attached to a movement IS RACIST. Hey you bigot, please explain why all lives don’t matter…

      • Cbeylive September 26, 2016

@MLK you are obviously just trolling saying the same thing over and over when ppl gave u a response

  7. Kwinzy September 26, 2016

Tasia, if the check didn’t roll through… Would all lives still matter?

    • Igotstatellithowiseeit September 26, 2016

On the opposite side, you suckas aren’t supporting her career so she gotta do what she gotta do. Music is music this is how she makes a living. Music is universal and brings everybody together. I personally don’t care either way but don’t judge someone, ever…

      • Martin Luther The King September 26, 2016

Gives us real hope to know that someone actually gets it. BLM has be come a multi billion dollar industry. Putting a racial connotation on a movement is exploitation. And judging by these posts, alot of brothers and sisters being deceived.

      • Kwinzy September 26, 2016

First off, stop replying to yourself you sick b******. Second, I rep #TeamTasia and have a few of her albums. I love her enough to tell her she’s wrong. Black people need to stop looking for white validation & acceptance. Thirdly, don’t ever bring up MLK’s name to support the elitist idea that “All Lives Matter,” when your cyber c*** ass hasn’t done anything than come for people on the net.

  8. AndWhat? September 26, 2016

This b**** thinks white people love her like that? I will tell you this, all of you all will justify her actions and not even buy her music. The people aho would support her are likely to be offended by this. By i guess when your career is going nowhere, take the Stacy Dash route.

    • Martin Luther The King September 26, 2016

If you’re offended by including everyone then you must be a racist yourself. This black woman has more courage in one night then you will ever have your whole life. This $billion dollar exploitation called BLM must go my brother. Think real hard.

  9. Biting Truth September 26, 2016

This is hilarious, if only because of how b***-hurt uptight black folk will get. The whole ‘[insert whatever title] Lives Matter’ is obnoxious, tacky and tiresome. I already know that my life matters, so I don’t need to scream into someone’s face that it does. If someone DOESN’T think that certain lives matters, yelling and chanting catchphrases isn’t going to change any minds.

    • Martin Luther The King September 26, 2016

Bout time someone speak the truth. I also refuse to be exploited by this fake movement. $$$

  10. SMH September 26, 2016

Sorry Fantasia, you do not get a pass for this just to sell your album. Both you & Anthony Hamilton should be ashamed of yourselves. I’ve lost respect for both of you.

    • Rancor September 26, 2016

      Neither needs your respect.

    • Martin Luther The King September 26, 2016

Stop being a racist. We must include everyone. Including the 280 white folk that been shot by cops this year. BLM is exploiting you my young brother. Wake up. Stop making them rich off your back.

      • ByeJay September 26, 2016

Making them rich ????? Off what merits

      • SMH September 26, 2016

Funny how you keep bringing up 280 white people (if that number is even true). If all lives mattered, why aren’t you speaking on the 730 black people killed by police this year? The white man truly has your brain in shackles my “brother”. Looks like you’re the one that needs to wake up.

  11. ZION! September 26, 2016

    GOOD FOR YOU FANTASIA!

I swear, BLM are so annoying and so are the majority these dumbass African Americans that’s support. They are simply the most f***** up ethnicity within the black race as a whole – they self hate, they don’t support their own acts/artists and they expect everything to be handed to them. They’re truly vermin and I can’t stand them! Always moaning about what they don’t have and then when they get it they don’t do s*** to help their own communities.

    .

I’m glad you are one woman willing to stand up and not join in with the rest of these irritating ass neurons!

    • KVH September 26, 2016

Your mother is truly vermin and the other rats in the sewer can’t stand her, but she keeps trying to hang out there.

  12. AndWhat? September 26, 2016

LOL, also her uneducated, cant read or write self is the face of All Lives Matter? Maybe you white people can finally buy her music? I mean she has been relying on black people all her career.

    • Tori September 26, 2016

This is just dumb as he’ll seeing as how Fantasia went back to school and is fully educated. She can read and write and even gets paid for her writing. Next time, if you’re going to try to kick someone down, at least use factual information.

      • Martin Luther The King September 26, 2016

Stop being a racist. We must include everyone. Including the 280 white folk that been shot by cops this year. BLM is exploiting you my young brother. Wake up. Stop making them rich off your back.

  13. Adrian Lepier September 26, 2016

I’m black and I think the whole BLM movement is largely petulant, aggravating and doesn’t help much. All they’re doing is exploiting REAL issues faced by black people (that SHOULD be discussed and dealt with) as an excuse to be bitter, self-righteous, OTT and plain nasty. Once upon a time, the premise may be well-intentioned, but the execution is wretched. All it is is sour grapes Tumblr come to life. That being said, retorting with “All Lives Matter” is condescending and offensive.

    • Um. September 26, 2016

That being said, what are YOU doing to combat black subjugation and socio-structural disadvantages? It kills me when the people who have the most criticism for the effectiveness of black movements and protests, are the same ones doing… nothing.

      • keepit100 September 26, 2016

Thank you so much for dragging that annoying post. Everything has to have a start somewhere.

      • Martin Luther The King September 26, 2016

By including every life you are doing much more measurable change than letting yourself be exploited by $BLM$. Wake up my brothers and sisters. Tasia got it right

      • I can’t September 26, 2016

Measurable change? Measured by whom? In what units? Provide adequate evidence to support your claim, please. I can’t wait for this answer.

  14. Tori September 26, 2016

What I don’t understand is why the ppl who don’t buy her albums or go to her shows are so hurt? Why do ppl only associate “All Lives Matter” with white ppl? All Lives Matter can stand for white on white violence and black on black violence, or all hate crimes and killing. I don’t see a problem with ALM, the way they are branded is just f***** up. They represent like an angry comeback to BLM instead of actually standing for something. That should’ve been Fantasia focus point of defending herself. But ppl really need to come together and realise that ALM & BLM are nothing more than handbags and t-shirts, really b******* that ppl use to make their selves feel better for whatever reason.

  15. Chad September 26, 2016

By saying “all lives matter” is willfully going back to ignoring the problem. It’s a way of dismissing the statement by falsely suggesting that it means “only black lives matter,” when that is obviously not the case. And so saying “all lives matter” as a direct response to “black lives matter” is essentially saying that we should just go back to ignoring the problem.

  16. ?Yellow Diamonds? September 26, 2016

Maybe she just signed on the dotted line? Y’all know the dumb b*tch can’t read.

  17. The kpop guy, Matt ~ September 26, 2016

    But all lives do matter

    • Fancy BISH September 26, 2016

      DUH! lol #BlackLivesMatter

    • lolhart September 26, 2016

Not surprised by your response considering Korea is one of the most racist countries towards black people and still has sketches with blackface as comedy.

  18. L21480 September 26, 2016

Fantasia should know better than to participate in this. A paying gig is a paying gig, but they can’t possibly be paying her enough to cover the potential damage this does to her career overall. And I say this as someone who isn’t even that much of a supporter of BLM, but still – “ALL LIVES MATTER” is a phrase that tends to agitate the people who normally support her. Even if she isn’t that bent on the BLM movement herself, she should still know who her fans her and act accordingly. Playing a concert under that title can be damaging to any black performer.

  19. A&R September 26, 2016

Lord knows I love me some Fannny. When I briefly met her I felt her heart. And for that I’ll continue to support her music but I will not support that concert or the video. No lie, I’m so shocked that she doesn’t get it. I’m blown away and hope that someone gets to her and have a talk. This is why doing research is so important. My happy ass was at the park, yesterday, waiting for the concert and got a text that it was rescheduled. I’m so happy I’ve learned why. I will not go and will tell everyone I know not to go. The ignorance has to be killed.

  20. FAKE SONGWRITING CREDITS September 26, 2016

My two cents, she is pulling an A$AP Rocky, she never experienced police brutality, she won American Idol over a white girl, so she thinks she is above that issue.
Maybe she is being selfish but the reality is some people just don’t care about BLM, even black people, plus she is thirsty for the check LMAOOO.

  21. keepit100 September 26, 2016

BLM vs ALM is so draining, if she wants to throw what’s left of her career down the drain, so be it. Some people are woke, other aren’t thats what it is.

  22. Jason September 26, 2016

I just can’t get over how ugly her illiterate home wreaking ass is ? Anyway, i’m not surprised.

  23. Linear September 26, 2016

BLM is an attention-seeking group with a terrorist complex. Search it on YouTube and read the comments on ANY video that comes up in the results and you’ll see exactly how people feel about this spectacle.

    • I can’t September 26, 2016

Using the content of YouTube comments for support?? Lmao. You’re actually retarded. Higher education is recommended.

    • B&B September 26, 2016

Black Lives Matter is a simple title for a MOVEMENT, its not an appointed group of people. Where do people get that misinformation from? Geez

  24. Truth September 26, 2016

Wow. A Fantasia article with over 40 comments, and none of them mention the ‘B’ or ‘R’ words. Monday morning weirdness.

    • OQRAM September 26, 2016

I’m so tempted to say those words now… lol

  25. nico September 26, 2016

Who cares? She is so ugly her uglyness matter too lol

    • Monica Dove September 26, 2016

      Case in point.
People will find any opportunity to tear Fantasia down. Disgusting.

  26. Chile Please!!! September 26, 2016

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh….I’m pretty sure Fanny is saying to herself, “All Checks Matter”….honey….when they are paying you those good coinz $$$….You will sing at Dairy Queen standing on top of those concrete tables with the seats outside LMAO!

  27. Tina Lord Roberts September 26, 2016

    “All Checks Matter” 😀

    • Fancy BISH September 26, 2016

      lol

  28. Monica Dove September 26, 2016

People just love to bully Fantasia. This concert was organized to UNIFY the community. I highly doubt Fantasia or any of the performers are trying to take away from BLM. Hell, Fantasia just performed at the grand opening of the Smithsonian African American Museum in DC and she stays perched at BET events when most of your favs think they’re too good to attend.

  29. Orangeyougladididntsaybanana September 26, 2016

Black lives don’t matter to other black people ☕️

    • B&B September 26, 2016

Yes they do. R u one of the people you’re referring to?

  30. Dawn September 26, 2016

FANTASIA JUST SHUT THE HELL UP AND SING…DON’T VOICE YOUR OPINION ON ANYTHING.. JUST STICK TO SINGING…

  31. B&B September 26, 2016

I commend you, ThatGrapeJuice, for shedding light on this “All Lives Matter” concert. When I saw this, I was repulsed. Didn’t Fantasia just get saved like… Seriously? I heard an anointing in her when she sang “I made it”… Now the devil tryna gain a foothold on her but he won’t succeed!!!! I honestly think all black people should drop out of that lineup of performances… And no blacks should attend. Its a concert with the intent to SPIT on our current struggles like we ain’t sh!t!!!! Its sickening!!!!!!!!!

  32. SMH September 26, 2016

I’d like to know if all the morons on this board criticizing the Black Lives Matter movement have the same criticism for the KKK, an organization that actually has a murderous, violent history that has been around for over 100 years? Or do u simply give them a pass because they don’t call themselves ‘White Lives Matter’.

  33. RIP September 26, 2016

Doesn’t even surprise me that a bunch of brain dead zombies frequent tgj,it actually explains alot.
Just remember, during the civil rights movement of the 60’s there were blacks telling MLK and Malcolm they were causing nothing but trouble. They were content with the conditions of Jim Crow.Im so glad they were told to STFU and were cast aside.

When Whites say all lives matter, majority of the time it’s an attempt to make minorities stop expressing their grievances. If you’re Hispanic or Latino and saying that s*** just remember, you guys did absolutely nothing during the civil rights movement and benefit solely from blacks being fed up. Miss me with that more Whites being killed by police because it’s actually a load of BS.

Fantasia can’t even read, do you really expect her to get the social aspect of her actions? A check is a check but are you really going to alienate the only audience that will have you, for that one check in particular? It’s clear alot of us have outgrown TGJ at this point. Some of the regulars know nothing outside of pop culture.

  34. eric September 26, 2016

All Lives Matter isn’t necessarily a counter-argument. It was created as a response to the senseless acts of retaliatory violence that have resulted in more death and destroyed businesses and buildings where honest and hard working people have tried to make a living for themselves. If our goal is to save black lives, maybe we should spend less time taking offense from ALM and give more time toward stopping the much bigger problem of black on black violence.

Black lives matter and so does every ones else’s life that’s been affected by police brutality! All black people know we are a target because we are the only ones vocal about it! All lives do matter shouldn’t nor does it diminish what the movement is about…IT HAS THE SAME MEANING…If you’re black and get pulled over tell a cop All lives matter and he’ll completely get it! But if he’s a bad cop or one who lacks good judgement he’ll probably shoot you anyway! And not all black folks think the same way we are not a monolith but we all understand the hudge injustices that plague!
