With the release of Chris Brown’s sophomore album ‘Exclusive’ drawing nearer, tracks from the set are ‘surfacing’ on a near-weekly basis. The latest is ‘Down’, which features rapper Kanye West. Though the quality of the songs I’ve heard so far are steadily improving, the overall vibe I’m getting is that the album won’t be as good as his last.
Kanye West continued the along the promotional trail for his already Platinum selling album ‘Graduation’ – this time performing a mini-set on ‘Saturday Night Live’ this past week. Check out videos from Kanye’s appearance below:

The performances were great. That 106 & Park skit had me rolling lol.
Both Kanye West and 50 Cent performed and were interviewed together during 106 & Park’s ‘Clash Of The Titans’ special yesterday. Check out vids of their appearance below:

Good stuff. As contrived and overhyped as this ‘battle’ has been, it stands as one of the biggest things to happen to Hip-Hop (and music in general) in a long while. First-day sales show Kanye to be out in front with a whopping 437,000 copies sold of his album ‘Graduation’. 50′s current sales tally for ‘Curtis’ stands at 310,000. Many are expecting Kanye and possibly 50 to be certified Platinum before the week is out. {Source}
New videos seem to be premiering all over the place as of late, the most recent being for Kanye West’s new single ‘Good Life’ (ft. T-Pain). The song is the third single to be lifted from Kanye’s ‘Graduation’ album – which is in stores now. I’m liking the video, as well as the song, and applaud Kanye for continuing to bring something ‘different’. On a side note, there really isn’t any escaping T-Pain is there?
The above video of Kanye West was filmed by ET Insider following Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards. Evidently enraged, the rapper vented about feeling used by MTV and how it was ridiculous that he won no awards for the second year in a row. The rapper later announced that he’s boycotting MTV. Though he may have been justified in some of what he said, he’s lost points with me. I mean what was he thinking. Here’s Kanye, a Grammy Award winning artist, now whining about not winning a Moonman from MTV. It just doesn’t make any sense. He came across real dumb for that. Anyway, all is likely to be forgiven as many – including myself – are rooting for him to outsell 50 Cent this week.
Terrible. This basically sums up 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. I was already sceptical about the show considering the so-so line-up of performers, but it was a complete mess.
Setting the tone for the night was opener Britney Spears. With all that’s gone on, I was hoping she’d silence the naysayers, but this was a complete and utter and trainwreck. A combination of poor lipsyching, stiff choreography and an outfit that revealed her out of shape body, Britney’s performance will no doubt have many saying her career is over. It will be if she doesn’t find a way to redeem herself from that mess.
Most of the night’s other performers offered little of interest. Although I must give Rihanna props for doing her thing during Chris Brown’s so-so performance and later on during ‘Shut Up & Drive’.
The show wasn’t all bad, though. Alicia Keys’ performance was a standout. She nailed ‘No One’, making me like the song all the more. I wasn’t initially all that hyped for her performance, but she was definitely the highlight of what was a mediocre night (at best).
MTV really need to step it up and the show has been on a downward spiral for years. I was thinking it was all award shows, but the BET Awards this year really showed out – beating this mess hands down. SMH…
R&B star Alicia Keys has been added to the list of performers at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. The Grammy Award winning singer is slated to perform her new single ‘No One’ at the Las Vegas event. Keys joins previously announced performers 50 Cent, Kanye West, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Common, Nelly Furtado, Akon, Soulja Boy, T-Pain and Cee-Lo (of Gnarls Barkley). {Source}
Though Alicia always delivers with her performances, I can’t say I’m too hyped about this one. I like ‘No One’, but can’t help but feel she could have come a bit harder than she did with that track. Still, with the line-up kinda lacking any performers of real interest, Alicia is good addition.
Despite the poor performance of the singles released from his ‘Curtis’ album so far, 50 Cent remains confident of his chances of coming out on top in his chart battle with Kanye West. Speaking with San Diego’s 93.3 radio station yesterday (August 30th), he said:
“Its not possible for Kanye to beat me, I don’t know why I said that. Its like the teddy bear vs. the gorilla. Def Jam [West’s label] is going to buy about 200,000 of Kanye’s records. Kanye sucks, I’m going to be honest, he sounds like a robot, he has a robot record.”
Their albums need to hurry up and drop already; it’s gonna be a interesting to see 50 justify his losing (which seems inevitable now). We all know he won’t stay true to his word and retire if Kanye tops him (one can only dream), but he’ll be more of a joke than he already is.
The Screamfest tour hit New York’s Madison Square Garden yesterday (August 22nd) and looked to be a great show all-round. Hip Hop showed out in a major way with Jay Z, Diddy, T.I, Kanye West and 50 Cent (you read right) appearing on stage together. Check out more pics of the event below:

That first pic of 50 standing alone is priceless lol…though I’m sure it was just taken at the wrong time. Kanye and 50 onstage together is kinda suspect, but I doubt their ‘chart battle’ is a publicity stunt (as some will no doubt be thinking) – they were never ‘beefing’ (like that) to begin with. LMAO at Yung Joc – since when did rappers do strip teases?
