With T-Pain set to release his third studio album ‘Thr33 Ringz’ on September 30 (his birthday), the LP’s apparent first single ‘Silver & Gold’ has surfaced. It’s no secret that T-Pain likes to ‘sing’ (for the lack of a better word) about drinks, so it comes as no surprise that this cut is about mixing silver and gold Patron to make a new beverage. It’s typical T-Pain fare – so you’ll either love it or hate it. Can’t say this one does anything for me; still, it’ll probably be a hit. Is this what today’s industry has been reduced to?
With ‘Mariah Week’ in full swing, the diva’s BET special ‘The Relativity of Mariah’ (taped back in March) aired today. Check out performances of ‘Migrate / Touch My Body’, ‘Love Story / Shake It Off’ and ‘We Belong Together’ below:

Wow! She sounded great. Watching this kinda has me thinking she either had a few extra days “vocal rest” or that she’s only capable of delivering live vocals like that in front of her fans. Whatever the case, the performances were on-point. More of this, please.
Following Mariah’s premiere of ‘Migrate’ during her set on ‘Saturday Night Love’ a few weeks back, the studio version of the track surfaced via Chicago’s B96 radio station yesterday. The Danja produced cut is definitely one destined for the clubs. With its hard hitting production and catchy hooks, this one has hit written all over it. As one who often has a lot to say about Mariah’s current vocal state, I really can’t fault her delivery here; she flows effortlessly over the beat and still sounds great with T-Pain’s vocoder effect. Big ballad or otherwise for the second single (‘Bye Bye’ has been confirmed), ‘Migrate’ has to be a single at some point. Good stuff. ‘E=MC²’ drops April 15th.
The video Akon’s new single ‘I Can’t Wait’ premiered today. Featuring T-Pain, the song is lifted from Akon’s second studio album ‘Konvicted’. Both the song and video are pretty decent, yet I can’t help but wonder how these immensely talented individuals (lol lol) are guaranteed chart toppers.
For those who still care….ok, that was bad lol. It has been confirmed that Mya’s oft delayed album ‘Liberation’ will now be released on December 11th. I’m guessing her label are hoping to cash in on the holiday season. Yet, with all the push backs, I’m wondering if anyone still cares.
Will you be checking for ‘Liberation’ if and when it drops?
Terrible. This basically sums up 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. I was already sceptical about the show considering the so-so line-up of performers, but it was a complete mess.
Setting the tone for the night was opener Britney Spears. With all that’s gone on, I was hoping she’d silence the naysayers, but this was a complete and utter and trainwreck. A combination of poor lipsyching, stiff choreography and an outfit that revealed her out of shape body, Britney’s performance will no doubt have many saying her career is over. It will be if she doesn’t find a way to redeem herself from that mess.
Most of the night’s other performers offered little of interest. Although I must give Rihanna props for doing her thing during Chris Brown’s so-so performance and later on during ‘Shut Up & Drive’.
The show wasn’t all bad, though. Alicia Keys’ performance was a standout. She nailed ‘No One’, making me like the song all the more. I wasn’t initially all that hyped for her performance, but she was definitely the highlight of what was a mediocre night (at best).
MTV really need to step it up and the show has been on a downward spiral for years. I was thinking it was all award shows, but the BET Awards this year really showed out – beating this mess hands down. SMH…
R&B star Alicia Keys has been added to the list of performers at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. The Grammy Award winning singer is slated to perform her new single ‘No One’ at the Las Vegas event. Keys joins previously announced performers 50 Cent, Kanye West, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Common, Nelly Furtado, Akon, Soulja Boy, T-Pain and Cee-Lo (of Gnarls Barkley). {Source}
Though Alicia always delivers with her performances, I can’t say I’m too hyped about this one. I like ‘No One’, but can’t help but feel she could have come a bit harder than she did with that track. Still, with the line-up kinda lacking any performers of real interest, Alicia is good addition.
The video for Chris Brown’s new single ‘Kiss Kiss’ debuted today on BET’s 106 & Park. I’m guessing the fact that I’m not a fan of the song is hindering me from liking the otherwise decent video. Still, Chris delivers with the choreography (as usual) and it definitely trumps the mess that was the ‘Wall to Wall’ video.
Lil’ Wayne, T-Pain, Cee-Lo (of Gnarls Barkley), Common and Nelly Furtado have been added to the list of performers at this year’s MTV VMA’s. They will join previously-announced performers Kanye West, Chris Brown, Fall Out Boy. Rihanna, Foo Fighters and Amy Winehouse (TBD). The 2007 VMA’s will broadcast live from Las Vegas on September 9th.
The VMA’s have been slacking for years now and the BET Awards has become ‘the’ award show to watch. What happened to the ‘shock’ factor? I remember being in awe of Michael Jackson’s surprise performance with Justin and co at the 2001 show, as well as Beyonce tearing the house down at the 2003 ceremony. Since then it’s been kinda ‘blah’. I will be watching this year, though, and not because of any of the above performers. Like many, I’ll be looking out for the rumored comeback (or train wreck) performance of Britney Spears…that ought to be great television either way.
