It seems Rihanna’s team have saved the best till last; word has it ‘Breaking Dishes’ is the official next single to be lifted from the Bajan star’s LP ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’. Fans and critics alike have been calling for the song’s release ever since the album dropped back in April 2007. Granted it’s good to see the song (definitely one of the so-so album’s best) get the single treatment, they really could have spared me alot of the nonsense they released in-between (i.e. ‘Shut Up & Drive’). What is this, single 7 or 8? I’m convinced had the right singles been released (and Ms. Fenty actually being up to the job of doing them justice live), the sales of her album would have been what one would expect at this stage (which currently stand barely past the 2million mark, despite 3 #1’s and a re-release).

I agree Sam…actually this album really should just be put to rest. Why would you need to release almost every song off the album as a single? She should be gearing up to release a brand new album at this point…which she might want to look into because a few other artist are getting ready to release some big albums.

I am reminded by the whole news break about Rihanna being (relatively) broke. Her money manager said that Rihanna did well on airplay, but lacked staying power in terms of her albums and sales, which was why Rihanna ended up losing so much money in the first place.
Considering how disproportionately exposed she is to how much she actually sells, I think her money manager was definitely telling the truth. I enjoy Rihanna’s music–in the club, on the radio–but I don’t want to play it over and over to bask in her artistry and technical prowess. Her songs are fun to listen to, but I don’t think they really connect emotionally to people. It may be because of the way the songs are arranged or because of her voice or whatever (because lyrically and melodically, she has some good songs on her album), but what invariably happens with me is that I hear her song, enjoy it in the moment, and then forget it later.
Alicia Keys and Rihanna are different artists with different styles. But I buy nearly everything Alicia Keys produces because even after I’m done listening to her songs, they leave an emotional impression on me. Maybe that’s why Alicia Keys is selling more without nearly as much promotion.
But then again–the music industry’s a hard thing to gauge. And I’m definitely no expert.
Oh, I love this song, but I’m already sick of it! Anyway, it’s a great new. I think she should release “Rehab” as a single too.

Enough is a ENOUGH and six singles is the absolute limit. She has a hell of a lot to prove in the coming years because we know she’s not a good vocalist, her live performances suck, and she doesn’t write her own records. So unless she has the money to pay Timb, Ne-Yo, The Dream, Justin again (which I highly doubt since she probably is broke), she needs to start getting some vocal lessons, or learn a f*****’ trade because new people who look better than her, sound better than her, and perform better than her are gonna come out and take her out of the ‘top spot’. Not to mention the greats (i.e. Britney, Bee, and Christina) are coming back too and there is NO stopping those ladies. Robyn better put down the magazines and food, leave Chris’ movie shoot and get on her grind if she wants to keep her little bit of relevance.
