Beyonce held a mini-concert on NBC’s Today Show within the last hour in support of her #1 selling album ‘I Am…Sasha Fierce’. The LP rocketed to the top spot of the Billboard 200 this week with sales of 482,000. Check out Bey’s performances, live from New York’s Rockefeller Plaza below:

She is a great performer. But, I don’t think she’s that great of an “artist” overall. But, to each it’s own. I find it very telling that she couldn’t beat Mary and didn’t come close to Alicia’s numbers.
Madonna isn’t that great she barely did 200k in her first week and she’s been around alot longer than Beyonce. 482k or 505k depending on which site you believe is GREAT for anybody in today’s market. She promotes and gets to perform on these shows because they invite her and know that she is a helluva performer…one of a kind. You can’t put Ciara and C. Brown in a senence with her. They are good but need to improve their vocals while singing.

Mary, Alcia, and Beyonce sing different music and have a different audience and besides their albums came out last year. Today’s economy is much different than last year. Besides Bey and A. Keys have similar overall album sales and they both beat out Mary. I think the artists prefer to sell more over time than just the first week.

It’s just that Sam made a statement about Beyonce being “the game.” She is a good artist and outstanding performer, but does that really make you “the game.” That’s like saying she owns this sh*t! And her record sales are not showing that she is owning anything. She did very well but it was so much hype. Alicia’s sales have progressed from her first album to the 3rd one. But, Beyonce’s have actually went down a little lower. I have to question whether she is becoming an “icon” or “just another pop star.”

I don’t think people really dislike Beyonce but they dislike her fans. Because they go overboard and thinks she Gods Gift to the music world. In the music world, she had ok numbers but not great numbers they expected and this was a double disc album. She was suppose to go 700,000-a Million the first week and it didn’t happen. She was everywhere and had great promotion and it wasn’t enough. Mary J and Alicia who had less appearances and promotion outsold her. So she is not the queen yet! Not a hater but stating the facts.
Um Yes, A. Keys has been performing eveywhere because she re-released her album. She’s been on all the late shows, morning shows, the view and everything so YES she does promote as well ans so does Mary. What’s wrong with promoting ur music??? When you are in demand that is what you do. If they didn’t want her (beyonce) on those shows trust that she wouldn’t be there.

I don’t agree about setting the bar high as far as numbers because it makes it seem like that’s the only thing you really care about (at least they shouldn’t have made a public statement to Billboard about it). I think they really believed that she would sell that much opening week. I appreciate Kanye saying he’s doing it more for the art and less for the numbers. It may not be true, but it sounds better.
Why wouldn’t she do the dance for sinlge ladies when she is performing? I mean what is she supposed to do sit on a stool and sing an uptempo DANCE song? Most artists do a dance set for a song and continue to do that one because people know it and dance along.
Estelle, A. Keys and Solo all have great albums too but they don’t perform like Bey. I think that is the point Sam was making.

We are in a RECESSION people! And it WILL get worse before it gets better. The economy is not in the same condition as it was when Lil’ Wayne released his last album. Therefore, comparing sales is not as reliable when the conditions are different. The automobile industry, which provides MILLIONs of jobs,is in a financial crisis right now. Many people have to think, “do I want to put a few gallons of gas in my car or jam ‘Single Ladies’.” The ones with sense are jamming it on the radio as they drive to work!
Beyonce is not the game. The performances were quite boring to me. I think it’s maybe because she’s been performing way too much since the singles were released. I have seen Chris Brown in action and I have to say he was way more entertaining. Beyonce needs to sit down for a minute and make people hungry to see her again because I think she’s reached exposure OVERLOAD (too much promo). Still love her though.
First off Bey been out for 11 years and still able to sell $500,000 in her debut week excellent. MJb as much as we all love her overall sales aint nowhere close to Beys and she been out a lot longer. Nobody is taking anything from alicia she’s good but as an all around entertainer don’t think so. Who wants to see her sit at a piano for 2 hours in concert to play a piano. She doesn’t entertain on stage that’s why she never really does big tours. But once again she’s excellent and very talented can’t take that from her but if you want a real show you will see Bey point blank period. Alicia first week numbers are a little better but once again not her overall numbers and that’s the key. Pay attention they are two different artist who both do big numbers but Bey has been out longer yet she still brings the numbers in when you wouldn’t still expect her to be able to sell at all.
You people are crazy if you don’t think 482K is not good! With today’s economy she did phenominal! I mean times are rough, I was not able to get her album last week but I do plan on getting it. The black cat suit reminds me of Kelly Rowland. She wore a cat suit during quite a few of her promo performances for “Ms.Kelly”. One in particular was the House of Blues performance. It may still be on youtube. I think I’ll go watch it now.

In my eyes, they have more similarities than differences. The only difference is that Beyonce can sing. wtf 1st week sales have to do with anything. Rhianna’s GGGB sold 180,000 1st week debut at # 2 behind T Pain, but she end up as the best selling artist who release album in 2007 with 6 million worldwide. If you have good songs on the album, the album can still sell a lot. Rihanna still selling over 20,000 a week after almost 20 months. I don’t think that 500,000 beyonce sold includes digital download.

@ 2:17pm I have seen Alicia in concert and she does not sit at the piano for 2 hrs singing, believe that! She gets up and dances too. You shoulda seen her on her last US tour, if you didn’t. She can dance and work the stage! One of the best concerts I have ever been to.
She a great performer, but the only reason she’s on top is because everyone else isnt that great at performing!! I bet if these companies would actually prep some of these artists they to can perform at her level. ( I really dont think Rihanna is is allowed or encouraged to actually perform that would be too much competition for bey). I like them both.

I agree with MrsJones . . . first off, Sasha is not new . . . it's simply a safe haven that gives her the confidence she needs to show her ass on stage . . . she is just doing something different and bringing both sides together to say I am Sasha Fierce . . . as far as the glove, I think is has been blown out of proportion and hopefully she will remove it to symbolize that the gloves are off . . . as far as the first week records sales being 482,000 . . . it was still #1 and that counts for something . . . you guys are forgeting that it has been 2 years since she dropped an album. To compare her to MJB and A. Keys is unnecessary, all 3 women are great in there own right . . . not to mention they are constantly competing for the same awards . . . I have seen A. Keys in concert and that was a hell of a show . . . she doesn't just sit behind the piano, she entertains you . . . promotion is something that is major and she does do mad promo, but she is a major part of the promo for Cadiallac Records . . . which she only has a small part in towards the end of the movie . . . but she is such a huge name, they are counting on that and her fans to go see the movie, hence the reason she sings At Last everyway . . . killing two birds with one stone . . . the girl is talented and to take that away from her to uplift another artist is uncalled for . . . MJB is the Queen of R & B, so she has made her place in the industry and some refer to her as an icon . . . you guys even put Rihanna in this . . . she does not belong in the same category as the three women at all . . . there are enough fans for them all

so, which source is real, and which isn’t?? And Btw the economy isn’t the greatest right now, so we will see what happens. But she basically debuted at Gold. which is good, when sadly, her girls of DC3 and her sister can’t barely make gold, which is crazy. Michelle and Kelly had really great albums, and it saddens me they didn’t get the proper treatment or promotion.
