R&B star Monica took to the stage at the 2009 BET Honours, which aired last night. The 29 year old performed ‘Not Gon’ Cry’ as a tribute to Mary J. Blige. The few off-notes aside, this was an awesome performance. Monica really captured the emotion in the song, which to-date still stands as one of my all-time favourite Mary cuts. Fantastic performance.

I PERSONALLY DIDN’T NOT LIKE THIS PEFORMANCE FROM HER IS WAS TERRIBLE. SHE WAS DOING TO MUCH. ALL THAT EXTRA S*** SHE WAS DOING WAS JUST IRRELEVANT. SHE COULD HAVE DONE BETTER.
Preacher Monica…I liked how she was talking to Mary & the crowd..showing that it was more than just singing a tribute…It was showcasing what a true friend & mentor Mary J has been too Monica. She got emotional & u can see tears…all the jumping around…she was just hyped. Loved it!!

I’m a Monica fan but I did not like the performance at all . . .
Raw performance, she was a little rough on the vocals but I’ll let that slide because she just seemed to be overwhelmed with emotion.

only the endin was a little crazy BUT she defo got the essence of Mary J & MARY LOVED IT….
4 the most part Monica was on fire and i loved it.

Funnily enough Mary is quite known for her pitchyness in live performances so Mo had this locked down LOL….

I saw the crowd give Monica a standing ovation so i know she got it right with that performance.
Live is rarely perfect unless you do what Keyshia Cole did with her performance on the show be safe and unspectacular.
09 is lookin like a great musical year so i hope it turns out that way. Yolanda Adams & Joss Stone did their thang too.

monica was EVERYTHING, she tapped into to mary and became her, she wasnt performing as monica, she hAd mary’s raw edge vocally, look wise, and emotionally, i give her straight 10’s
