Mariah Picks 3rd Single; Readies Remix Album

Despite the fact her new album ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel’ looks set to debut with the lowest first week sales of her career, Mariah Carey is wasting no time in prepping the record’s next single – as well as remix version of ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.

According to the uber reliable Mariah Daily, the diva is lining up fan favourite ‘H.A.T.E U’ as the record’s 3rd single. What’s more she is also set to release a more up-tempo revision of ‘Memoirs’, as per our good friends over Rap-Up.com:

Fans who picked up Mariah Carey’s latest Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel most likely noticed the absence of features, but the singer is about to make up for it. Tricky Stewart and Trey Songz spill details exclusively to Rap-Up.com on Carey’s top-secret remix album.

Details are slowly emerging about the project, which will include remixes to every song on Memoirs. “There’s gonna be remixes to everything,” says Tricky. “I’m actually doing some remixing myself currently ’cause some of these records were so much fun to make. It’s easy to go in and do a remix.”

The mega-producer already has something in mind for the diva’s Foreigner cover. “I’m gonna do a remix to ‘I Want to Know What Love Is’ myself. I’mma raise the tempo up. I’mma try to make it into something else.”

He may even add a guest to it. “Once I get the beat and if it calls for the right person, I can get anybody on the phone I want to right now, so I will be using my Rolodex for that.”

One of the featured artists on the new project will be Trey Songz, who exclusively discloses to Rap-Up.com that he recorded a remix to one of Memoirs‘ cuts last month. “Mariah Carey, I believe she’s doing a remix album and I’m on a record entitled ‘Inseparable,'” he shares.

Trey put everything aside once he got the call. “I actually only had a day to do it. I did it on my day off. [They were] very professional, very adamant on wanting to get it done. They made sure we had all we needed. I just went in and got it done.” {Source}

Yawn. With the album now trailing behind even further and looking at a #3 debut, it’s doubtful the decent-yet-not-radio-friendly ‘H.A.T.E U’ will be album to salvage the album in its current form. That said, I am eager to see what she serves up with the remix LP.

Your thoughts?

“HATE U” is the smartest move for them to make right now! Though “I Want to Know What Love Is” is a beautiful song, I don’t think it’s the right choice for America. As an international single I can understand that, but not for her next American single.

Everyone I know loves “HATE U” and I’m beyond glad to hear it’s getting the single treatment!

I was at her show last night in Tribeca when she announced that this was the next single and everyone was ecstatic…..Mariah even said herself it’s her favorite single on the album! Can’t wait for the video!

I’m sorry but HATE U is another single that want make the album push she should release it’s a WRAP one of the best songs on the album…that’s what we want from Mariah a real song, not a song we have to listen to that’s starts off by getting nowhere until the middle of the song .

oh mariah.. whats happened.. i still love u tho… somebody.. anybody… help her.. clive davis.. are u listening? HELP!

Ok so she had low first week sales figures but that don’t mean the album is not good….. huge sales don’t mean the music is the best. I am a massive Mariah fan and have been for about 19 years now… I live in the UK and I got the album on import and I love it!!! H.A.T.E U is an awesome track with good vocals and a good choice for a third single in my opnion. As for the remix album I think why not? what does she have to lose or for that matter what the hell does Mariah have to prove?!!!!! In recent interviews she has stated that she wants to start a family so I think she will be taking time out very soon anyways. She makes music for herself and her true fans 🙂

Mariah can’t win these days…. what do people really want from her? she does ballads and gets pulled apart, she does fun and upbeat and again ripped to shreds!!! she is a legend and icon and has inspired a whole generation of singers. She makes music now that she enjoys and puts herself into the songs like any other TRUE artist does. Mariah is not your run of mill diva, she writes and produces her own stuff, she is not a puppet… as with the remix album she knows what she is doing. She is giving the REAL FANS what they want. Her new album is really good. It’s a decent rnb album that doesn’t follow trends or try to be cool…. it’s just Mariah.

I am looking forward to the remixes, she also does good remixes and changes the tracks up well. As for the lowest sales figures thing who cares? at the end of the day Memoirs is a good solid rnb album. E=MC2 did sale loads more in the first week but then sales started to trail off. Do not count Mariah out just yet. There are some good cuts on this new cd such as h.a.t.e u and it’s a wrap also angels cry a track which I think she delivers well vocally. I doubt Mariah is worried 🙂

I LOVE THE ALBUM!!! Some good tracks.. HATEU is a good move but she also needs to release ANGELS CRY..that is deff a #1 hit. So pick the right singls Mariah!!!

    F*** u sam. 🙂

yawn in someone else’s face, betch.

  11. King October 6, 2009

She ain’t got to prove nothing she could sell one album but she still the great Mariah Carey. Plus i’m sure the numbers aren’t bothering her, with all the endorsement money she already got for the mini magazine in her albums. She’s already paid for the album.

to start your blog with ‘yawn’ is slightly harsh I feel…. I know that’s your opinion and you clearly don’t care but there are people that go on this site that believe it or not are Mariah fans and want to read your news about her. Yes the first week sales are low but it’s still a top 5 album for a woman who has been going strong for nearly 20 years. Lets give the album a chance it has been out for a week for god sake and is still to released in other major markets such as the UK. The right single and video may just save it. Real fans such as myself will love the album for casual fans it may be grower. I mean obsessed is still in the chart and still selling fairly well. so the right song may just take Mariah to number one again. LETS NOT COUNT HER OUT JUST YET EH!!!!

no.3 is not bad, they r doing well relising the 3rd as soon as possible it will boost sales. hope the album goes platinum(it has a pontential to). and all those who said mariah was gonna sell more dan whitney…lmao. i told u whitney is the bigger diva between the 2.

Stop comparing Mariah and Whitney. It is unfair to compare the albums. Whitney’s was a comeback!!! her first new material in 7 years…. the fans were all waiting to lap it up. I am a huge Mariah and Whitney fan….. I own both albums. I live in the uk and imported them both as I didn’t want to wait. I feel (as a fan) Whitney has been through a lot and the strong sales are mostly due to the fact that we all like a happy ending and she deserves to be back on top again. Lets remember Mariah had the same moment in 2005 with Emencipation, after a breakdown and a few low selling albums she was back on top again. I think the Memoirs album has life in it yet… it will be a slow burner.

  15. Anonymous October 7, 2009

they were low sales but all other new albums didin’t exactly out sell her by much so it was a bad week for music sales in general. Yes she should have gone number one but I don’t think this means her career is over somehow. She will survive. She just needs to pick the right single and get some good better promo in. She has some sell out dates in Vegas coming uo I believe.

I think a remix album is a good idea, it will give the songs a diffrent vibe. The album is awesome her best for ages. Low sales happen to every popular artist in music history you can’t get huge numbers everytime… I just wish this album got e=mc2 first week numbers as it is(in my opnion) much better. I’m guessing Mariah isn’t worried she has a lot of other stuff going on such as films, perfume and the possibilty of starting a family….

Sam, I am starting to think “Obsessed” is about you.

    “You on yo’ job,
    You hatin’ hard
But I ain’t gon’ feed ya
    Imma let you starve.”

Mmhmm. Sounds like it is just about YOU.

    YAWN… Oh, is this that Sam’s blog…? Ummm… YAWN… Anything new here…?
    YAWN… Not? I thought so…
    YAWN… YAWN… YAWN…

Mariah’s new album is great. Of course, it’s not for the masses. They know nothin’ about that… They listen to Miley, BEP and all that crap…
This album is conceptual. Like was “Glitter”… And “Glitter” is an awesome album too! I love it a lot!

And I knew it that there would be something like a “Memoirs” pt. 2 CD cuz there were some hints for that – the absence of JD and Timbaland songs, and “100%” and “Imperfect” and when Mariah said that they had somethin’ “special planned for the fans”… That’s when I though that there might be somethin’… 🙂 I really can’t wait for this “Memoirs” pt.2 CD!!! :)))

And “H.A.T.E.U.” is one of the best on the “Memoirs”. I’m so happy that it would be the next single. I wanted it to be the 2-nd one but… whatever… :)))

These lambs are hilarious!!! Now that Mariah has low first week sales and debuts at #3 it’s not that bad, but when other artists outsell that number and debut at #1, it’s still a flop…give me a break! BTW, I like the cd, but fair is fair. But I bet LA Reid wont do to Mariah what he did to Janet. With IDJ’s track record, Mariah should just move on to another label.

  21. parisian girl October 7, 2009

poor mariah,i love HATEU but i i think it will fop too especially in europe…

  22. Tiger44 October 7, 2009

U fans are sick the album is not that good as u people claim it to b its quite boring and i like mimi but she need to give it a rest…

  23. Anonymous October 7, 2009

Janet left def jam as she wasn’t happy. Mariah is at the end of her contract with def jam anyways I think so she may move on to a new label and management etc….. I think the remix album will be her last for a while tho as she will be having babies soon. We shouldn’t call anything a flop after just one week in my opnion. Albums sales have been known to pick up with the right single in the past. Janet should have got to realise more material but they cut her budget. I doubt this will happen to Mariah. We should be routing for our the big acts to do well not pulling em down

  24. Anonymous October 7, 2009

I think the album is a huge grower, at first I thought it was too slow but I’m really getting into a lot of the tracks. I think HATEU should have been the second single, instead of the Foreigner cover. HATEU actually has potential to be a big hit, but may be hurt by being the “3rd single” instead of being the second/lead single like the last one.

A remix/uptempo album excites me too.

I think you need to give more credit to this album Sam. Regardless of sales – which, being a Janet/Whitney fan, you shouldn’t really care about – this is good music, some of Mariah’s most consistent work (despite being too long by about 4-5 songs).

  25. Anonymous October 7, 2009

oh and Sam, you’re gonna hate to hear this, but Memoirs sounds so much better than the Whitney album. Seriously, aside from TWO tracks (million dolla bill and “for the lovers”), the Whitney album is the very definition of YAWN. It’s pure sleeping music.

  26. robbie October 8, 2009

mariah’s albulm sucks!!! it is very depressing to listen to. you can tell that she just put sometyhing out there hoping it would get attention for people to buy a remix. it is her WORST albulm ever and the only albulm i have trulu regretted buying this year!!!!!! SUCKS WITH A CAPITOL S
