Rihanna On The Set Of New Video (+ Site Update)

If you were wondering what in the hell was going on with That Grape Juice over the last few days, I return from a trip out to several messages telling me the site was down. I check my mailbox only to see a copyright claim from the RIAA for posting Beyonce’s ‘I Am… Yours’ DVD cover…not even a song/MP3! To say I was not impressed would be an understatement. Not knowing exactly where to point my finger as to the origin of the complaint, all I will say is that, after all the promo/good vibes we throw Bouncy’s way, this wasn’t the best way to pay us back, was it?! We still love her! Stay tuned to That Grape Juice in the coming week for some big surprises (Hint: you may hit us up one day and notice  some major changes…so excited!)

So moving from one talented artist to one who arguably lacks it altogether, check out these snaps of Rihanna on the video set of her as yet  untitled new single (which premieres on Monday 20th October). Not feeling ol’ Billy-Goat’s look at all. The blonde streaks and eye patch reek of contrived-ness. I’m fine with gimmicks as long as there is talent to back it up once it all fades (see: Lady GaGa), but Ms. Fenty’s brand of caca, I cannot get down with. No maam.

  3. SteevieFantastic October 17, 2009

wtf? I believe Sam gives credit where credit is due. Rihanna has NO credit. She’s not talented and only gets by on her looks and her (stylists) sense of style.
Come off it man. You’ve been blinded(and deafended) by this girl’s beauty.

    She can’t sing and it’s a fact.
She’d make an AMAZING model…but singing is not her forte and i think Sam is just keeping it real unlike other blogs who kiss ass.

Keep up the good work sam!!

Also to TM, learn to write in correct grammar got damn. Had to read that 3 times to know what you were talking about.

  5. Dawon October 17, 2009

You know what Sam I so agree with you on Rihanna, I’m so sick of gimmick artist getting the spotlight…I’m so over her! (I CANT WAIT UNTIL U TAKE HER OFF THE TOP OF THE PAGE AND PUT BOUNCY (LOL) UP THERE)

I don’t know why RIAA is tripping over the Beyonce I AM Yours photos, it’s not like there all over the internet anyways! Still love Beyonce cause it’s not her fault. It’s her crazy camp.

  6. Non October 17, 2009

As far as Im concerned Rihanna shouldn’t have never been put on the top of the page. Everyone has some sort of talent up there except her…

    Mariah Carey = Amazing Singer
Chris Brown = ok singer, great dancer
Ciara = great dancer, good performer
Kayne = good rapper, writes and produces
Usher = good singer & dancer
Michael Jackson = good singer, dancer, songwriter, etc…
Rihanna = nice clothes, pretty girl

    Like WTF?!?!!?

  9. whatever October 17, 2009

sam when it comes to rihanna you have the best posts..they are hilarious but on point..you dnt lie and tell it like it is..i am so sick of this caca…she has no talent and personally i cannot stand her…

keep up the good work and its so sad about bouncys people..you are back up and that is all that matters…keep on being real and 99% of the time, u take the words right out of my mouth…

  10. rightround October 17, 2009

fuuunny! i think the day we find out what rihanna’s talent on this earth is, is the day she quits music and MODELS.

she looks UGLY in the last pic. she’s normally pretty tho.

  11. Anonymous October 17, 2009

WOW you Beyonce stans really are mad ya girl Rihanna is strong enough to go up against Beyonce in terms of Iconic status. Rihanna IS indeed a fahion icon BUT she makes great music with the voice she is given. ALso, the girl is on pitch with good vocal technique therefore by definition she can sing. YOU may not particularly care for her vocal tone or styling but that is your opinion. Clearly some folk llove her singing so get over yourself. Heck you all act like its Beyonce music alone that makes her hot….ummm noooooo lol its her force feeding it plus her live performances of it. Rihanna has the same approach she force feeds us and makes GREAT videos. (she stays consistant with the hot videos)

  12. Alfie October 17, 2009

Rihanna is important to our culture because she is a beautiful black fashion icon. black people have this identity crisis and rihanna is a strong influence. how many black cover girls are there? how many black women grace italian vogue? she plays with her sound u cant knowck her hustle. and she worked hard for it.

  13. rightround October 17, 2009

^^@ the last two comments. EXACTLY. y’all have proven everyone’s point, including Sam’s. she should quit trying to sing and go MODEL. being a “fashion icon” and gracing Italian Vogue? damn I mean it sounds like she’s a model already.

  14. Tired October 17, 2009

How does sam have the best Rihanna posts? It’s the same tired joke each time (billy goat with no talent). I could care less how you feel about Rihanna, but do you honestly have to post everything she does so you can call her a billy goat again? I’d much rather see more music and your thoughts on it.. maybe:
*Toni’s duet remix with Trey Songz
    *Ledisi
*TDK (Tamia, Deborah C**, and Kelly Price = 3 women of substance that can sing circles around Ciara, Keisha Buchannan and Kelly Rowland)

Anything would be more interesting than another lame post with your thoughts on Rihanna. I still keep reading, but I’m not sure for how much longer.

I LOVE how Beyonce’s team knocked your whole site out of commission and Rihanna’s team prolly doesn’t even know you exist! LOLOL the irony, huh?

Sam, if you are going to talk about Rihanna some more, at least think of something NEW to say. Seriously, your Rihanna posts are cut and paste complaints with new pictures. Get it together hun.

Also, if she is such a dreadful artist, why not cover other artists that your audience is interested in. Or is that too hard for you to know since you are on the wrong continent?

If you really want good Urban American music info, go to an American blog site. The news is updated faster and has MORE info and less complaints about the same artists. for example, concreteloop.com will give it to you.

  17. mis. October 17, 2009

She looks LIKE A FOOL! honey you’re not that cool! sit yo ass down you famewhore!

  18. Dawon October 17, 2009

The Rihanna fans are whining because people are seeing the truth about her…She’s only good for a picture..everything else sucks!

  19. Lee October 17, 2009

Only thing good about Rihanna is fashion and being a w****….She wears see through clothes with no undergarments on, has naked leaked photos, has been linked to 5+ individuals since Chris Brown…She’s nothing but a talentless hood-rat!

  22. Sad Day October 17, 2009

you know to all of the Rhi Rhi fans in the world you must remember that every time an artist is threatening to be the number one artist in the world, the fans of the previous artist who held that spot are often upset. The tragedy is there is so much room for all of these artist. Just because you love Beyonce doesn’t mean you have to hate Rihanna, thats rediculous!!!! The bottom line is Rihanna is going to continue to eclipse the rest because it is simply her time and when its your time, no one can stop you. Talent is never the issue. I mean less be realistic we act like Brittany Spears, Janet Jackson, MADONNA AND TLC were all of that vocally. No, they were not but the reality is they gave the fans (some longer than others ) what they wanted and it is what it is. There will be some other new person who will come out soon for us to hate on but for now it will remain RHIANNA and she well undoubtably eclipse every artist that is out now. Its her time and that is simply all there is to it. I will never hate on women or men of color doing there thing especially since its not that many that makes it to the top of the music game like Rihanna and Beyonce. Get over your selves people and recognizes that they are beautiful women who by way of talent, circumstance, marketing, beauty, style, drama, body, music, videos or a little bit of all….they are here to stay!

And how come people “started” to see the truth if she didn’t do anything for so long? stupid stupid stupid

  24. lilly October 17, 2009

also, tell that to evry single number 1 she had last year. i’ll see you when her music reaches #1 again and you and sam start hating. It’s so fun to whatch you idiots

  25. bobs October 17, 2009

I love her stuff. I love her voice – and she’s got her own identity. Her voice and music connect with many people. At least she has a voice, too. I mean, see Whitney Houston and her crack scorched nightmare. I’m loving Riri. I’m foaming at the mouth for this single release!

  26. number1k9 October 17, 2009

I agree, that I would like to see some more posts on a wider view of artists Sam, I do kinda feel like I hear a ton of stuff about Kelly Rowland (which I understand since u r a open stan), Beyonce, Rihanna, Sugababes, The Saturdays, and Mariah Carey.

But the reason why I do come back to your site is because I do like hearing your opinion and also every other person that comments. I find the ThatGrapeJuice comment sections are always more interesting than ConcreteLoop’s section. Though CL does offer a wider range that’s reported.

SPEAKING OF WHICH: Sam, can you add a number count to the comments, so it makes it easier to respond to fellow commenters??? PLEASE and thank you!

AS FOR RIHANNA: I’m not going to lie,
1)I am not the biggest Rihanna fan, no where near a stan
    2) But I AM awaiting this single release and the album for that matter-been wanting some Rih music ironically since the summer!
    3) I do think Rihanna’s album will debut above Beyonce & Gaga’s re-releases, Britney’s collection, and Timbaland’s album!
    4) It would have been nice to NOT see Rihanna daily walking streets (while she didn’t have music out being promoted)-it got old, and still does!
    5) Vocally Rihanna isn’t too strong, but she does sing on tracks that are catchy. Whether you like her, her voice, or not, so don’t hate on her because she is rising up the charts.

Yes… I could go on, but I think I’ve made the general point of my post CLEAR, thanks!

  27. ROBIN October 17, 2009

Yo! Everybody needs to calm down wit calling Rihanna a “fashion icon”. Whoa! Whoa! Like for reals, what is everyone’s problem. She dresses decently and interestingly, which doesn’t equal icon of any sort. Fashion icon = Coco chanel, Grace Jones, Karl Lagerfeld, etc. She is not on that level yet. And for real ya’ll, she’s not a talented musician, just get over it!!! It’s OK though, I mean Britney got hers, Rihanna will be a Britney (minus the dancing skills); she can not be Beyonce, Alicia, Michael,Whitney, etc. That’s fine tho, Rihanna is her own type of entertainer. These are facts, not opinions.

  28. Kellie Marie October 17, 2009

To Robin– Sweetie it soooooo obvious that you have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to fashion. While Rihanna is not an icon yet, she has the makings to be one because she is backed and dressed by some of the most powerful people in fashion right now. Coco Chanel became an icon more for her business sense than her actual designs. Grace Jones is much like Rihanna at present; she had little part in dressing herself. And Lagerfeld (way to name drop one of the most notorious and overhyped names in fashion) himself has called Rihanna a personal muse. Not many fashion icons (minus designers) are a huge part of their icon status, rather they are an advertisement for the labels and fashion houses that make their clothes, give them to said icon for free press and recognition, and solidify their status. Now run along in your Rocawear hoodie and Babyphat jeans and think twice before you try to comment on fashion again.

  29. haila October 17, 2009

She is getting just as bad as Beyallboutme in showing her ‘talent’ to the world. My goodness…..don’t women cover up anymore?

I like Rihanna. I think she makes nice pop songs. I am excited to hear her new song. I just want to add that I do not agree with a previous poster that said Blacks have an identity crisis (a generalize statement). Every race has people with low self-esteem. 🙂

Rhianna and Beyonce will never be on the same level

BEYONCE>>>>>>>>RHIANNA…… and lets not forget Rhainna looks up to Beyonce

  37. whystillinbusiness October 19, 2009

I really want to know what a fashion Icon is because everything Rihanna has done she has copied from someone else, so I dont get this fashion Icon coming from her…She’s by no means original and we cant even say different cause the other bald head woman and not Amber did it, Fefe did it first, then even after Amber Rose hit the scene she did something first before Rihanna and y’all wanna make Rihanna a fashion Icon? Stop giving this girl credit for someone else..

  38. Vicky October 19, 2009

    @ Alfie on 17 Oct 2009 at 10:20 am #

It has nothing do with race or Black culture, people who know talent, know Rihanna is highly overrated, you can say Beyonce is a great influence but to say Rihanna is, is just shocking.

One thing Beyonce has is talent, I can’t say the same for Rihanna, she may have catchy songs and a good wardrobe but that doesn’t mean she be on top of the game forever and people won’t get fed up with her. Her time is ticking, many people want to hear less and see less of her not more.

She’s milked herself out too much for an artist who has only been in the biz for four years, she’s a gimmick and her music has no substance, anyone with not great vocals or even a great singer, could take on a Rihanna song and probably sing it better.

She’s no vocalist, just a prime example to show of today’s artist that don’t have to be vocally talented to get far, that’s why the charts are full of rubbish these days, sad shame.

  39. Robin October 20, 2009

To that heffa Kelly Marie- If you read what I stated, I said that Rihanna is not an icon YET. I know damn well she is on her way- she has access, power, and influence. I’m just saying people need to calm down and let the status come rather than force it upon her. And as far as Grace Jones, Coco Chanel, and Karl Lagerfeld they are fashion icons, because once you think about any aspect of the fashion industry they are some of the most prominent names that come up. Whether they had an active role in obtaining that status is not the matter; it is that their images have become synonymous with daring and innovative fashion. Lastly, Karl Lagerfeld= overhyped? I myself do not prefer Mr. Lagerfeld’s work much of the time, but I do recognize that that man has carried the house of Chanel to impressive heights of fame and fortune and has done some pretty amazing designs for Fendi. Now when you do that let’s see if you or anyone else considers your contributions overhyped. Give props where it is do. The Rocawear/Babyphat comment…. wow, you don’t even know me but feel the need to belittle my supposed wardrobe? For your information, I have never worn any Babyphat item nor do I own a Rocawear hoodie. And even if I did why would that make me less of dresser than anyone else? What does that say about yourself and your assumptions of people? My conclusion: you are a pompous, ignorant jack***. Have a nice day.
