Gaga is definitely turning things up – but I don’t think it’s fair to call Rihanna a contemporary. Rihanna has been around for quite a while now and left her mark in her time.
Also – Gaga’s entire image and sound is manufactured. Evidence of this shows in her earliest work (The Stefani Germanota Band). What she needs to do to keep her roller coaster going is to continue staying on our minds – and soon her fashion choices won’t phase us in the way they used to.
I think we’ll have to see what Christina Aguilera does with her work. Is she gonna drop the ball or slap Gaga in the face?

As for Britney…….. I am a fan of Britney’s and IMO Britney probably doesn’t get respect from the public because we all don’t know what goes on behind the scenes. @ Jeemzy No gaga also is a trained musician as well. I am speaking as someone who up until a few months ago thought she was a talentless hack basically Rihanna 2.0. I had a hard time getting pass her gimmicks until a friend showed me a video of her doing Poker face on the piano. Just her and the piano. I was truly impressed.
I think her piano skills are far superior to those of Alicia Keys. She was accepted into the NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Tisch school of music has the most selective undergraduate program in the the nation and highly ranked. She entered @ 17 and at 11 had the opportunity to enter the Julliard School (the have a development program).
While her current music is pop/dance, I know from her musical training she can and will bring us more. The woman has composes at least 2 different versions of her. Again right now her music is dance/pop/electro. That doens’t mean she won’t come with something else for the next album. The chic has only been out less than 2 years.
Funny the same stuff detractors say about GaGa is the same s*** people said about Madonna. However madonna was a trained dancer and not musician. That’s where GaGa differs.

Just because someone is musically trained doesn’t make them a great artist, or more specifically, a good composer. Jimi Hendrix wasn’t musically trained, but HE was a prodigy. I’ve heard and seen better vocalists and pianists at local dive bars.Gaga has yet to demonstrate anything near prodigy, or anything near original, as a musician or songwriter. She can play her instrument well, and she can sing okay, but if she had IT as a vocalist or pianist she wouldn’t need to rely on the theatrics. And when she did market herself as a musician without all the bells and whistles and gay boys dancing around her, no one gave a f***. She doesn’t have the musical integrity of an artist like Sade or Lauryn Hill or Imogen Heap (there’s an effing prodigy) or even Celine Dione – the types of artist whose music and voice speak for themselves. And she never will. Gaga is the hype of the new moment, the new Katy Perry, and this year Ke$ha will be the new Gaga and then there will be someone else… deal with it.
