Video: Fantasia Graduates!

Published: Thursday 10th Jun 2010 by Sam

After her much publicised quest to secure her High School Diploma, R&B star Fantasia graduated earlier this week in her home-town of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Check out the footage after the jump…

While I’m sure there will be a juvenile set who poke fun, congratulations are most certainly in order for Fantasia! Her journey is undeniably an inspiring one. More power to her.

She didn’t graduate she got an honorary degree there is a difference. Why are people celebrating this? She should have done this years ago. Lets stop celebrating mediocrity. no one come say how hard her life was because people have been thru worse and still graduated high school and college. Yes she got r**** her first year in high school so she dropped out she could have got her GED then but instead her dumbass family decided to take her touring on the gospel circuit with them. Or she could have gotten her degree right after American idol but she waited until she had a reality show to do so.

  13. annette June 10, 2010

@BBOP. She did get her GED. Her school honored her by letting her walk with the graduation class BECAUSE she passed her GED. Her brother’s and aunt reported it on Twitter.

You talk about what she could have done sooner. What have YOU accomplished in the past 5 years that is comparable to what she has done.

  14. Bbop June 10, 2010

I graduated from college in the last 5 years and am currently working on my MBA. Fantasia could have done this years ago. Nothing she does is comparable to anything I do because unlike her I don’t make excuses for my mistake. This is not something to celebrate a high school diploma is expected. When she graduates college and stops acting like a fool most of the time then she can celebrate. Fantasia got this GED for her show for years she’s been talking abut how hard her life was and how she couldn’t finish high school but she never made the effort to get a GED. She is what 25? If she dropped out in the 9th grade she would have been 14 15 at the most. That is 10 years of her doing nothing about her education. Hell she could have received her GED while she was on American Idol or while touring with her family.

TO BBOP WHY ARE U HATER ON THE GURL THE THING SHE DO POSTIVE YA GOT SUMTHING 2 SAY I KNOW U GOIN LET HER CELEBRATE YA FANTASIA IF U READIN DIS LET THE HATER KNOW DAT THEY NOT HURTIN U THEY MOTIVATION CONGRATZ LUV U AND WILL SUPPORT U ALL THE WAY

  16. Denny June 10, 2010

The celebration is not about her graduating from HS or getting her GED. The celebration is that despite her success, she decided to make education a priority. I am sure she was afraid, after all these years, to put herself out there and graduate. She could have just used her career as an excuse and a crutch. She has money and she could choose to continue to devalue education. So I celebrate her determination to complete her HS education and set an example that it is never to late to finish what you started. She made a bad choice, whatever the reason, not finishing school was a bad choice. But she did not allow her story to end there. I hope she IS proud of herself and will continue to be an inspiration for others in her situations and to all those who just need to keep going when life gets hard.

BBOP…Do you know the amount of people who are dropping out of school. She’s one of millions of people who have left school for various reasons. Her story is one that will hopefully help inspire those who dropped out. For people like you who have a degree, doesn’t mean you get to tarnish someone else’s accomplishment. Congrats to Fantasia for finishing something she started. Hopefully it motivates other people to finish.

  18. Bbop June 10, 2010

I’m not tarnishing her accomplishments I’m questioning her motives. I disagree that she made education a priority. It seemed to be an afterthought or something she could use to gain sympathy.

  19. Tendaji June 10, 2010

Most people, not all, but most people get education and degrees for money and status. She had both. There are very few actual scholars who learn because they love to learn. You’re getting an MBA which I’m sure you are hoping grants you a better pay check and opens more opportunities for yourself. Maybe your gift is in education, but hers is in the gift of song and inspiration and thats what she’s been doing. She doesn’t need anyones sympathy that was the point of overcoming her past by getting the thing she turned away from after being r**** and then abused in a relationship. She has lived the life of so many people and the Creator is using her as an example to inspire and uplift people who thought it was over for them. Again Congrats Tasia!!

The news report says she was “given” an HONORARY degree. She didn’t EARN her GED YET.

So she’s still where she was…in my mind.

  24. DAZNIELLE (THE BAHAMAS June 11, 2010

CONGRADZ I KNOW ITS A BIG STEP FOR YOU AND YOUR FAM JUST TAKE IYOUR TIME YOULL GET THROUGHT IT

    !! KEEP YOUR HEAD UP

  25. DW Mak Movz June 13, 2010

    You go head Fantasia!!!!

@ BBOP it don’t matter why it took her so long she did it while taking care of her entire immediate family… And I can bet that you are not holding down as many ppl as she is being the only income and taking care of her family was 1st priority..

I got my GED and then went on to get my BA in psychology and I am working on my MAPA and I am far older than Fantasia. But I had to be a mother first and hold my family down and I took care of myself last. When you have never had anyone depending on you for nothing you can make wise comments about ish…. But trust if you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes you would be able to relate.

Again Tasia Congratz and keep making it rain on these fools!!!!
