Following the shocking news of Fantasia‘s reported suicide attempt earlier today, the singer’s manager has released a formal statement addressing the events, as well as her much-talked about relationship with Antwaun Cook.

Fantasia has always been an open book. Honesty, self-respect, and personal responsibility are values she wears proudly.
Fantasia believed Mr. Cook when he told her he was not happy in his marriage and his heart was not in it. She believed him when he told her he and Mrs. Cook separated in the late summer of 2009. She believed Mr. Cook when he told her he lived elsewhere.
He even took her there. One of Mr. Cook’s most redeeming qualities was his complete devotion to his children. Fantasia fell in love with Mr. Cook and believed that he loved her.
Fantasia and Mr. Cook dated on and off for about eleven months. The pressure of the constant media attention was hard on their relationship. Fantasia gave inconsistent interviews about the status of her relationship with Mr. Cook because sometimes they were on and sometimes they were off.
When they were on, they spent most of their time together when she was not traveling with work.
Fantasia read Mrs. Cook’s Complaint against Mr. Cook for the first time yesterday. She knows some of the allegations in Mrs. Cook’s complaint are totally false. There are others she strongly doubts. There is plenty she does not know.Fantasia is heartbroken and is sorry for any pain she may have caused.
Yesterday, she was totally overwhelmed by the lawsuit and the media attention. Last night, Fantasia was hospitalized. She took an overdose of aspirin and a sleep aid.
Her injuries are not life threatening. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time. Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon. Fantasia is a fighter and a survivor. This is not the hardest thing Fantasia has endured.
Fantasia will be stronger, smarter, and better for it. Her work has always inspired her and served as a source of strength. Her new album, “Back To Me,” will be released on August 24th.

Yeah… mentioning her album release date in the statement, is just… not classy. I mean, the poor woman nearly died, that is NOT the time to try and sneak in any kind of promotion when making a press announcement about her near-death experience.

I have been a Fantasia supporter since Idol. I have all her albums up to date (paid copies). But I don’t see how ppl don’t see straight through all this media hype with all of these celebs. This is pure “sympathy” publicity…Her album comes out in 2 weeks and this is the type of hype needed to get the masses attention (whether it works or not). I apologize to her and her family if I’m wrong b/c I’ve had someone close to my family who has failed victim to it, but if she is so strong as the manager is saying this divorce scandal would not had come close to breaking her! Just my opinion w/ the story that has been giving to us thus far. If she did attempt sucide it could not had been b/c of this, she’s been called worse in her short career then a “home-wrecker” and there has been no reports of attempted sucide. Your advice would’ve served Fantasia well this time last year, when she went around harassing the wife and claiming that her husband now belongs to her. Now only is her health suffering but her career seems to be on life-support. #ITSKARMABITCHE
I’m glad she’ doing well and hope that she and her family get through this peacefully.
But on another note, mentioning the album’s release date doesn’t help the case of seeking attention or removing attention from the “other” issue at hand.

This is just all together crazy. Still wish her the best though.
Everybody makes mistates. That’s why they say your first mistate is your greatest. You learn from you first mistate and never make that same mistate again. People no matter who will not forgive you because people hatin on you never do. So Fanny what ever happened hold your head up and learn to be a much wiser women and leave those married men alone.
