Triumph in the face of adversity. Snubbed by Radio 1, vilified online for this song yet achieved # 1 anyway, and possibly for 2nd week.. Alex is popular and well liked and I for one wish her all success. You go Girl, prove the doubters wrong.

i’d rather have a new cd enough with this rerelease biz

  7. FUTURESTARdelux September 14, 2010

ARE PEOPLE SERIOUSLY GONNA BUY IT AGAIN FOR JUST 3 MORE TRACKS? O_O

I LIKE HER AND SHE’S GOOD BUT WHY ARE YOU HYPING HER TO THE AMERICANS LIKE SHE’S THE BIGGEST THING IN THE UK? HER ALBUM IS ONLY PLATINUM WHILE FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE’S ALBUM “LUNGS” HAS GONE 4X PLATINUM AND BEEN CERTIFIED IN OTHER COUNTRIS TOO AND YOU DIDN’T EVEN POST HER VMA PERFORMANCE WHICH WAS IMO THE BEST OF THE NIGHT…. #FAIL

  8. Maryanne September 14, 2010

^^ her album has sold over 650,000. so u could say its Double Platinum, i hate it when people say she’s a flop, the fact that she has sold 2.4 million singles in the UK alone tells me she is far from a flop!!

  9. FUTURESTARdelux September 14, 2010

^^ I DON’T MEAN THAT SHE’S A FLOP AT ALL BUT SAM & TRENT GO ON LIKE SHE’S THE BIGGEST THING EVER WHEN SHE’S ONLY BIG IN BRITAIN & IRELAND ATM AND NOT THE BIGGEST EITHER ALTHOUGH I’M SURE SHE’LL KEEP GETTING BETTER.

FLORENCE HAS SOLD 1,200,000 IN THE UK ALONE AND IS STILL SELLING LIKE MAD, SHE’S WON A TON OF AWARDS AND SHUT THE VMA’S DOWN BUT THEY DON’T EVEN GIVE HER A MENTION.

  10. Maryanne September 14, 2010

^^ no i was not saying you were calling her a flop, i just hate it when people do!! Yeah, for me she is the best in the UK atm but thats just my opinion because i’m a massive fan. i cant wait too what she will do in the US i hope they will love her like we do!! 🙂

  11. Jay September 14, 2010

Futurestardelux find a Florence website and go and complain there.Alex is young and has acheived so much in the UK.America is not the centre of the world you should know that by now.
Will be buying love Ms Burke.
Alex fans please support Shontelle this week and download IMPOSSIBLE.

    @FUTURESTARdelux

I think you are on the wrong site if you want to read about Florence…. Alexandra Burke has done incredibly well – her and Florence are in completely different lanes. Florence and the Machine is spoken about/praised all the time in papers, adverts, award ceremonies. She is amazing and yes has had amazing success but that doesn’t mean that artists who have sold half of what she has don’t deserve credit, or that people are going to comment on her in every other article they write.

Go Alex! You shone on the X Factor, in the charts a year later and I can’t wait for you to shine in the US. Which hopefully won’t be too far away. UK is in it’s prime right now! SWU xx

  13. Dev September 14, 2010

Florence has sold so much because she is hyped, Elliie Golding was hyped and are played on various shows on various radio stations, whilst appearing at festivals. Alex has had nothing but stigma for winning the xfactor, even Aleshia Dixon gets invited to festivals and she hasn’t managed to maintain success. Granted, the majority of Alex’s music is crap, but she’s managed to succeed with hard work and genuine talent.

  14. Maryanne September 14, 2010

@Jay i have already Downloaded Impossible, hope it does well for her, love Shontelle 🙂

  15. callum September 14, 2010

as much as i want to had Alex (im a leona fan) i love some of her songs but her latest number 1 is trash, all night long should have been number 1 it was amazing but anyways ill still listen to some of her music

  16. callum September 14, 2010

as much as i want to hate*

  17. FUTURESTARdelux September 14, 2010

@JAY WHY WOULD I WANT TO GO FIND A FLORENCE WEBSITE? I’M NOT COMPLAINING BECAUSE THEY USUALLY DONT MENTION HER BECAUSE I KNOW SHE’S IN A DIFFERENT GENRE BUT SINCE SHE WAS AT THE VMA’S / IS BRITISH / HAS THE BIGGEST SELLING ALBUM IN BRITAIN OF 2009 & 2010 SO FAR I THOUGHT THEY COULD HAVE AT LEAST POSTED HER PERFORMANCE SINCE MOST PEOPLE (AMERICANS INCLUDED) HAVE SAID SHE GAVE ONE OF THE BEST PERFORMANCES OF THE NIGHT.

@DEV FLORENCE DIDN’T SELL SO MUCH BECAUSE OF HYPE SHE SOLD THAT MUCH BECAUSE OF TALLENT, ELLIE GOULDING HAD JUST AS MUCH HYPE BUT HAS ONLY GONE GOLD AND SOLD 160K IF ANYBODY HAD HYPE IT WAS ALEX WINNING A SHOW WATCHED BY LIKE 16M PEOPLE EVERY WEEK.

P.S I WOULD JUST LIKE TO REITERATE THAT I DON’T DISLIKE ALEX I THINK SHE’S GREAT ALTHOUGH HER NEW SINGLE IS TRASH No1 OR NOT.

  18. Dev September 14, 2010

There is a difference between hype, recognition and a talent show. The xfactor isn’t taken seriously and people frown upon the winners. The talk of Alex’s radio 1 snub is enough to show that. I’m not saying that florence isn’t talented but she gets more of the above than Alex.

  19. FUTURESTARdelux September 14, 2010

@DEV IT DEPENDS ON WHAT KIND OF HYPE YOU MEAN, FLORENCE RECIEVED A LOT OF HYPE FROM CRITICS ETC BUT FOR A LONG TIME THAT DIDN’T HELP HER TAKE OFF UNTIL SHE’D RELEASED A FEW SINGLES.
ALEX DIDN’T HAVE THAT MUCH HYPE FROM CRITICS BECAUSE HER MUSIC ISN’T ANYTHING NEW ALTHOUGH SHE DOES HER STUFF VERY WELL BUT SHE A LOT OF HYPE FROM THE PUBLIC WHICH IS MORE COMMERCIALLY BENEFICIAL IN MOST CASES.

  20. Kicktheeardrum September 15, 2010

she needs to come to the states? Do you agree?

  21. Samantha September 15, 2010

If I’m honest Alex’s radio 1 snub is more about personal dislike for Alex and not about her music (even though the last couple of singles really suck ass). For me Alex is the most sucessful (outside of Leona) simply because the public really were and are against her and even with really poor material she has managed to sell this album and some really poor singles just on the strength of her public performance and hard promo.

Good luck to her I say. The label probably wanted to sell as much as they could and call it a day but i get the feeling they’re surprised at how well Alex has done. It just might be what they needed to really take her seriously, give her some good material and some more vocal training.

  22. RWA September 15, 2010

    @SAMANTHA

I have to say it really does surprise me to hear people talk about the quality of her music with such a low opinion. I agree, Start Without You is more on the cheesy and less credible side, as catchy as it is. But the other singles have all been of great quality and relevance to today’s market. The same goes for Overcome, it’s of great relevance and contains music that the average consumer can enjoy from start to finish. If you listen to ‘The Silence’ you may change your mind about her needing additional vocal training. Don’t forget this is a young girl who was thrusted into the limelight with alot of pressure and alot of high expectations to meet, and for her debut record, I think she’s really done well. Now that she has built the foundation, I think that her sophomore LP will boast more edgier and credible material. Remember that young artists at this level of their career need room to grow.

  23. jazz September 15, 2010

    she is crap

  24. Brown Sugar September 15, 2010

I really expect that this time she will release good singles which will show to every body how a great singer she is
because “Start Without you” even if it’s UK number 1, is a s*** (sorry to say)

I like Alexandra, she killed me on X Factor, she killed me too with bad boys, and i was expecting a lot more
she had such poweful songs in her album,. such as Overcome, Gotta Go, The Silence
yes they are ballads, but she could have at least released one of them
