According to reports, FremantleMedia Limited, the company behind the format, moved to protect famous phrases closely associated with Simon Cowell as talk of a reboot gathered steam.
And there is paperwork to back up the chatter. An official UK Intellectual Property Office filing shows ‘It’s A Yes From Me’ was submitted for trademark protection by FremantleMedia in December 2025, well before this week’s comeback reports.
The development comes five years after TGJ reported that ITV had “no current plans” to revive the show, which last aired its regular series in 2018.
Should it return, viewers may not simply be getting the old show reheated.
Sources claim ideas being explored include greater TikTok and YouTube interaction, audience involvement in song choices, and a younger, socially savvy judging panel. RAYE, PinkPantheress, Yungblud, and former judge Cheryl Cole are among names reportedly being floated, while Cowell is expected to remain involved in some capacity.
At its peak, ‘The X Factor’ was appointment television and helped launch the likes of Leona Lewis, One Direction, Little Mix, and JLS.
Talk of a revival has circulated before, but filings, active negotiations, and apparent plans to modernize the format make this comeback chatter considerably louder.
