New Song: Trey Songz – ‘Runaway (Remix)’

Published: Thursday 4th Nov 2010 by Trent

Trey Songz has put his own spin on Kanye West’s ‘Runaway’. The song will be featured on his #Lemmeholdatbeat mixtape.

Songz’s latest album, ‘Passion, Pain & Pleasure’, has sold just over 450k since it’s September 14th release and has yet to achieve gold status. Listen to the song below:

How did Songz manage to turn West’s original version of this song into yet another sex record? This is just another example of how he uses almost every given opportunity to flex his unjustifiably large ego and prove his lust for women. Who is he trying to convince?

The fact his female fans continue to glorify him while he calls a woman a “bad ho” is a sign of the fickle  nature of the minds of today’s Urban youth. Thankfully, judging by Songz’s struggling album sales, those individuals are in the minority.

OMG O_o he only sold 450K…. since Spetember 14th ???? wow thats what u call a major FLOP!

  3. almostpia November 4, 2010

It’s cool…those who love him will like this! He will probably go gold by the end of 2010. I had to laugh at the sermon-esque end.

  4. luvlife November 4, 2010

He’s doing better than any R&B singer right now without going pop. Stop hating. He selling better than most.

  5. WHIPyaWIG November 4, 2010

Trey Songz should just STOP doin s** songs and WORK hard for like a few months! cuz what he’s been doin lately is pure B*******…

  6. WHIPyaWIG November 4, 2010

@LUVLIFE nobody’s is hatin. We are sayin the truth. he sold 45OK since september 14th and he hasnt gone gold yet : hats a flop. that is all. and the fact that he’s on top with only 450K sold albums only show how F***** UP this usic industry is. and ifchris brown didnt f***** up try wouldnt still b here. face the truth.

  7. WHIPyaWIG November 4, 2010

    thats* / music* / trey*

  8. Soulful Roses November 4, 2010

450K? All that smack Trey stans were talking on Twitter, and you mean to tell me, thats it? I cant…but I wouldn’t make a big deal out of it, Im sure he’ll go gold by time the year is out.

Oh, and the song is just okay…

  9. Robier November 4, 2010

SMH ‘MS. STEAL UR MAN’ IS HAVING PROBLEMS SELLING HER CD

  10. Katie November 4, 2010

Opening for Jay-Z, and now Usher, Kodac commercial, photo lay out, reality show etc. Still hasn’t gave him the superstar status they were expecting him to get. And that’s my opinion of him.

  11. ilikeme November 4, 2010

He’s not a superstar, but he is huge in R&B/ urban. He is outselling a lot of R&B acts. Monica is only gold. Fantasia isn’t selling as well. He is doing well in his genre. And no, he is not a flop. By the end of the month, he should be gold. Which is good for him. Also, being on three tours and commercials brought in alot of money for him, so stay mad. Shoot Bruno Mars isn’t even selling and he had the number one single in the counrty. His label donesn’t think he’s a flop. He’s also touring overseas next year. And if he had a comeup b/c on CBs situation, its his fault?

Anyway, the song is cool. I like the Aston Martin mix better. His mixtpes are usually very good though. Most of them are better than his albums.

Oh and congrats on “Can’t Be Friends” reaching number one on the R&B/Hip-hop charts today.

  12. kizzy2400 November 4, 2010

not his best remix i kinda like his version of aston martin music tho

  13. WHIPyaWIG November 4, 2010

@ILIKEME you’re delusionnal girl. his CB been out since september and he aint gold geez dont u get what dat means ? and nobody is mad ova here, just cuz we are aware of trey songz real statuse in the music industry does not make us HATERZ. and learn how to read a comment : IF CHRIS BROWN DIDNT F***** UP IN 2009 TREY SONG HAVE BEEN SO “big” . its a fact. trey was supposed to go GOLD in about 2-3 weeks after the coming out of his album, think about that girl. drake went platinium on his first week! and trey still aint gold afta one month?!!!!!! he’s a flop. that is all. but they aint gon drop him yet.

  14. gdhg November 4, 2010

  15. ilikeme November 4, 2010

    @WHIPyaWIG

Um Drake did not go plat in the first week. It took him months to go plat. And Drake is hip hip. And If you want to make a hip-hop comparison, Rick Ross the Trey have sold the same amount of albums, and when did Ross’s album come out? Is he a flop? And how do you know Trey’s predictions? You sound like a delusional CB stan. Who cares about him. Why do ppl always have to bring that up? So what? If Mario, Lloyd, or Bobby V were smart, they should have tried to come up too. And yes, you are hating on this mans success. Has his album dropped out of the top 15 yet? And no, he is not getting dropped anytime soon. Neither is BoB (who sold less), or anyone else on Atlantic. Like I said, no other non-pop R&B male artist is selling like him, not one. Usher and CB have gone Euro-pop, he hasn’t. Stay mad.

  16. VA STAND UP!! November 4, 2010

Ok…is anybody actually listening to the track or are they just basing their comments on what Trent said?? You know Trent is still salty about that interview with Trey and he stays throwing shade and being negative towards him! He can never give a positive comment when it comes to Trey and if he does, he follows it up with an insult. Just like with Rihanna! It gets old! What’s worse, it seems as if a lot of people are so gullible and they fall into the trap everytime! It’s like some of you base your opinions on a artist based on what bloggers say about them! SMH!

Trey only made one or two sexual references in the song, the whole song is NOT about s** and you would know that if you had actually listened to it!

FYI: Kanye made a sexual reference in the original song as well (“I sent a girl a picture of my d*ck”) and we know he has refered to a woman as a b*tch and h*e in his raps as well. Face it, there are sexual references in damn near every song on the radio these days especially in Hip Hop and r&b, and every rapper out there has used a deragatory name when refering to a woman!! Get over it!

Anywho, I like this one. He his thing on it. I like his remix to ‘Aston Martin Music’ as well, I like that one better than the original. His mixtapes are usually really hot, better than his albums. IMO.

450k isn’t bad for him, though Idoubt that he is going to go platinum on this one either. If he couldn’t go platinum on ‘Ready’ I can’t see it happening for “P,P,P’. *shrugs* It’s crazy cause his singles are doing so well, and he is touring with Usher, so I can’t understand why he can’t push more units. I am sure he would like to see Platinum status, but his career surely isn’t faltering. Endorsement deals, touring with superstars, singles breaking top ten on Billboard Hot 100, and a No. 1 r&b song right now! He is in a much better place than he was two albums ago, he is one of the top acts in r&b right not and he is also getting some mainstream shine as well! I am sure he appreciates everyone of his accomplishments. Platinum status isn’t the only sign of success!

And for f*cksake can we please leave CB out of this! That arguement is so old and tired! They are BOTH doing well, they are friends and not each others competition! Please put that mess to rest already! Ugh!

  17. VA STAND UP!! November 4, 2010

ILIKEME: I totally agree with both your comments! Some people are just hell bent on putting these two against each other! Usually it’s Breezy stans, which is so stupid cause these dudes are friends. How many times have we seen them together sharing a laugh? Let that ish go already, it doesn’t make CB look better by putting Trey down and vice versa! Let it go!

  18. word November 4, 2010

the truth is dat the album is selling well in this climate, its not even 2 months old but has already sold, 450 k, thats a huge achievement, this site is just a hate site, they never congragulate they descriminate.

  19. Alexander November 4, 2010

Trey is a joke also the album is a flop with unusual flopping off the top charts/ NOW UP UP UP UP BOTTOMS FLOP HARD UP UP UP UP
kELLZ MURDERED HIM WITH HIS TIMELESS PIECE

  20. Mishka November 4, 2010

    Trent,

Bottoms up is #6 on Billboard Hot 100. Are you not gonna congratulate Mr Steal _ur_girl?

And as for this remix, that’s a no-no Trey. You’re not Drake.

  21. Lisa November 4, 2010

Selling 450K in this music business is not bad, who else is doing it? Trey is selling records without selling out! He’s not doing Go-Go pop like Usher and Chris Brown and his sales will probably increase when he goes on tour with Usher because that’s not really Trey’s crowd. But Trey is a flop? Really? He currently has the #1 R&B song in the country with Can’t Be Friends (taking that spot away from CB). And Bottoms Up is #3 and #7 on the Hot 100! He’s snatching everybody’s wig, you mad? Stay mad!
As far as the song, i love the spins that he puts on the songs. He made a sexual reference like once or twice so why is Trent acting like the whole thing is sexual? I understand he doesn’t like him, but when he makes comments like that it just makes him seem stupid and like he can’t comprehend. Lol and Kanye made sexual references too! But the talking at the end = LIFE! Pure hilarity! #lemmeholdatbeat coming soon!

  22. Heaven November 4, 2010

Why would any one with self respect celebrate being reduced to a piece of p**** for his d*** to forget the next day on every track by an egomaniac? People are amazingly stupid. This man will never get any of my money.

With all that f****** airplay this **** not gold yet? pfft

  23. Heaven November 4, 2010

And don’t even go there with that b******* taking Chris Brown’s spot away. Chris had that spot for ten weeks and is now #2 . Deuces is a mixtape song. When he achieves that then you people can talk. And now Urban Chart is relevant because he’s #1 get the f*** real. It was relevant all for those ten weeks too!

Trey has been given every opportunity (since the incident) and mega airplay . All of his s*** should be platinum by now. Between him, Drake and Nicki, I don’t bother with radio (payola in heavy rotation).

    Now that’s Real Talk.

  24. Lisa November 4, 2010

    @Heaven

I was stating a fact that he took the #1 spot away from CB, there was no shade. Why you so mad?

  25. Heaven November 4, 2010

He didn’t take anything, Deuces ran it’s course for ten weeks. Let’s see how long BB is there. I’m never mad hun, nor do I banter. #theend

  26. jeremydante November 4, 2010

the opening vocals sound fuckn horrible.
he’s lucky he bulked up on the muscle, other wise he would’ve never sold any records. it’s funny how fast b****** forget when someone packs on muscle.

on that note; the hook is smooth because he kept the melody simple.
    – when he tries to do runs, it sounds stupid.

  27. Ted November 4, 2010

@Lisa~ Took the number 1 spot away from Chris Brown… umm… just after 10 weeks… please now! You left yourself wide open on that one. Thus far this year, Deuces had the longest running weeks @ number 1 in the hip-hop, r&b on billboard.

    @ Heaven~ I concur!

  28. NUNYA November 5, 2010

that is a FLOP because he have over a million plus followers and if half of them wouldve purchased his cd, he wouldve been at gold already. trey is all hype and thats it. I wonder will he ever get a platinum plaque? only time will tell.

  29. Alexander November 5, 2010

    Elephant swat flies!
R Kelly is belting out vocals while Trey is Baa Baa like a goat

  30. VA STAND UP!! November 5, 2010

@Alexander: You do realize you comment made no sense what so ever, right?

    #sit

@Lisa: “Go Go’ pop? Really?? You were shading and you know it! I can’t deny Usher switched up his style, but CB has BEEN pop way before this current trend! Remember ‘Forever’ which was like his biggest hit ever! He wrote ‘Disturbia, which was a huge hit as well, and his last album was full of pop/dance tracks, but was over looked because of his scandal. CB has been an r&b/pop artist since his second album! He NEVER sold out, so don’t go there!

‘Deuces’ was a FREE mixtape single with no promo except for his twitter and mostly Urban blog sites and topped the r&b charts for 9 weeks! Trey getting the No. 1 with “Can’t Be Friends’ spot is undoubtely an accomplishment for Trey, but it won’t stay on top as long as ‘Deuces’ I’m sure of it!

Even with all the success Trey has had this past year, he still has yet to accomplish all the success that Usher or even CB have had (i.e. no platinum album yet) so please don’t try to act like $450k is anything compared to his counter parts! Even Ne Yo has outsold Trey!
Like I said, there is no need to downplay one artist success to big up anothers, especially when it comes to Trey, because he will undoubtely lose that battle!

  31. Lisa November 5, 2010

@ VA Stand Up: I was mostly talking about Usher when i said GoGo pop, i know CB is a pop artist now I used to be a BIG CB fan and to me he sold out. I didn’t like Forever or any of his pop singles really and that Yeah 3x song sucks. I know die hard CB fans who dont like the song, but that’s just my opinion. I’ve heard people say that Trey sold out because his songs are about s** but at least he is a R&B artist making actual R&B music! With all his success he never had to go pop for any of it.

I know Trey would love to have a platinum album but record sell aren’t everything, like he said “I rather sell out seats than sell a h** ass record!” For him to even be approaching gold this fast when his first album only sold 10k the first week out is an accomplishment for him. For him to even be in the same breathe as an Usher or CB is an accomplishment for him considering that just 2 years ago nobody paid attention to him. You being from VA should know this! But even when he does sell a million albums all ur gonna say is well he aint sell 2 million, so does it really matter…

  32. Nadjee November 5, 2010

    @VA STAND UP

I agree with everything you said. I only heard 2 sexual statements as well.

Trent must be mad because Trey didn’t give him any d*** in the mouth.

  33. VA STAND UP!! November 5, 2010

@Lisa: Um…..can you read? My FIRST comment clearly states that I am happy for Trey’s success. I said, very insistingly, that platinum status is NOT the only sign of success. I even listed some of his accomplishments in this past year! So, NO, I would NOT say that if he does go platinum it’s not good enough! That’s silly!

If you were ‘mostly’ speaking about Usher when you said ‘go go’ music, you didn’t carify that! You insinuated that CB ‘sold out’ and that is the key to his success! That’s B*******! CB didn’t have to do pop in order to have success. CB’s first album was 100% r&b and it sold 2.1 million albums in the US and 3 million world wide! His first album was his biggest selling album to date! He had more hits off of ‘Exclusive’, but it didn’t sell better than his first.

If you think that “Yeah 3x” ‘sucks’, then that is your ‘opinion’ as well as any other CB fan who doesn’t like it! I don’t ‘love’ it myself, but I as a fan I am aware of the fact that he has been doing pop for YEARS, so that doesn’t make him a ‘sell out’! He didn’t ‘have’ to do pop to sell, because he had success before. If you were a true fan of his before you would know that he has stated in many interviews that he loves all different types of music and wants to reflect that in his music and doesn’t want to be labeled as just an r&b artist!

Besides, he just had a No. 1 song off of a mixtape (that just went platinum) and was completely r&b, so clearly even now he doesn’t ‘have’ to do pop to have success! He transitions from r&b to pop and has success with both!

Furthermore, did you forget that he released TWO FREE mixtapes full of hip hop/r&b tracks! Don’t tell me you didn’t like anything from those two mixtapes! He gave his urban fans plenty of music for free that catered strictly to an urban audience. Now that he releases one new pop song (even though he has released pop before) people want to say he sold out?? That doesn’t make any sense!

Beyonce does r&b and pop, is she a sell out??
Rihanna does r&b and pop is she a sell out??
Ne Yo does r&b and pop,is he a sell out??

If you are a fan of an artist, you will respect what they do, even if you don’t love it, but to say they ‘sold out’ because you don’t like something really means you were never a fan at all! You don’t stop liking and artist just because you don’t like a few songs they do.

  34. VA STAND UP!! November 5, 2010

    Nadjee: Thanks! ; )

  35. Lisa November 5, 2010

    @VA Stand Up

I can read very well but i didn’t read ur earlier post, thank you very much. But in the post i did read you said “… he still has yet to accomplish all the success that Usher or even CB have had (i.e. no platinum album yet)” If platinum albums aren’t everything then why are you bringing it up? And here you go again telling me everything CB has done in his career, i get it! I know he does pop music but almost all his singles with the exception of Forever have been R&B songs. The pop songs have been just album cuts.

And i never said CB was successful because he sold out, I’m speaking on this Yeah 3x song and the stuff off his new album that he played on his Ustream. I didnt hear not one R&B song. My question is if you JUST had a #1 hit R&B song then why are you making hella pop music for ur album? I think he feels like he has the urban people on his side and now he’s trying to get the white folks on his side with this new music. And to me that makes him a sell out. But again that is my opinion. So all that other stuff you wrote is irrelevant because I’m just talking about recent music.

And yes i do think Ne-Yo and Rihanna are have sold out to a certain extent, especially Rihanna. Her first album was full of reggae type songs and now you get NONE of that from her. And Beyonce has been making pop music since Denstiny’s Child (And the songs have been singles) so i dont consider her a sell out!

  36. Alexander November 5, 2010

Stand-up is a f*****; Goat Songz is a flopper and f**/ Huh no platinum album in 2010 for real d***** bag.

Vocals is horrible punk and I’ll f*** you up f**

  37. VA STAND UP!! November 5, 2010

@Lisa: I mentioned Trey albums sales because the Trent mentioned them in his commentary! Not to mention YOU and several other commenters mentioned his albums sales as well, and compared them to CB! You even brought in Usher, no one else mentioned him!

FYI: “Forever’ wasn’t his only pop song he released. ‘With You’ and ‘No Air’ were pop ballads as well and they were both huge hits. They weren’t ‘Europop’ but they werein fact pop!

I don’t know what Ustream you were listening too, but the only pop song he played was ‘Yeah 3x’! That’s the only one! He played a sample of ‘Calypso’ which he clearly stated was his r&b single and also a snippet of ‘Sweetheart’ which is actually Island flavored. So besides ‘Yeah3x’ what other pop songs have you heard from him?? What makes you think that “F.A.M.E’ will be full of ‘hella’ pop? When did he say that??

Here is the link for proof: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUw4iSOHUVM

Name a song other than ‘Yeah 3x’ that you have heard from his upcoming album that is pop?? I’m waiting……

What are you saying, since ‘Deuces’ was such a hit. he ‘has’ to follow that up with more r&b? Is that your logic? He is on a record with Twista that is on the charts right now ‘Make a Movie’ that is r&b/hip hop. He just released ‘Ain’t Thinking About You’ with Bow Wow…very much an r&b/hip hop song! TI just released the video for ‘Get Back Up’, another r&b/hip hop record. He has another record with his lil artist Jawan Harris coming out as well called ‘Aother Planet’. He has been releasing more r&b recently than pop! He releases one pop song and that upsets you??

He has other fans, such as the people who love ‘Forever’ (his biggest world wide hit) who want to hear more music from him other than r&b. Is he supposed to leave them hanging because people like you think he is a sell out if he does pop? Since he had such success with ‘Forever’, why should he not venture into familiar territory? He has a fan base outside of the r&b world so he has to cater to them as well. It is beyond ignorant for you to say that you feel he is trying to ‘get white folks on his side’ by releasing pop music! As if skin color determines what type of music you listen to! Do you honestly think that only white people will like “Yeah 3x’?! I am black and I like the song (I don’t love it but I like it) and “Forever’ was my favorite pop song by him! I have white friends that listen to rap more than I do! Skin color does not determine what music appeals to you!

Like I said, if you think he ‘sold out’ then that is your opinion, but you clearly weren’t a big fan to begin with.

  38. VA STAND UP!! November 5, 2010

I am not a big fan of Rihanna, by any means but if you really think that she hasn’t done ANY raggae influenced songs since her first album, than you are very much mistaken! I mean honestly, where have you been??

Her current single ‘What’s My Name’ is raggae flavored. ‘Rude Boy’ which was a huge smash from her last album was raggae flavored! She also has songs on her up coming album that are raggae flavored such as ‘Man Down’ & ‘Raining Men’. Even songs that didn’t have raggae beats, she sung witha heavy accent such as ‘Te Amo’ or ‘Wait Your Turn’. She hasn’t abandoned her roots completely at all.

Ne Yo hasn’t sold out either. He always has more r&b on his albums than pop. The only pop sog he has released recently was ‘Beautiful Monster’ and that flopped! But I guess since you think they sold out, you aren’t even checking for them so you don’t even bother to listen to their music.

FYI: Destiny’s Child first two albums were completely r&b, especially ‘Writings on the Wall’. So you still don’t think they sold out when they released ‘Survivor’? I guess you only hear what you want to hear when you listen to the music. *shrugs*
