Mariah Carey teamed up with the Jump Smokers to create a mashup remix of her #1 Holiday hits ‘Oh Santa’ and ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’. The diva, whose ‘Merry Christmas To You’ concert airs tonight at 9pm Est on ABC, even applied some new vocals to the songs. Give the remix a listen below:
It’s great to see Carey revamping her songs and making true remixes in the vein on her early work instead of the copy and paste jobs that would have been her ‘Angels Advocate’ album. Moreover, judging by this track, it seems that she is truly forging ahead with more organic compositions that allow the dimensions of her voice to shine.
When it comes to understanding the importance of backup singers, melodic songwriting and cohesive vocal arrangements, Carey is in a league by herself. Those elements were missed on her ‘Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel’ album, proving to be one of its many pitfalls.
However, Carey sounds like she’s ready to take things to whole new levels and I’m ready to hear what she has to offer on her future projects. Time to put that 5+ octave vocal range to work again!
