New Song: Rihanna – ‘S&M (Remix) (Ft. J.Cole)’

Published: Tuesday 18th Jan 2011 by Trent

There is just no escaping Rihanna. The official remix to her new single from her yet-to-go-platinum ‘Loud’ album, ‘S&M’, has just been released and it features an act with actual viable talent, J.Cole. Give it a listen below:

This track demonstrates one of the rare occurrences where I did not enjoy Cole’s contribution. His flow simply didn’t suit the song and sounded a bit jarring. Still, his verse didn’t take away from the song and it should give Rihanna’s crazed fans a glimpse of what an artist who writes his own lyrics can do.

    This song is a guilty pleasure of mine, the best song on “Loud”. I I like it as much “Please Don’t Like The Music”.

    But I do agree that J.Cole’s verse adds nothing to the song. I hope this isn’t released as the version.

    And if I’m not mistaken, I thought Loud was already certified platinum…?

    bringing up rihanna’s song writting credibility was unnecesary. and loud has sold over 3million world wide and around 900,000 in the u.s
    j.cole added nothing to the song, but i like him

    um it has sold almost 800,00 copies in the u.s

    and it just hasent been certfied platium …..rated r was certified platium when it had sold like 600,000 copies and rated r didnt officialy go platuim(actully selling 1million) until october 2010 …………loud is selling much faster and it has sold close to 3million w.w(actally like 2.6) and is the bestselling album of 2011 soo far sooooooo rih is the s*** and still selling much better than nicki and kanye worldwide and they were certified platuim in the u.s!!!!!!!!!

  26. S*** January 18, 2011

    I get why the Album is called LOUD though, Its because while all the songs are different SUBJECT-WISE, They ALL revolve around the same PRODUCTION where on all the songs we usually have softer VERSES but the CHORUS/HOOK is usually whats LOUD. Only songs that dont stick to that production style/technique are Man Down, Cheers, & Skin.

  27. TheDimplePuppet January 18, 2011

    What happen to the rest of my comment ^^^^^ lol.

  28. Royalkev January 18, 2011

    I’m still trying to get use to this song. I don’t like it any more today, than I did yesterday. It’s crazy to think that it won’t become a hit though. It’s generic, has a message about s** and it sounds like everything else on the radio(as well as Disturbia)… that’s 3 things to check off the list, so it’ll do just fine. I doubt that this one will make it to #1, so she’ll be better off having those high hopes for “All of the lights”. She does however, have enough material to reach platnium and possibly stand a chance of topping the charts with 2 more singles. So, maybe she should not resort to rushing album #6 out by November!

    The album’s sold 800k in the US and is about to ship Platinum. Just shut up, Trent. You’re just pressed because this record is selling insanely and is bound to become her biggest record to date.

    As for the remix, I doubt it will be the official single. I hope not, anyways. I loved J. Cole’s verse on that, and I love his rap, but it didn’t fit the song. It was good to hear this, though, since the original second verse is lacking.

  34. RihannaForever January 18, 2011

    @RoyalKev
    Just to clarify, Loud has sold almost 3 million internationally and almost gone Platinum in the US quicker than any of her previous albums, with next-to-no promo. “S&M” MAY go #1, and then “Raining Men” and a likely 5th single will definitely become hits.

    Also, I HIGHLY doubt Rihanna’s going to release her sixth record this year. The reason that her 2nd and 3rd albums were released so quickly back in 2006 and 2007 was because she wasn’t experiencing success so her label pushed multiple styles and sounds on each album to see which would do well.

    Then, Rated R obviously came out an appropriate time after GGGB due to GGGB’s success, and the only reason Loud came out a year after Rated R was because Rihanna wanted to show that she had moved on from that time in her life.

    Rihanna doesn’t actually release albums quickly if thought about. It seems like that on the surface, but there is a very valid justification for her releasing her 2nd, 3rd, and 5th records so quickly. A sixth album won’t come out until, my guess, mid or late 2012 because the Loud era has been successful and, unlike Rated R, she has nothing to move on from (the darkness).

  35. RihannaForever January 18, 2011

    @S***
    I mean, well said, but that isn’t why she called the record Loud.

  36. sane beyhanna stan January 18, 2011

    As a rihanna stan I think loud is her 3rd best album behind Rated R, and GGGB. Loud lacks the cohesiveness of Rated R and its strongest moments don’t rival GGGB’s strongest moments either! Rated R>>> GGGB>>>>>>>>>> Loud

  37. RihannaForever January 18, 2011

    @SaneBeyhannaStan
    Really? I felt that Loud was her strongest record. It’s hard to choose because although it’s obvious that her first two albums don’t compare to her 3rd, 4th, and 5th, I felt that Loud was the most cohesive but varied she’s ever been.

    Rated R was cohesive but I thought that some songs, like “Te Amo”, just didn’t fit on the record. As for GGGB, I thought that record was very strong, but some songs were just too alike. Loud is really THE perfect Rihanna album – reggae, dance, urban, and pop altogether with a Rihanna spin. GGGB was a little forced and Rated R was almost too cohesive.

  38. S*** January 18, 2011

    ^^^ I AGREE

    Rated R>>> GGGB>>>>>>>>>> Loud (Though I never really heard her 1ST two Albums out of Fear of losing my Hearing 🙂 )

    ALL Rih’s Albums might FLOP HARD in the US but shes sure making up for it in the UK, How much did it sell there again? 🙂 I think LOUD will sell a Max of 5 MILLION WW Outselling the 4 Million GGGB, & Reloaded sold & the 3 Million her 2ND Album AGLM sold. That is If It keep selling with the help of The Next 2 or 3 Singles.

  39. RihannaForever January 18, 2011

    @S***
    Rihanna’s albums do NOT flop hard in the US. But I do agree that Loud will definitely become a more successful era for her than GGGB if they continue to make the right single choices and release a re-release with more hits.

    @ rihanna forever. Cute gravatar btw 🙂 and yea I kinda agree with you firebomb,cold case love, russian roulette are rihs strongest songs to me. Rated R made me a stan. She experimented and took much more of a role in the production and the sound which I admired. During GGGB I liked it but I agree some songs like lemme get that,say it(while I enjoy them) are throw away to me. And loud is really more of a progression for her. I like loud but some songs are just so-so I like ALL of them but some don’t completely do it for me. @ s*** tbh I feel like AGLM is underated because to me there are some good songs on it kisses don’t lie was a risk for her and songs like one million miles away are really listenable

  43. RihannaForever January 18, 2011

    @MusicLover
    Just to reply to your comment out of interest in what you said, I think only Gaga and Rihanna have a chance at #1.

    Kesha’s singles are always top 10 material, but they aren’t #1 material. “TiK ToK” is one exception to that, and “We R Who We R” only went #1 because people were excited for more new Ke$ha music and because it was DEFINITELY, by FAR her most catchy single after “TiK ToK”.

    Katy’s “E.T.” is kind of a bad single choice (“Peacock” or “Last Friday Night” would’ve been better), but due to all the promo she does and the buzz she has lately, I wouldn’t be surprised if it went #1. It just isn’t that kind of song, though. With Rihanna, “S&M” could deifnitely go #1 because it’s a fan favorite and it’s so radio-friendly. I mean, I didn’t think either “Grenade” or “Firework” would go #1 and they did.

    Lastly, for Gaga, I don’t know. Obviously, the buzz for the single is insane and the promo she’s doing for it could help it to go #1, but it depends on what type of song it is. It seems like, based off of descriptions, it’ll be a power ballad/midtempo, so I’m unsure…

  44. sane beyhanna stan January 18, 2011

    Also @ rihanna forever I like that with rated r and loud she has finally started to vocally challenge herself and improve and she may still be a hit and miss live vocalist but she’s becoming much better live to listen to

  45. Royalkev January 18, 2011

    @ Rihanna Forever, you might have a point about the singles. Rihanna’s unpredictably lucky when it comes down to them. BTW, I don’t think Raining Men will get to #1 either. The longer an album is out the harder it is to get a #1 single. The cheesier songs or the songs lacking energy don’t get a big reception when it’s been a while. The hype in the beginning usually works, that’s why songs like Only Girl, California Girls(Katy) and HIAM(Brit) reach the top so easily… then are followed with better singles like What’s My Name. If she play her cards right, Skin could work if she has good timing and Cheers might too(depending on if it’s not too much of a standout song that people already exhausted on the album). It is one of the better songs she has to offer though.

    I feel like she constantly releases albums because she wants to remain relevant. She walks a fine line. It’s like people adore her if she has a hot record out because she’s always in your face. If she takes a lengthy break or even a quick 6 months off, she runs the risk of being ignored. I think her team have noticed certain trends with other artist from Ciara to Alicia to Pink and want for her to avoid making a premature exit. What I do give Rihanna credit for , is that she has improved. She can still be a bit lazy, but sometimes she surprises me.

    *The Page with RoyalKev / February 7th, 2011(Where there’s a place for everything and everything has its place)

  46. S*** January 18, 2011

    @ RihannaForever

    Yeah, I think LOUD…. MIGHT beat GGGB’s Initial Sells/Individual Sells but to beat GGGB overall Sells that would require a Re-release with some more Generic Hits ofcourse. & Rih’s Albums DO FLOP in the US compared to who she is & what she should be able to sell here in the states they most certainly are FLOPS. With all those #1s she SHOULD NOT be struggling to go Platinum ANYWHERE & certainly Not in the STATES!!!!!!! & thats what her last 2 albums are doing… struggling to SELL Platinum.

  47. RihannaForever January 18, 2011

    @SaneBeyhannaStan
    AGLM made me a Ri stan, but I definitely agree. Loud is like a step-up and progression from GGGB but compared to Rated R, it’s just difficult because they are SO different, except for “Skin” which is very similar to Rated R. GGGB felt forced to me and the last few songs were kind of throwaways while Rated R’s last few songs were all too similar to me (except for “Cold Case Love”). I love every song on Loud.

  48. sane beyhanna stan January 18, 2011

    @ s*** I feel like people expect her to sell shitloads in a week and easily break platinum but she’s never sold that way. Although her sells are picking up each album she just never sells that way. I don’t think she flops because ALL her albums are certified.

  49. sane beyhanna stan January 18, 2011

    @ rihanna forever yea prior to Rated R although I always liked her I never took her seriously but I see what you mean about both GGGB and Rated R. Each song on loud is strong in its own way and better the a lot of her previous material. And idk why but most rih stans HATE california king bed but her common ones love it that’s kinda weird but oh well *kanye shrug*

  50. sane beyhanna stan January 18, 2011

    @ royalkev yea I agree as a live performer she’s getting there and she’s vastly improving and she just may be remembered for years apart if she distances herself a lot more from the current popstars

  51. RihannaForever January 18, 2011

    @RoyalKev
    What you said about singles is very true, but it’s easier for Rihanna because her albums don’t fly off shelves immediately. They’re slower sellers, so songs are less well known and easier to earn success. “Raining Men” isn’t likely to go #1 but if she does a re-release formula like with GGGB, she may be able to earn one to three more #1’s and increase Loud’s sales. “Skin” is a great song, but I don’t think it will be chosen as a single.

    @S***
    You must not know the definition of flop because Rated R did go Platinum and in this market, that’s a HUGE accomplishment. Don’t degrade her international sales, as well. It’s hugely important to be an international star as many can be hits in the US but it takes more to be huge internationally.

    @SaneBeyhannaStan
    Prior to GGGB, I don’t think Rihanna got the recognition she deserved. She went #1 with “SOS” but no one really cared about her. My favorite thing about being a stan all these years is that she’s proving the naysayers wrong every day. I know some people who said back in 06 that she would never be big, and look where we are now. I don’t know about CKB. I like it, but it’s probably actually my least favorite song on Loud. It’s just a tad boring.

  52. RihannaForever January 18, 2011

  56. sane beyhanna stan January 18, 2011

    @rihanna forever exactly with rated r she distanced herself from the rest of the pack and with loud she will prove that her success isn’t based on luck but on her drive to succeed 🙂

  57. RihannaForever January 18, 2011

    @SaneBeyhannaStan
    I agree! When people talk about how Rihanna is just another pop star, it just irritates me. Kesha and Katy Perry could never do Rated R as well as Rihanna did and could never make Rated R as successful as it was. Rihanna has proven that she isn’t “just another pop star”. On every album, she takes risks.

    No offense to Katy and Kesha, but they kind of just do the same tired form over and over again.

  58. S*** January 18, 2011

    I see you’re one of those Rihanna Stans that like to give her FARRR TOO MUCH Credit.

    Need I remind you that she has NO TALENT & Didnt Contribute ANYTHING to Loud besides Dying her hair Red (assuming she wasnt told to do so). She has a Unique Voice & Star Quality but thats it. 😐 Her TEAM & Producers are in charge of Everything Else. She is not responsible for any of her success aside from just waking up in the morning.

    & I Like Rihanna just being Honest/Logical.

  59. sane beyhanna stan January 18, 2011

  60. RihannaForever January 18, 2011

    @S***
    I am NOT one of those stans, I just simply give credit where its due. With Loud, she contributed quite a bit. She was on tour the whole time that album was in the works, and part of the reason that she didn’t co-write anything like with Rated R was because she did not have any time.

    However, you are VERY mistaken to say she didn’t contribute to anything and that she doesn’t contribute to anything. Rihanna chose and planned the entire Loud image and sound, similar to what your fav Beyonce does. Everything Loud was was Rihanna’s idea. Maybe she didn’t write the songs or produce the record, but neither does Beyonce. However, Rihanna did choose everything else – sound, image, etc.

    Rihanna has talent and is constantly improving. Just because she isn’t Mariah Carey doesn’t mean she doesn’t have talent. But I should know better. We both know that anything that isn’t Beyonce is inferior to you.

  61. S*** January 18, 2011

    I did gain a hell of a lot more respect for her for Rated R (sense there was Depth & it was REAL), enough to put her above her Pop Peers(Gaga, Katty, Ke$ha) (& even Britney & Madonna) Only because her voice & Music is better but NOT that far above 😐

  62. Jeff_Turnbough January 18, 2011

    I Hate to break it to you but RIHANNA’S NAME ISNT ON NOT 1 SINGLE SONG ON LOUD so what does that tell you about her capabilities??

    Anyways, I’m moving to South Korea this summer and I’ll be there until the summer of 2013, so I’m planning on flying back to visit America whenever she comes to LA (I’ll stay with my parents and see a show).

    And yes, the LGOE tour was CREEPY. Like really kind of scary. But she delivered, and it fit with Rated R so I enjoyed it.

    I’ve seen Beyonce, Rihanna, and Gaga live out of the 3 concerts I’ve been to. I actually met Rihanna, LOL. Not to brag, but I just felt like sharing. 75. Gucci January 18, 2011

    Dead @s*** at least she’s not stealing writing credits for songs she didn’t write unlike some people honey. Let’s not even go there. Rihanna didn’t write any song on Loud and Beyonce’s lying ass has never written a song in her entire life. So?

  76. sane beyhanna stan January 18, 2011

    @ gucci I remember you posting here in the past and your posts were always hilarious, lmfao that was actually funny as hell about bey but please don’t dragg anyone you too classy can’t we all just keep it cute 🙂

  77. mystery solved January 18, 2011

    Smh never understood why people like these pointless songs that sound like a bunch of talent? I liked the song man down better from her, whats my name was aight & raining men I guess it’s ok but Im not really feeling it at all even with J cole on it.

    I can’t understand what people see in this and not just her either. Some others too but this is a rihanna thread. So

    I dunno, not one of my faves off the album.

    What i don’t like is that when the demo’s are released i realise that Rihanna brings nothing new to the song when recorded.

  80. james January 18, 2011

    Shes already 3 times platinum over here in the ukwith the loud album

  81. nothing but the truth January 18, 2011

    I hate people like @S*** always trying to turn degrade artist talent who isnt Beyonce we all know Beyonce is a muther effing boss but to try to discredit Rihanna’s success to put Bey on a higher pedestal is pathetic and ignorant

    who else do you know started their career over sees and made it big and remained relevant to this day thats in the industry right now? I wont argue with you about talent because it’s clear your just hatig to say Rihanna has absolutely NO talent when we all know even though she dont make 90% of her songs she still do partake in something

    and dead at Sam and Trent for trying to throw shade when your fav cant even release a album in the states let alone see it to selling 1,000 copies and the even funnier thing is I didnt see you post Loud being the #1 album in the world for 3weeks straight knocking off MJ can Kelly Rowland do that? honestly ask yourself that

    How the hell you come from one of the best selling groups in the world but still cant hold your own even when working next to one of the best in the game right now? I think your really mad at Beyonce because she was the boss of the group and onto bigger and better things while Kelly is struggling to get some gigs

    But your not stupid you know if you go against Beyonce your site would get shut the f*** down so you retaliate against Rihanna because whether you like her voice or not she still have more success than Kelly do in her whole what? 10year the rest struggling up until now career

    On another note I think Rihanna’s GGGB era was her best live performances era and for people to say she sounded a mess all throughout her career need I start posting links that state otherwise?

  82. lax January 18, 2011

    people it’s okay for others to be light years ahead, but don’t forget that theres
    many stars in the sky after dark. rihanna has proved herself over and over again that she has staying power. rihanna is in her own lane doing her own thing.

    ri is doing what she loves and enjoying being a super star, and shes is making some great strides in the music fill. think about this , you know her voice has gotten deeper, stronger and her persona is so powerful. shes talented, beautiful, s***,
    shes humble and she has become a household name allover the world. and love are hate her and you can CLOWN EVERY LITTLE ARE BIG THING THAT SHES DOES AND IT WILL STILL NOT BREAK HER SPIRITS, SHES IN IT TO WIN IT AND SHES NOT RACING WITH NO ONE THAT IS PEOPLE THAT WANTS TO START CRAP AND BE NEGATIVE ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT RIHANNA DOES AND RIHANNA IS STILL SHINING THROUGH ALLOF THE CRAP AND STEADY MAKING POWER MOVES AND IF RIHANNA IS NOT YOUR CUP OF TEA THEN GO IN SEARCH OF YOUR FAVE.

    AND LEAVE THEM CRAZED RIHANNASNAVY FANS ALONG,,,, YEP WHEN YOU CAN;’T CRAP ON RIHANNA AND GET AWAY WITH IT THEN THERES THE TEN MILL,IONS NAMES OF ALL THE PEOPLE WHOS BETTER THAN RIHANNA AND HOW YOU HATE HER MUSIC.

    FYI,,,,AS OF NOV 2010 RIHANNA HAS SOLD 25MILLIOM ALBUMS ALONG AND I KNOW THE HATERS HATE NUMBERS WHEN ITS GOOD NUMBERS ABOUT RIHANNA ,,,,BUT KNOW THIS YES I MIUGHT BE A CRAZED FAN AND LOUD, AND A STUPM DOWN HOPE TO DIE OFFICER WHEN IT COMES TO THE TALENTED ARTIST AND I ALONG WITH OTHERS KNOW THAT THERES MANY WHOS AHEAD OF RIHANNA AND IT DOES NOT MATTER ONE S***,,,,,,,,,,

  83. JohnVidal January 18, 2011

    Garbage song! And is this supposed to be the best song on the album? Girl bye. Exactly like thriller yes…haha. This era in music when all garbage songs make it to #1 is getting on my nerves.
    And it´s funny too how stans of untalented puppets fight between them. Poor babes

  84. Reasonable Voice January 18, 2011

    I appreciate people like “Sane Beyhanna stan”. Because you don’t have to be delusional like s*** and think that just because someone isn’t as talented as Beyonce, and say they have no talent. I’m not here to brag about her accomplishments, or success. I’ll let the numbers do that. Btw, a 3rd date added at the Odyssey arena, and a total of 6 at the O2 arena,10 months away from the tour. #rihdomination has just begun.

  85. lax January 18, 2011

    IN 2009 THE PITCHFORK RANKED RIHANNA’S “UMBRELLA”AS THE #25 SONG ON THEIR LIST OF THE TOP 500 BEST TRACKS OF THE DECADE.
    AND I KNOW IT MAKES YOU BITTER ,LOOSERS BUT “RATED R” WAS AND IS A MASTERPIECE. “RUDE BOY” SOLD 1,117,000 IN FIVE DAYS, AND I KNOW THAT
    IT’S MAKES THE LOOSERS ALL SALTY,BITTER AND MAD,BUT IT’S ALLGOOD YOU CAN BEST BELIEVE THAT.

    PEOPLE HAS BEEN SPREADING MANY LIES AND THINGS THATS JUST NOT TRUE ON RIHANNA AND SINCE YOUR B/S WANT HOLD UP IN COURT THERES NO NEED TO ARGUE WITH A DAM FOOL. YOU SEE A FOOLWILL PEE ON YOUR LEGS AND TELL YOU IT’S RAINING. THEREFORE LOOSERS KEEP REACHING FOR STRAWS AND WE ALL SHALL SEE THE SO CALLED “RISE OF THE TITAN IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY TOGETHER. AND THE BEST FEELING OF ALL IS KNOWING THAT RIHANNA IS IN HER IWN LANE, NOT GIVING TWO CRAPS ABOUT NOTHING
    THAT IS PUT OUT ON HER THATS LIES AND NEGATIVE, BECAUSE THE “SHOW MUST AND WILL STILLGO ON. 86. Yellow Gorillah January 18, 2011

    This song is going to Smaaaash

    S&M is one of the strongest song’s on LOUD I think if they re-release lou dit will outsell GGGB!

    I don’t think they should add j-cole to the song to be honest even drake wa snot needed in Wha’t smy name but Ayy *Kanye shrug*

    But In My Eyes it goes like this

    Rated R ——> Good Girl Gone Bad —> Loud (but if loud has a re-release with 3-4 hot tracks it will DEFF Be better than GGGB!)

  87. AH AH AHA January 18, 2011

    @ nothin u still can post links, she lypsynched anyway. that rihanna b**** cant sing

    its funny how those crazed rihanna stans r always tryina make excuses. they were like 2 months, loud’s gonna 70k more this week, so it’ll probably go platinum by the end of the month. look, nicki did, kanye did. i dont give the f*** abt the world.u have to s*** first in US cuz the US rules the world. it’s only showin that she’s decreasin in US n it’s gonna be tougher for her in 2011 with solid acts all comin, rihanna gonna b pretty inexistant if she aint already become pretty inexistant with the arival of the titan brittany spears. what’s gonna happen when real talents will release, i mean beyonce n the godess gaga. n should i remind u that j lo is comin back, she’s so everywhere now. its gonna be interesting. the reason rihanna was “successfull” is bcuz her team is wise, they chose the appropriate time to release her album, let’s see if her next singles (mayb she’ll release 4 at once this time lmao) will have the same impact britney had. get ready to see loud decrease in the charts the way it climbed.

  88. nothing but the truth January 18, 2011

    ^^^^^^really she is gonna flop yet she still remained number 1 all on the charts while EVERY last one of them people you just named had singles out so really your point? say what you want about her but I’m proud of bother her and Beyonce for being really the only two black female artist out right now who can hold their weight in a white dominated Pop industry and at the end of the day your opinions of Rihanna or Beyonce aint gonna change the fact that your STILL gonna see both of them on your TV screens, that your STILL gonna see them on your computer screens, that your STILL gonna hear them on your radio stations, see them in your local magazines, and everywhere else

    * sarcasm* and yep this is considered not being able to sing http://youtu.be/eIW5NF_Jww0

  89. Yellow Gorillah January 18, 2011

    Rihanna has sold 20 Million Albums as of December and if I’m not mistaken has beyonce not sold around 25+ millions albums so Rihanna is like 5-6 million behind her she is catching up sooo fast and people need to give her credit for her I hate comparing the two but people treat rihanna like dirt when she has worked and paved her way into the industry and is leaving her mark! she is amazing

    but some people sadly get there respect when they are gone!

    and exactly WHO is Def Jam pushing her on? last time I checked her fans are in high demand and she loves what she do so she is giving what her fans want you see where the rest of these other females artist wined up because they aint want to listen to their fans

    @LAX LOL ok I was like what in the hell is this person talking about until I read the posts further down lol

    @SANE BEYHANNA Stan THANK YOU thats all we’ve been trying to do it’s good to see at least it aint always ignorant beyonce stans out there who thinks she can be the only successful person in the business just because Rihanna aint as successful as Beyonce dont mean she aint successful

    @Mina you think you can do better? how about you get out there and try and lets see how far you go since people now and days like “trash” or “untalented” artist

    Rihanna is in the top 5 of most hated on females in the industry but yet despite all you ignorant ass people she STILL have a career she is STILL all over the charts, she is STILL performing/opening awards shows, she is STILL getting advertisements, she is STILL on your radio stations she doing movies, she got a fragrance about to drop she have tons of charities and she still remains a humble and sweet (even if it is outspoken at times) individual despite people saying harsh things about her

    do you see her going around hitting paparazzi? do you hear stories about her being a b**** to the people she works with? do you see her being rude to people during interviews even if she get asked an uncomfortable question? no you dont and you people can continue to be nasty all you want but God, Allah, Budah, a higher being or whatever you believe in will continue to bless her because of all the hell people put her through for no reason smh

    @Ah Ah Aha I see you completely ignored the performance links I wonder why 😉

  114. Aladdin January 18, 2011

    whoaaaa i sense some hateration over here!!! all of you can continue to hate on rihanna as you sit in your dirty living rooms and wittle your stupid lifes away! Rihanna is a huge success and while everyone wont like her she has tons of fans and thats all that matters and just kill yourselves!

    #RIHANNANAVY stand up!!

  115. CRAMPED January 18, 2011

    @Lax aka Nicky – Since when Wikipedia became a reliable source of info. Maybe you wrote it there yourself. LOL Rihanna has not sold 20M. GGGB has sold 7.5 + 1M with Music Of the Sun + A Girl Like Me 3.5 M = 12M, hence the the plaque Def scam gave her in 2009.
    I dont care about rihanna, but her stans should not bring Beyonce into this because she sold more with less albums.

  116. Gilberto January 18, 2011

    22 million seems to be her albums’ shipments, not real sales. According to Def Jam, in 2009, Rihanna sold around 12 million albums. And it was before Rated R era. Which makes impossible to sell more 10 million in less than 2 years, even more impossible ’cause of the huge failure of Rated Flop. Rated R + Loud sales don’t even make 6 million copies sold. Do you want me to believe that she sold more 4 million with GGGB Remix and Rated R Remix? LOL.

  117. nothing but the truth January 18, 2011

    ^^^^^^I give respect where it’s due Beyonce a bad bish but really? fans like you make it seem like Beyonce came out off the break dropping 3 albums and selling that many records like she already didnt have a HUGE and loyal fan base from being in Destiny’s Child smh

    Rihanna is doing extremely well for a artist coming from out of states making it big in the US even when she didnt have a strong fan base from the beginning because people thought she was trying to be like Beyonce

    especially in the industry today you see some of what was the best struggling to even get gigs let alone decent album sale figures so to even say she is a flop….like really besides Beyonce Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and maybe Ke$ha and Katy Perry who do you know out right now selling the figures or even remotely close to what Rihanna is that put out music consistently?

    @ Nothing but the truth

    I think most people miss the point about Rihanna. It’s not about her sales, number one hits, ect. It’s more about the gross exaggeration of her success and what caliber artist she is. That’s something that can’t really be measured in numbers, I think.

    The reason Rihanna’s sales come up over and over again is because she’s a pretty unconventional artist when it comes to sales compared to her contemporaries, but her breed of pop star is only now becoming more common. Rihanna sells gradually, based more on visuals, fashion and crafting a specific persona for an era. Those things really have to develop over time.

    I don’t think people “believe” Rihanna at first. They have to be convinced they should purchase her albums, or buy into her constantly changing image. But, they WILL buy those hit singles. Overall, her style/persona/performances are a little unnatural. I can say the same for her personality. It always seems….forced? Rihanna is very different, she’s successful in a very specific type of way, so people always bring up sales in an effort to EXPLAIN the difference between her, Beyonce, Gaga, or other pop-diva’s. She simply can’t be compared in that way.

    It’s not a question of NUMBERS, it’s a question of believability, I think. That’s the issue, and people get that confused.

  129. Auntie Jackie January 18, 2011

    @ Peris

    That’s great she sold that in the UK. I’m not sure what you are talking about, though. Surely not her album, but more likely her single sales? That was my point exactly. People will gladly buy the singles.

    They have to be convinced to buy her album and get comfortable with her new image for each era. Rihanna seems to have issues with believability. Her performances and interviews, and constantly, drastically changing image has to be accepted by the public. Like I was saying above, sometimes she comes across a forced. But, the public eventually buys the album with more visuals and time to get used to her new image.

    Rihanna isn’t a powerhouse like Bey or Gaga, who have little (in reference to Gaga) to no problems with believability. That’s in image and performances. It’s my personal opinion that they are more talented, but it’s my observation that these women are believed easily when they change styles, interview, or perform.

  130. nothing but the truth January 18, 2011

    @REAL ARTISTS R COMING funny that you mentioned that but can you tell me what specific artist and song stopped Lady Gaga’s ‘Telephone’ from going number 1 on BBHot100 Im just curious

    @AUNTIE JACKIE your entitled to your opinion I dont agree with what you said but hey you can think what you want

    because she likes to push the button instead of staying at one image she’s unbelievable? because she is an artist who can cross over into different musical genres while being successful she’s unbelievable? because she like to push boundaries and step outside the box she’s unbelievable? yeah ok

    people forget to realize she was only 16-17 when she hit the music scene she is now 22 about to be 23 what she thought/how she dressed/what she sings about and everything else aint gonna be the same as it was 2yrs ago and people forget that I’m pretty sure you wasnt acting the same way or your mindset aint where it was today they was it was hell maybe even a year ago

    the only person who pretty much stayed the same throughout their career was Beyonce but even then she added her ego Sasha Fierce to spice things up a little bit

    but hey your entitled to your own opinion

  131. nothing but the truth January 18, 2011

    *I’m pretty sure you wasnt acting the same way or your mindset aint where it is today the way it was hell maybe even a year ago*

  132. Auntie Jackie January 18, 2011

    @ Nothing but the truth

    Let me clarify: it’s not because she changes that she isn’t believed. It’s the precision with which she changes and the timing. It can come across as very orchestrated and unnatural.

    There is a HUGE difference between the way Madonna morphs and the way Rihanna does. For example, her new look is often the FOCAL point of her promotional push, instead of an auxiliary, or ADDED part. This makes it seem fake. Doesn’t mean it is. Just means it creates problems for her relationship with the public, but at the same time, it also creates excitement and publicity…which is the whole point.

    So, once the public believes this new image and gets used to it, Rihanna does very well. It’s not a jab at her, but I think it’s quite obvious that it’s an issue. People try to bring up her sales and all of this stuff, but that’s not what it’s all about. She’s successful no matter what type of numbers she does—because eventually she makes money back for the label. She’s successful, yet not dominant, and people don’t know how to describe that well so they fall back on her numbers. That’s not the proper way to describe what’s going on. That’s why stans/fans/haters argue in CIRCLES.

  133. nothing but the truth January 18, 2011

    & even then I can still group songs together from every last one of her albums to show even though the way she sung or delivered it differently, the root of the songs can pretty much relate back to each other

    her first two albums where the same pretty innocent girl representing her roots and where she came from…island girl making it big in the US, her third was her finding her image and saying to her label no I’m gonna do things the way I want to do them and letting the world know im not a little girl anymore im a grown woman, her forth one was her expressing her emotions through songs of an incident that happened which we all know about and her fifth one is her getting back to that happy place all the while combining all of the previous albums together and if you dont understand that then idk what to tell you *shrugs*

  134. nothing but the truth January 18, 2011

    I see what you are saying but at the same time each album came at a drastic moment in her life whether good or bad so of course it’s gonna be changed up and the thing is I can give you name of songs that wouldve been released that was kinda the same as far as the GGGB era but because of the incident she was hurt and she didnt know who to talk to so she released all of them emotions the best way she knew how….through music

    & because she was over that point in her life and she forgave and moved on thats why she was so quick to release Loud because any of the other remaining songs from RR I believe would have been to emotional for her to release and even if she did people would’ve said she’s trying to ruin Chris career or what was left of it so I think thats the main reason why she was so quick to put out Loud because she didnt want people to feel sorry for her and she didnt want to be stuck at that moment in her life anymore

  135. Auntie Jackie January 18, 2011

    @ Nothing but the truth

    What you just typed is obvious, and I know that. All you did was type out what has been said over and over by her and her label about her albums and image. The whole point is that this discussion goes beyond that. If that was the case then why do her albums sell so slow? There is clearly a disconnect between what her and her label say and what people believe. The same can be said of Ke$ha’s image (though she is NO WHERE near the success of Rihanna).

    You can’t understand what I’m saying about the public because you believe whatever constructed promotional push they have for whichever era she’s “IN”. My point is that not everyone does, and as a fan you should see beyond that. It’s the difference between a fan and a stan.

  136. Auntie Jackie January 18, 2011

    @ Nothing but the truth

    I can buy what you are saying about the points in her life, which is why I listen to a few Rihanna songs.

  137. JB January 18, 2011

    I’m not into this song but it will do well for her. This song will get massive airplay and will do well on the charts.

    For the people knocking J.Cole, lol, he’s just trying to show he’s versatile.

  138. jigsaw January 18, 2011

    This song sounds alot like Disturbia!

    Oh no is this nasty twit trying to screw yet another light-skinned brother? Chris Brown, Drake, Matt, now poor J. Cole! You better watch this h** right here man she will ruin your life!

  139. jigsaw January 18, 2011

    What shade are you ppl talking about? Trent told the truth J. Cole who is a good new act added nothing to this Disturbia remix!

    @nothing but the truth

    What the hell are you talking about? She doesn’t write any of her own songs. What emotion did she put into a song? Her PR arranged the songs and the marketing champaign around the release of her hurried CD’s. Her team ran with the “hate on Chris Brown” theme and released Rated R which was supposed to showcase how hard she was. Now they are trying to move her back to a neutral space where she looks softer and her music sounds bubbly “oh na na”! As for her trying to ruin Chris Brown’s career, she used her interviews to do that. She didn’t need to release a song!

  144. nothing but the truth January 18, 2011

    @Aunt Jackie her albums sell slow because people dont like her point blank period between the delusional Beyonce, Gaga and Chris Brown stans not to mention the Ciara and Keri fans (and I say the delusionals because there are some out there who are fans of more than one artist) they just want to see her fail so they wont support her even if she is good for example the people above saying she never delivered a good performance in her whole career when in case we all know is a lie and what I typed is obvious because it’s the truth

    why do you think GGGB sold more than any era to date? because not only did she have her solid fan base but she also had Chris fan base as well you cant sit here and tell me Taylor Swift boring ass is a better performer/a better artist than Rihanna but she sell more why? because she dont have people who hate her and everybody felt sorry for ‘the little white girl who got wrongfully treated by Kanye for no reason’ because before then aint nobody was even worried about her but back to the topic at hand more people want to see Rihanna fail than they do succeed so for her to remain relevant after everything and still push the numbers she do especially now and days when EVERYBODY s*** is being leaked on the net before it hit the stores

    Loud was the highest illegally downloaded album last year why? because people are curious and even though they hate to admit or support her they still care about what she’s doing

    and it’s not about that I can admit she fell off as far as performance wise because like I said her GGGB era was to me her best live performance era to date…she’s getting back to that and thats why people are starting to pay attention again but hey you can think what you want you dont personally know me so I dont really care what you think about me

    @Jigsaw we was talking about the Loud shade we aint say nothing about J. Cole even I think he was pointless on the song but I think he just did something I dont think it’s the official remix and if it is smh

    & did I say she wrote any of her songs? imma need you to go back reread my comments comprehend what I said and try again I know she didnt completely write any of her songs but she did partake in some and your clearly hating so once again I gotta school you amateurs……and Rihanna didnt ruin anything Chris did aint nobody put a gun to his head and make him beat her you sound stupid

    it wasnt a problem when Chris went on Larry King live to tell his side of the story but yet it was a problem for Rihanna to do an interview about her side FOH that’s people problems they so worried about artist personal lives great music is great music I dont give a damn if you been f****** a prostitute thats your life I could give a f*** less…..as long as your giving me great music I can listen to what you do in your personal life aint none of my damn business I aint paying you to tell me about your personal life I’m paying you to continue to give me music I enjoy and thats people problem they get too emotionally attached to artist so much so they gotta try dehumanize another one to bring their favorite up it’s not really that serious go find something to do with your own life and stop worrying about theres

  145. nothing but the truth January 18, 2011

    as far as her not singing with emotion on her songs have you not heard of Final Goodbye? Hate That I Love You? Rehab? Question Existing? Cry? Take A Bow? Russian Roulette? Fire Bomb? G4L? Cold Case Love? The Last Song? Fading? California King Bed? Complicated? Love The Way You Lie? Only Girl?

    Really like Rally? imma need you to get a clue

  146. Peris January 18, 2011

    @ NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH

    LOVE YA FOR YOUR POST , BUT I MUST CORRECT YOU

    LOUD HAS SOLD FASTER THAN GGGB, IASF AND CIRCUS AND FAME., CHECK THE 8 WEEK TOTALS 🙂

  147. nothing but the truth January 18, 2011

    wait Loud passed GGGB sales already? oops my bad lol 😉

  148. Gilberto January 18, 2011

    According to Def Jam, which is Rihanna’s label and it’s more reliable than you, Rihanna has sold 12 million albums in 2009, before the Rated R era. If you don’t belive, just google it, there’s even a pic of hers holding the plaque.
    We know Rated R wasn’t a massive succesful era. According to you, it has sold 3 million to date. And Loud has sold 2.6 million thus far. 12 + 3 + 2.6 = 17.6. According to some Rihanna’s (delusional) stan, she has sold 22 to 25 million. Let’s use the 22 million. So could you tell me where did the 4.4 came from? It seems very unlikely that her older albums have sold more than Rated R between 2009 and 2010, even more unbelievable when they barely charted. And I doubt that 4.4 came from the sales of her remix albums. Could you explain where did they come from? Did she release it in other planets?
    Please. Don’t post delusional comments. I want real arguments with evidences.

    P.S.

    Paris,

    GGGB has sold 70k in 2010 in UK, not 100k. I ain’t even a fan of Flopanna and I know her sales, and you still think you are fan? STEP UP YOUR GAME, BASIC B****!

  149. jigsaw January 18, 2011

    @nothing but the truth

    Ha Ha, you school me? LOL, now that’s a bigger joke than a Rihanna live performance!

    No you didn’t say she wrote her songs because that would be the biggest lie ever told. I was discussing your reference to her pouring and/or expressing her emotions through her music. She was told to stand and sing stop acting as if she has control over her career. Isn’t she just another artist with a 360 deal? If you like Rihanna fine like her but you stans act like this girl can do no wrong. She has done some evil s*** and one day it will come back on her no matter how many number 1 digital singles she has.

    As for Chris Brown, he never said a damn thing against her. He did what he could to protect her by not exposing anything about their relationship. Stop acting like he ran her down so she had to do the same. He refused to talk about their personal life and she should have followed his lead!

  150. Peris January 18, 2011

    @ GILBERTO

    HER LABEL AND CHART NEWS STATED THAT SHE SOLD 9 MILLION , GET A F***** CLUE B****

    100K WAS AN APPROXIMATION ……U KNOW HOW TO ROUND? AND IT WAS I BELIEVE 76K.

    ANYWAY…….

    CHECK THE CHARTS ON MARCH 2008…..GGGB HAD SOLD 7.8 MILLION BY THEN. JUST BECAUSE IT FALLS OUT OF THE TOP 40 ON WW CHART, DOESNT MEAN IT WASNT SELLING IDIOT!

    2010, 3 YEARS AFTER THE ALBUM RELEASE, RIHANNA SOLD ALMOST 100K IN THE UK ALONE…..THE B**** IS STILL CHARTING IN NUMEROUS TERRITORIES

    AND IT’S CURRENTLY TOP 55 ON THE UK ALBUM CHART

    THATS AN EXAMPLE OF CONTINOUS SALES MORON.

Iast time I checked I dont believe I did maybe if you stop jumping to conclusions you wouldnt make yourself look like a fool and even if she did who am I to judge? am I the person she have to answer to at the end of the day? no last time I checked according to her it was God that’s people problems they worrying about what everybody else is doing and judging like they and you included are doing like you are God Allah Buddha or something

    & of course he did because he was the one handing out the ass whopping you REALLY think he would’ve got up there and been like yeah I beat and choked the s*** outta her and left her laying on the sidewalk lifeless without caring if she died? hell no but like I said that’s his business what happened happened hopefully the media can finally get past it because like I said I aint here for people’s personal lives I’m here for great music and he deserve a second chance because that is what he make great music

    She sold 12M before Rated R like Def Scam said, shipped 3M of Rated Flop and Sold 2.6M of Loud, so. how did you arrived at 20M?

    GGGB did not sell 9M LOL and her Debut album has sold just 1m, not 2M. stop inflating the numbers. Rihanna has only SOLD 17M albums for the most. Dont be delusional and stop lieing.

    if your work, idea’s, and original design/art is being abused, plagiarized, copied, in other words “ripped off” by a major label or performance piece, which invests time and money into infringing upon others or “your” opportunity and future, have no fear, file a law suit in the state which the business owner of the product being marketed resides. One must file a law suit against a business in the geographical region or district it is located in, and filing the papers oneself or with help is sometimes necessary if finding an attorney is problematic. Generally ripping off others work is a common experience these days, and persons with financial gain understand many will fail, as artists tend to be poor business people-which is sometimes how they get away with stealing material. Be certain to copyright your work or collect all proofs of authenticity, its against the law to infringe upon others work or copy it if the author/creator decides they should ultimately receive credit and payment and not ANOTHER. The fact that major label players disregard placing proper credit and are cheap to not pay or compensate is an issue. Finding a lawyer to sue major labels in larger firms is difficult, however non for profit arts related organizations will provide sound advice and many states have arts related organizations which provide counseling to artists and creators, some have legal organizations, specifically in the business of assisting artists in need. One can contact the federal copyright office as well. it takes research and preserverance to succeed as an artist. And do not be misled by entertainers whom make public appearances with politicians that plagiarize, infringe upon others work, either the politician is not concerned with the government in protecting copyrights, they have no clue “whats going on” or they could be corrupt. Its your right to collect payment for your work, and infringment goes far beyond what one might construe as its actions. Skadden law firm in New York holds lectures on infringment, the detriment to culture and artists on the whole.

    If you feel your information is compromised, email sorted through or any other violation be certain to investigate.
