Dirty Money’s Dawn Readies Solo LP For Fall

Published: Tuesday 8th Mar 2011 by Sam

In news that comes as little surprise, former Danity Kane star Dawn Richard has revealed that she is currently prepping her solo debut  – under the guidance of Diddy.

Set for release this Fall on Bad Boy / Interscope, the as yet untitled LP follows Richard’s critically acclaimed Valentines Day mixtape ‘#ATellTaleHeart’.

Speaking on the record, the Dirty Money staple said: I’ve been incredibly lucky to have been in two amazing groups, but I feel like I’ve never had the opportunity to show the world what I can do on my own” Describing her new sound she says:” It’s soulful, it’s raw, and it’s real”. {Source}

Since the demise of Danity Kane (if not even before), Dawn’s foray into the solo arena has been pretty much a given. Yet while her talent is undeniable (and a credit to a somewhat talent-starved industry), whether folk will be willing to welcome her back with open arms will be interesting to see. Many, after all, have not been able to shake off Diddy’s abrupt disbanding of Danity Kane, nor his arguable preferential treatment towards Dawn.

Are you checking for Ms. Richard?

  2. JJFAN1814 March 8, 2011

Under Diddy?? Poor girl will flop. She’s a fish that’s about to get fried

  3. ThatGirlAdele March 8, 2011

    Yes I love Dawn!!

  4. PLAIN & SIMPLE March 8, 2011

Well we just have to wait and see

  5. JUS’JUS March 8, 2011

I’d hate to say it but the proof is in the pudding. As much as I’d prefer not to like Dawn, her music is hands down amazing!! She’s been able to stick out as a key ingredient in both groups. She can definitely bring alot to the table as a solo artist…

  6. Music4life March 8, 2011

Finally is all that I can say! Her Mixtape was truly superb. Deffinitely alot better than alot of R&B Pop releases of this past year. She’s somethig special and I deffinitely will be buying the LP this Fall. Team Dawn!

  7. Who’s Cedric? March 8, 2011

She’s gonna slay Cedric, that’s for sure.

  8. David Duane March 8, 2011

Dawn is gonna do a amazing job and the album is definitely is gonna sell. Yall just ain’t ready to admit that Dawn is the S*** !!!!

  9. luvey March 8, 2011

Yasss for miss dawn I always wondered why she never did a solo album. Now that she is I’m siked with the right song I’m sure she won’t flop!!!!!

  10. omg March 8, 2011

yes!!!!! I have been waiting for so long. She will kill becdause not onlynis the music great she is a hard worker and is not lazy and she has tons of fans who will support she will be successful so go Dawn!!!!

  11. omg March 8, 2011

escues the typos im eating lol

  12. KNUCK March 8, 2011

The key word here was “soulful”.. This is what we need from her – just keep it real. We heard the songs she was doin before Danity Kane. “So What” is still hott and very urban!

“Lovin you no more” is soooo her style too. It’s R&B but real fresh.

As long as she keeps giving Brandy teas, she will sell and she will remain fresh. I know she doesn’t want people to see it as she sounds like Brandy, but that’s what a lot of people love about her, whether they consciously know it or not.

  13. Aubrey O F***** DAY March 8, 2011

Big mistake! No one is checking for her and I doubt she got more than 20-30,000 downloads for a (somewhat solid) free mixtape. She is talented but being hard working and being hungry for it does not make you solo artist material and I think she needs to go figure out life without Diddy before she gets back in a booth.

  14. TIMMI March 8, 2011

    Goodness gracious no.

  15. GuuuuurrrLLL March 8, 2011

I think she needs more time to find some sort of consistency. I don’t know who she is or what she stands for yet and she has been on my TV for 5-6 yrs now she makes an impact but then looses my attention rapidly and this is not the sign of a successful solo star.

I’d aim for next year because this year will arguable be “All About Aubrey”. Go see the world, join a missionary, have a baby, then come back (minus Diddy) and prove us all wrong.

  16. Criss March 8, 2011

Dawn had some good standout tracks on her mixtape, such as Me, Myself & Y, Bulletproof, Vibrate, Let Love In & Hey.

Im game for a solo profject cause she got the talent. But PLEASSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEE Dawn, no more autotune. U dont need it.

  17. Badd March 8, 2011

she NEEDS to break away from Diddy
her & Janelle Monae…they could be something
if the did and got signed to an acutal label.

  18. eHarris March 8, 2011

1st of all she just wanna compete w/ Aubrey who might not have alot of solo success as far as the music industry goes!! I dnt like Dawn or Dirty-Money so i wont be checking for her but i will be tuned in to tonights premiere of “All About Aubrey”.!

  19. Kelzrowland March 8, 2011

I think all she needs is a good publicist and to have an interesting celebrity boyfriend and she will do fine. I heard the mixtape and it has a lot of solid songs on it.. In addition to her contributions to Dirty Money. I just would recommend her staying with Diddy for more than one solo album!!

  20. Kelzrowland March 8, 2011

    Just wouldn’t recommend **

  21. MISHKA March 8, 2011

That’s what I’m talking about. Great job, Dawn!

The R’n’B scene is pretty empty right now, Dawn can definitely make a big splash if she has the right material.

  22. GuuuuurrrLLL March 8, 2011

Forgot to say Sam & trent can we get some posts on Kalenna of Dirty Money? She is the sound, soul, and effortless charm in Dirty Money and the break out star for me. Even if it was “whos the other girl” people where talking more about Kalenna than Dawn or Diddy.

She is working on an album and gives so much personalty in her one on one interviews. Need to see and hear more from this one.

  23. MISHKA March 8, 2011

And I have to agree with KelzRowland :NO TO A COLLABORATION WITH DIDDY. I like the man but he’s successful in anything but managing music careers.

I would also recommend Dawn to drop the stiff image she developped under Dirty Money. we want to see a warm and youthful Dawn , the one who was in DK.

A famous boyfriend would definitely be useful . *sorry Q*

  24. KaVion March 8, 2011

    ESPECIALLY Janelle Monae!

  25. dabest March 8, 2011

I wonder why this announcement comes on the SAME day ALL ABOUT AUBREY premiers? Someone mad?

If Diddy is supervising the project expect it to be delayed atleast 2 years.

  26. BENJAMIN March 8, 2011

As Diddy’s pet project, I don’t know. Under different management, maybe.

  27. omg March 8, 2011

janelle monae is in contract where she is in full control of herself and has an agreement with diddy and big boi where she will be put out slowly do to this fickle industry and so she can grow slow and be great.
Im laughing at these silly comments that make no since but ill be quiet today lol

  28. BAA March 8, 2011

  29. re re March 8, 2011

Love Dawn. I will definitely be buying

  30. t March 8, 2011

i feel bad for her aubrey is just the only lucky one dawn is lucky 2 because of dirty mony but still hr solo things is gonna flop to hard she needs other people…like jay-z lol but realy i feel bad for her

  31. jaybarbiebitch March 8, 2011

if you all dont catch the shade you Stevie Wonder blind announce it the same day Aubrey show premieres hmmm but if you know Diddy like i know Diddy he will go all out with this one to one up Aubrey we will see another Making the band dedicated to Dawn making the album top producers writers crazy vids i mean im going to keep it real Diddy has always saw this girl as a money maker hints why he did what he did to DK if you think he not fixing to push this b**** the way Jay did Rihanna yall crazy

  32. omg March 8, 2011

dawn what do you have to say? C:\Users\owner\Pictures\dawn shake.gif

  33. omg March 8, 2011

    damn it didnt work lol

  34. MrIncredible March 8, 2011

No… not checking for Dawn. She can sing but she doesn’t have an interesting personality nor is she attractive enuff to be a solo act. #keepingitreal

  35. AuntieJackie March 8, 2011

I don’t know, I like her but I agree with poster above @Mrincredible

She doesn’t really have that “it” factory, something unique for me to remember her by.

  36. sdsf March 8, 2011

“Mocha & Milk” is a perfect matc h like “black & white” people

    ——— B lac k Wh it e Fl i rts* C”0m ———-
The most s uccessful interra cial da t ing c lub. If you are still waiting for your sweet “milk” or “mocha”, don’t hesitate to check it !! Don’t let your babie s wait too lon g for you !!

  37. SMH March 8, 2011

And knowing Diddy, for every $1.00 she makes, he’ll take 95 cents.

  38. shandy March 8, 2011

I don’t know why folks are comparing Aubrey and Dawn. One (Dawn) is trying to become a respected singer/songwriter and the other is trying to be the next it girl in Hollywood. These Aubrey fans are acting as if her having a reality show ( which by the way they are giving to any and everyone) is going to guarantee this chic some type of future success in the music business. The truth is they are both practically unknown and both are trying to find there place in the entertainment business. If you are looking for entertainment then you will keep your eye on Aubrey. If you are looking for an music artist without all the gimmicks then you will watch for Dawn. Either way I wish both girls luck!

  40. Shawn152 March 8, 2011

I’ll check it out cause I love all things DK but as much as it pains me to say I don’t think she will do well and NOT because she isn’t talented but because at the end of the day the only careers diddy ever gave a damn about is his & big’s

  41. LEGENDTINA4LIFE March 8, 2011

She needs to get her hair back

  42. posh March 8, 2011

dawn can sing.. and i like her voice.. but her personality…thats TBD… its something i just cant get w/ her.. ugh would i buy the album no…not @ all.. i think she was the true reason behind the break up…

I’m checkin for her. Always will be.

  44. jazz March 8, 2011

A tell tale heart is bomb…but if she’s coming out under Diddy’s management…yea she will flop…if she was with another record label she would definitely shine! I LOVE DAWN, however she needs the right management to succeed in the business

  45. Beystanbish March 8, 2011

Ain’t no body checking for bug eye Aubrey ho’day. Cut that s*** out right now.

  46. La’Wayne March 8, 2011

I’m so excited …i know it’ll be great..the mixtape is off the f***** chain #IMJUSTSAYING

  47. Robier March 8, 2011

    Lord she gonna flop hard

  48. Speechless March 8, 2011

LOL yall still got Ciara’s name is your mouths huh? Sad how you call someone a flop yet you keep talking about her. Your promoting her right now. Thanks for that!

  49. Mia March 8, 2011

Dawn is the truth period point blank! Face it she was all around the best in Danity Kane. Not only can this child sing she can dance and act plus on top of all that she has a killer swag. This whole new look that she has been sporting for dirty money looks great. I also love the fact that she is humble.

  50. Yellow Gorillah March 8, 2011

Ok Nobody can say dawn is not talanted because that is a lie
But to be honest I can’t see her doing anything big as a solo artist
she will have great music for sure but I feel like
her looks and personality just aint cutting it nobody knows who dawn is.

Look at this way do yo think she will be up there with Beyonce and Rihanna

Plus there is going to be so much compertition with her and aubrey.

  51. SipDatBoyz March 8, 2011

I love dawn..her mixtape had some bangas! ill definately be checking for her!

  52. Mely B March 8, 2011

To the posters stating “nobody is checking for Dawn”, obviously YOU are or you wouldn’t have taken time out of your life to comment. I grew to like Dawn over the years and anybody, especially a Black woman doing something creative and soulful in the r&b genre is going to get my support and attention.

Everybody keeps talking about how bad the music industry is doing and how sad it is that style & “swagger” have replaced true talent but it’s up to consumers to set trends by what we buy or don’t buy. Hopefully the pendulum that’s swung so far to the left will go back to the middle so that people of talent can shine as well as those who have little to no singing talent but plenty of “swag”.

  53. GuuuuurrrLLL March 8, 2011

People do not like DIddy because of his shady ass and because of this and Aubreys feistiness Aubrey will have most of the public and industry rooting for her. Dawn and her connection to Diddy will hold her back, people loved Danity Kane more than Diddy or even the girls imagined and they will never forgive Diddy and Dawn for how the group ended.

If fans saw a change in Dawn if she let go of the barriers between her and the girls and started to show some remorse for poor judgment then maybe she’d have a chance building bridges with fans and the girls.

  54. Maybe I would check for her March 8, 2011

Dawn needs to really take her time to develop herself as a person and personality before she considers any solo career.

She needs a big machine behind her and then some real ass music like champion, hey, let love and most definitely Bulletproof type s***. Some anthems with Adele like lyrical content.

  55. She needs MAJOR PEOPLE March 8, 2011

She has moments where she is actually quite stunning but there is something about Dawn that she could trade on. There is something a bit dark about her and quite mysterious, with the right team they could work on that and make her really intriguing.

That kind of Rihanna after the beat down kinda thing, lol. Disappear and come back under a cloud of rumors with some dope music (not that rated r s***).

  56. Shes got the talent… March 8, 2011

She just needs to be real! and get herself a great team of good God fearing people *cough* not Diddy *cough* and be in the same mind frame as Aubrey seems to be in… flaws and all. Show a more creative and engaging side to her that will set her apart from her mainstream competition.

Failing that maybe a Jay Z/Kanye/R Patz/Beiber love connection rumor, O_O. 2nd thoughts the Bey, Beiber, and R Patz stans would hunt her down and kill her.

  57. REAL MUZIK FANATIC March 8, 2011

I like Dawn’s voice. Probably because she copies mostly every riff and run from Brandy.

I don’t know, I like her but I agree with poster above @Mrincredible

She doesn’t really have that “it” factory, something unique for me to remember her by.
Aunty Jackie , you have just proven to be a hypocrite of epic proportions, how can you criticize an artist for not having that”it” factor then turn around and criticize Rhianna for relying solely on looks, an “it” factor and having a mold-able image. I hardly comment on this site but people like you make me sick to my stomach. I am far from being a Rhianna stan but you are clearly as unstable as water. Pick a side and stick to it.

  59. Humbleurself March 8, 2011

Dawn is a really nice girl but she remind me of Keyshia Cole when she first came out with the nasty attitude and fake as hell and I dont know why her fans dont see it, and thats why I stay picking with them.

  60. ftab March 8, 2011

I wonder how many people making comments have listened to Dawn’s mixtape. I am wondering because if you think her mixtape is not good than I think some of these negative comments would make sense. But as it relates to music if you listen to the mixtape and you like good music she has at least 2 songs you will like. The other thing is, before you talk about Dawn in comparison to anyone else watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5hEMQncZTs. See Dawn can sing, dance, write, she is beautiful, she is positive, and she works hard. What more do you want? Everyone is entitled to your opinion but please let it be informed. Listen to the mixtape and then make a judgment. http://www.dawnrichardblog.com. I get if you don’t like her music, but this negativity to her and all other artist have to stop.

  61. Bijan March 9, 2011

I like her. its not a competition with aubrey so stop making it.

  62. dilusional March 9, 2011

Because they are just as dilusional as the girl the stan for.

She needs to sit down somewhere and get herself together. I don’t thinks she is fake I just think she tries too damn hard to be interesting and it comes across as fake and uncomfortable to watch. Shes quite awkward and quirky, usually I like that but she just seems uncomfortable in her own skin.

  63. URGH March 9, 2011

People “like” Dawn or REALLY “hate” her but they don’t “love” her. In order to do well in this industry people have to either love your message, aspire to be you and want to screw you. Dawn doesn’t give any of that. She knows no one is checking for her but she is too head strong to admit it and too determined to prove everyone wrong, when she should be looking at what it is about her that turns people off.

  64. PLEASE! March 9, 2011

For the HATERS! Dawn mixtape is AMAZING from start to finish, and she wrote all the lyrics. Plus her mixtape have over 1 MILLION downloads already! That goes to show you how many people LOVE IT! Dawn has been with Diddy for awhile now. I’m pretty DAMN SURE she ain’t that stupid to allow Diddy to get over on her. If she felt that way she would have walked by now. Also, she is naturally TALENTED so she can always take her talent somewhere else. I know one thing when that album drops I’m buying it! THE HELL WITH DIDDY! ! SUPPORT REAL MUSIC! REAL TALK! And For you HATER’S out there that continue to hate on Dawn get a life, because she’s killing yall asses right now!!!! 🙂

  65. I KEEP’S IT REAL! March 9, 2011

  66. WOW! March 9, 2011

  67. Cheers (Drink to That) March 10, 2011

YAY, glad to hear she’s got a solo album coming out… but under Diddy? o_0

I truly fear for her future!
