In news that comes as little surprise, former Danity Kane star Dawn Richard has revealed that she is currently prepping her solo debut – under the guidance of Diddy.
Set for release this Fall on Bad Boy / Interscope, the as yet untitled LP follows Richard’s critically acclaimed Valentines Day mixtape ‘#ATellTaleHeart’.
Speaking on the record, the Dirty Money staple said: I’ve been incredibly lucky to have been in two amazing groups, but I feel like I’ve never had the opportunity to show the world what I can do on my own” Describing her new sound she says:” It’s soulful, it’s raw, and it’s real”. {Source}
Since the demise of Danity Kane (if not even before), Dawn’s foray into the solo arena has been pretty much a given. Yet while her talent is undeniable (and a credit to a somewhat talent-starved industry), whether folk will be willing to welcome her back with open arms will be interesting to see. Many, after all, have not been able to shake off Diddy’s abrupt disbanding of Danity Kane, nor his arguable preferential treatment towards Dawn.

I’d hate to say it but the proof is in the pudding. As much as I’d prefer not to like Dawn, her music is hands down amazing!! She’s been able to stick out as a key ingredient in both groups. She can definitely bring alot to the table as a solo artist…
Finally is all that I can say! Her Mixtape was truly superb. Deffinitely alot better than alot of R&B Pop releases of this past year. She’s somethig special and I deffinitely will be buying the LP this Fall. Team Dawn!

The key word here was “soulful”.. This is what we need from her – just keep it real. We heard the songs she was doin before Danity Kane. “So What” is still hott and very urban!
“Lovin you no more” is soooo her style too. It’s R&B but real fresh.
As long as she keeps giving Brandy teas, she will sell and she will remain fresh. I know she doesn’t want people to see it as she sounds like Brandy, but that’s what a lot of people love about her, whether they consciously know it or not.
Big mistake! No one is checking for her and I doubt she got more than 20-30,000 downloads for a (somewhat solid) free mixtape. She is talented but being hard working and being hungry for it does not make you solo artist material and I think she needs to go figure out life without Diddy before she gets back in a booth.

I think she needs more time to find some sort of consistency. I don’t know who she is or what she stands for yet and she has been on my TV for 5-6 yrs now she makes an impact but then looses my attention rapidly and this is not the sign of a successful solo star.
I’d aim for next year because this year will arguable be “All About Aubrey”. Go see the world, join a missionary, have a baby, then come back (minus Diddy) and prove us all wrong.
Dawn had some good standout tracks on her mixtape, such as Me, Myself & Y, Bulletproof, Vibrate, Let Love In & Hey.

I think all she needs is a good publicist and to have an interesting celebrity boyfriend and she will do fine. I heard the mixtape and it has a lot of solid songs on it.. In addition to her contributions to Dirty Money. I just would recommend her staying with Diddy for more than one solo album!!

The R’n’B scene is pretty empty right now, Dawn can definitely make a big splash if she has the right material.
Forgot to say Sam & trent can we get some posts on Kalenna of Dirty Money? She is the sound, soul, and effortless charm in Dirty Money and the break out star for me. Even if it was “whos the other girl” people where talking more about Kalenna than Dawn or Diddy.
She is working on an album and gives so much personalty in her one on one interviews. Need to see and hear more from this one.
And I have to agree with KelzRowland :NO TO A COLLABORATION WITH DIDDY. I like the man but he’s successful in anything but managing music careers.
I would also recommend Dawn to drop the stiff image she developped under Dirty Money. we want to see a warm and youthful Dawn , the one who was in DK.

I don’t know why folks are comparing Aubrey and Dawn. One (Dawn) is trying to become a respected singer/songwriter and the other is trying to be the next it girl in Hollywood. The truth is they are both practically unknown and both are trying to find there place in the entertainment business. If you are looking for entertainment then you will keep your eye on Aubrey. Dawn is the truth period point blank! Face it she was all around the best in Danity Kane. Not only can this child sing she can dance and act plus on top of all that she has a killer swag. This whole new look that she has been sporting for dirty money looks great. I also love the fact that she is humble.

To the posters stating “nobody is checking for Dawn”, obviously YOU are or you wouldn’t have taken time out of your life to comment. I grew to like Dawn over the years and anybody, especially a Black woman doing something creative and soulful in the r&b genre is going to get my support and attention.
Everybody keeps talking about how bad the music industry is doing and how sad it is that style & “swagger” have replaced true talent but it’s up to consumers to set trends by what we buy or don’t buy. Hopefully the pendulum that’s swung so far to the left will go back to the middle so that people of talent can shine as well as those who have little to no singing talent but plenty of “swag”.
People do not like DIddy because of his shady ass and because of this and Aubreys feistiness Aubrey will have most of the public and industry rooting for her. Dawn and her connection to Diddy will hold her back, people loved Danity Kane more than Diddy or even the girls imagined and they will never forgive Diddy and Dawn for how the group ended.
If fans saw a change in Dawn if she let go of the barriers between her and the girls and started to show some remorse for poor judgment then maybe she’d have a chance building bridges with fans and the girls.
Dawn needs to really take her time to develop herself as a person and personality before she considers any solo career.
She needs a big machine behind her and then some real ass music like champion, hey, let love and most definitely Bulletproof type s***. Some anthems with Adele like lyrical content.
She has moments where she is actually quite stunning but there is something about Dawn that she could trade on. There is something a bit dark about her and quite mysterious, with the right team they could work on that and make her really intriguing.
That kind of Rihanna after the beat down kinda thing, lol. Disappear and come back under a cloud of rumors with some dope music (not that rated r s***).
She just needs to be real! and get herself a great team of good God fearing people *cough* not Diddy *cough* and be in the same mind frame as Aubrey seems to be in… flaws and all. Show a more creative and engaging side to her that will set her apart from her mainstream competition.
Failing that maybe a Jay Z/Kanye/R Patz/Beiber love connection rumor, O_O. 2nd thoughts the Bey, Beiber, and R Patz stans would hunt her down and kill her.
