Britney Spears was once major force on the Billboard charts but now it seems that her ability to sell records has diminished along with her skills on the dance floor. Indeed, after only 1 week at #1, her ‘Femme Fatale’ album has already been replaced.
However, the LP was not evicted from the top spot by a new release; it was forced out by Adele’s ’21’ which returns to the summit of tally after 8 weeks on the chart. It seems that lights in Spears’ circus have begun to dim.
Spears’ ‘Fatale’ sold a mere 76k this week, representing a striking 73% dip in sales. The album now sits at #2 on the Billboard 200 behind ’21’ which moved another 88k units and became the 1st album of 2011 to sell more than 1 million copies in the US (1.03 million to be exact).
Further down the list, Wiz Khalifa’s ‘Rolling Papers’ slipped from #2 to #5 with 59k (down 70%) and Chris Brown’s ‘F.A.M.E’ dropped from #4 to #6 with 51k (down 44%). Lastly, Kirk Franklin’s ‘Hello Fear’ experienced a minor sales decrease, falling 1 spot to #10 with 31k (down 33%).

Adele isn’t a new artist. This is her second album.
thrilled to see Adele back at #1. She writes her own songs and can sing. You can’t say that about Britney spears. Adele’s album is real, honest and from her heart. There is no use of that autotune crap either which is a huge plus. Adele’s album has such a wide appeal. it appeals to people of all ages (as young as 16 and even as old as 62) which is helping it sell very well. Britney Spears has a narrow appeal. At this stage she would not be picking up new fans. I myself have a musical background and I will say that adele shows such passion and love for her craft. She also shows that you do not have to be a skinny blonde who dances around a lip syncs to have a career in music. she shows that you do not have to be blonde or skinny. She shows that it is ok to be yourself as an artist. It is true, real and honest. I am very happy for her success. She deserves it.

… anyways, I’m real proud of the success that 21 is having. If she outsells all my faves, that wouldn’t bother me in the slightest. She deserves all the success she gets. She’s an incredibly talented artist, and 21 is quite honestly one of the best albums I’ve ever heard in my life. That album could’ve held its own against others if it had come out 40 years ago. And enjoyed the same success.

In the couple of weeks Brit will have a gold album and I believe within a couple of months this album will be platinum. Femme Fatale is a slower seller for Brit but every artist expiriences this sort thing. The album has plenty of hits on it that will keep the sales going, she also has a tour lined up.

What do Britney stans get out of hating on other artists? Last year the Christina Aguilera stans were hating on every other female artist who had an album that outsold bionic. The behavior of those stans destroyed her career. Perhaps the Britney stans could take a hint. Hating on other artists might bring britney down. At this point she does not have a large fanbase and it ain’t going to see any expansion. She has a small fanbase of stans who live for everything she does. It would not surprise me if they spent all day following britney related news, voting in online polls to get her to win and going on blogs to talk trash about other artists.
