Adele Breaks Mind Blowing Record

Published: Wednesday 6th Jul 2011 by David

Adele must be wondering exactly how much positive karma she built up for herself in another life, for today she has received another bountiful blessing from the Pop Culture gods.

As if her record breaking sales for LP ‘21‘  weren’t enough to cement her as this decades reigning album chart Queen, today she received even more news that has seen her change the course of music history.

Find out what she has achieved below…

Her single ‘Someone Like You’ is the first single of the decade to sell 1,000,000 copies in the UK, trumping the efforts of close rival Lady GaGa.

Since the year of 2000, only 16 singles have ever achieved this feat which include GaGa’s ‘PokerFace’ and ‘I Gotta Feeling’ by the Black Eyed Peas.

This new comes just weeks after it was confirmed that her album ’21’ was the first LP to also shift a million units this year and has now sold a total of 2.6 million copies.

This led to her debut album ’19’ shifting a further 800,000 copies this year alone even without a single promotional effort behind it.

With Adele being one of the only artists to maintain a highly perceived artistic credibility whilst enjoying enormous chart success, it is worth wondering if her success is a clear and very harsh response from the public to the seemingly never ending list of talent deficient starlets.

For it is ironic that is the girl who does not fit the aesthetic or even sonic mould of what a Pop star should be, is leaping heaps and bounds above her manufactured competitors who have failed to match her commercial prowess despite all their gimmick ridden efforts.

Here’s to hoping that Adele’s success inspires the emergence of a  new generation of artists whose talent lies in their artistic attributes and not their ability to alternate between wigs and lip sync tweaked and polished  vocals into unsuspecting microphones.

Excellent. Good for this fat b****.

She doesn’t have s*** on Rihanna though. But she admitted to being a Rihanna fan, so this fat sack of s*** is cool in my book.

  2. JUDAS666 July 6, 2011

Oh please stop making this average singer/better songwriter look like she broke the records of true legends. Her sales dont even pale in comparison to artists in the 80’s 90’s and even 2000’s. What she should be doing is lose the weight. Then maybe she can actually move on the stage and give better stage presence and show than the boring fat chic sitting in a chair at a mic. YAWN, zzzzzzzzz!!

    *SIT*

    RIP Gaga the hoax 😉

  4. WHO RUN THE FLOP? Bey! July 6, 2011

21 – ALBUM OF THE DECADE!

    BEYONCE SHOULD FEEL PANIC !!!

  5. Diamond July 6, 2011

Though I commend her for being talented, I don’t get this adele obsession. She isn’t that great but neither is beyonce, gaga, rihanna, britney. I wouldn’t say anyone of this era thrives towards the MJ’s of excellence except prince and janet jackson. But I’d say people must be desperate to get away from the bubblegum pop stuff. That’s why she’s sellling cuz I find it hard to believe this generation knows anything about real music. A chubby, caucasion english person that can sing averagely doesn’t impress me on the artistry level. She’s talented but dull. She’ll fade into the shadows soon unlike gaga who is constantly innovative.

  6. dashia July 6, 2011

@to the trick that said queenbey should feel panic lmao..nope cause adele even said that queenbey is her idol she looks up to beyonce ..and your point is*crickets*

  7. bey’knight July 6, 2011

TGJ u confused me a for a minute. you should point out the territory i.e. UK cus singles go platinum in US all the time but congrats to adele though. her music is speaking for itself. i cant help but juxtapose her next to gaga- polar opposites

    @Diamond

the societal decay u speak of is not limited to the music industry only, if we keep comparing music to those of yesteryears, we’ll never derive satisfaction from it. i think the most we can do is that display a glimmer of what real music sounded like. what do u think of gaga’s album; there were 80s vibes on it and beyonce had lotsof throwback to MJ, 70s/80s/90s era. that’s slightly uplifting, isnt it?

  8. Imgunnacheckuboo July 6, 2011

I don’t think Adele and Gaga are “rivals” necessarily. But good for her though.

  9. Royalkev July 6, 2011

I have to confess that I did get a little bored with Adele, but out of all the new talent – she’s most deserving for all this praise and attention. I’m glad she’s starting the decade off on the right foot.

If only they would release “Someone Like You” in the US already. “Rolling in the Deep” has been #1 forever . If they don’t I smell a backlash.

  11. Christinasreturn July 6, 2011

    you queens are f****** cruel!

Rihanna has how many albums out yet none of them have hit # 1 in tbe US? rihanna is skinnier than adele but she cant sing or dance either. gaga is not innovative either. she jacks everything ahes inspired from and tries to pass it as her own.

gosh this f****** generation of tweens who are obsessed with rihanna and gaga

  12. bey’knight July 6, 2011

think the most we can do is that display a glimmer of what real music sounded like.

    mean to be:

think the most we can do is support those that display a glimmer of what real music sounded like.

  13. nice_gurl July 6, 2011

I’m glad that the album did well, because it did have some good music. But people give her way too much credit for her vocals. She’s good but nothing like the vocals of Beyonce, Mariah or even Toni Braxton, especially not her live singing. But congrats because at least it had some listenable music.

  14. I DONT HAVE TO PROVE ANYTHING TO ANYBODY July 6, 2011

@Lolita U just mad because Adele is slaying R**** on the charts. That w**** wishes she had talent like Adele. I dont see anybody other than R**** navy saying R**** is talentive. R**** whole fanbase is nothing but children, that know nothing about music. B**** why dont u go buy one of R****’s albums because the b**** has only sold 6million albums in the USA bwahahhahahah FLOP B****! @Who Run This Flop Aww U mad that KING B will sell more than ur fav without a smash hit Bwahahahahahha STAY MAD B****!

  15. JohnVidal July 6, 2011

    Congrats to her!
But TGJ needs to step its game. How can they post an article like this and not say they are refering to the UK market???
    I was confused like @bey’knight

  16. G.dee July 6, 2011

Am happy for her but I think her concert would be boring after four songs when it start sounding sammie.

  17. I DONT HAVE TO PROVE ANYTHING TO ANYBODY July 6, 2011

I know one thing, if Adele’s talent usher n people wanting more talent on the charts…….um BYE BYE BYE S****** and R****! Adele has more talent in her toenails than those whores have n their whole body! They are nothing but gimmick whores, who rely on producers making danceable pop hits for them. You whores should show us some vocal techniques. And J-no is another one that will be looking for another job if talent returns to the chart.

  18. aisha aguilera keys July 6, 2011

    Congrats! Applause!

“For it is ironic that is the girl who does not fit the aesthetic or even sonic mould of what a Pop star should be, is leaping heaps and bounds above her manufactured competitors who have failed to match her commercial prowess despite all their gimmick ridden efforts.”

    SO TRUE!

  19. Jane July 6, 2011

Lawd have mercy why can’t no one who comments on this site give credit where credit is due! I’ve seen “fat b****”, “sack of s***” and ppl comparing her to folks in the 80s. One: this isn’t the 80s hun, long ass time ago (GTFO) 2: she isn’t the same as the trash coming out now, give her credit for that s*** (being different…successfully)…and 3: if you’re not f***** her you shouldn’t be worried about her weight (GTFO)

  20. Those That Cannot Do, Stan July 6, 2011

Haha, wow at the ugliness that comes out of folks. You sure need to talk weight because you can’t talk talent or success.

Rihanna had to damn near pop the p**** off her body and still can’t do it.

  21. HEAVYMETALLOVER July 6, 2011

It’s a great thing that she’s so successfull: she has no longer excuse to produce another boring depressiv sentimental songs : )

    Pure Bull*
Adele is manufactured by SONY to fit the demand of the mid-aged women!
She has the vocal but her creativity it’s near zero.
And creativity is what’s the most important in art, not only natural talent!

  23. truciebedford July 6, 2011

    @lolita
    what are you? like 15?

  24. YOOSONDALOOSE July 6, 2011

Grow some respect @LOLITA she is a great singer and is very down to earth!

  25. Truth Seeker July 6, 2011

Congratulations to Adele. Personally, I don’t get the hype. Aside from RITD, I found 21 much like 19 a tepid effort. If one doesn’t think that Adele isn’t manufactured, than think again. She has been billed as the anti-Gaga, a mere coverup for the pseudo-intellectuals who cling to what’s currently in, all the while secretly playing ‘Born This Way’.

This isn’t to knock Adele, after all it is not her fault that she has been put on a pedestal much like, Jones, Winehouse, Boyle. I just hope that the Gaga turncoats will still be here for Adele after the Grammy’s afterglow dims and she takes a turn outside of her depressing formulaic offerings and media brown nosing.

  26. QW July 6, 2011

@ DIAMOND, i feel what youre saying cause I feel the same way. Only Janet and Prince are on that level of excellence, that needs to be said cause often times the younger ones tend to disrespect what is a true ICON and what is honestly and purely LEGENDARY AND EPIC. Thanks for that, and I also feel like some others are not even great AT ALL but hype helps them, thats sad. All I can say is that I am so glad and proud to have been born in the 80’s, 81 to be exact! P.S., I’m listening to Janet Jactson , Comeback to Me, on YouTube as type. I keep REAL MUSIC close to my ears. Anywho, confratulations to Adele, what an amazing acomplishment!

  27. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) July 6, 2011

    Congratulations to her.
@TGJ staff Change the course of music history??? Music history cannot be changed by sales

  28. that_lala July 6, 2011

this girl just killed two birds with one stone! This is who everyone should be talking about!

  29. I DONT HAVE ANYTHING TO PROVE TO ANYBODY July 6, 2011

@Heavymetallover GTFOH with that bull! Its more about natural talent. Adele creativity is her VOICE! Her voice alone slays the gimmick whores! I bet u stan for one of them too. Ur ass is just mad cause Adele is slaying b****** left and rite. She may be fat but she is a fat b**** with talent unlike R****, S******, Messha and Katy. And why are Gaga fans mad? LMAO Adele doesnt have to use gimmicks to sell records LMAO Her VOICE does the selling LmAO

THIS GENERATION OF GAY TWEENS WHO ARE OBSEESED WITH GAGA AND RIHANNA, AND ABUSES THE WORD “FLOP”

  31. SWEXY July 6, 2011

white woman ( from England ) singing soul music better than the current black soul artists = pop and R&B ( and country) success….. marketers dream. I prefer DUFFY!!!

  32. Robier July 6, 2011

The whole public purchasing >>>>> music catered to one sector
The anger and words are really laughable and explain a lot

  33. nikki July 6, 2011

Adele is dope…most of u are delusional….If u don’t think this woman is talented, I would hate to hear the s*** u listen to…

  34. King B July 6, 2011

“With Adele being one of the only artists to maintain a highly perceived artistic credibility whilst enjoying enormous chart success, it is worth wondering if her success is a clear and very harsh response from the public to the seemingly never ending list of talent deficient starlets.”

I’ve adored her since when she first burst onto the scene three years ago, but even I’ve wondered myself lately if the main reason for her unexpected mass popularity is because people are rebelling against pop stars. Of course I’m not suggesting that she isn’t that talented or her music isn’t that great (I consider “21” to be easily one of the best albums released in a decade), but when I visit some messageboards, I do see people touting her as “the anti-Gaga”, “the anti-Rihanna”, “the anti-Katy Perry” and such. I really hope that people are supporting her because they genuinely appreciate her talent and music, not out of spite. Because if it’s the latter, then that makes her success rather fleeting.

  35. ON88 July 6, 2011

@Lolita b****, pay respect Rihanna wished she had the talent this “fat b****” has. Go sit down little girl or boy whatever you are. Troll.

  36. FlopJuice July 6, 2011

I CANNOT UNDERSTAND why people say to this or that or any album that it is the Album of the Decade!?!?!?!

We are in the FIRST / SECOND (depends on the point of view, officially it’s the first) YEAR of the decade, we have to wait 8-9 years more to decide which album / song / whatever is the Album of the Decade…

    wake up delusional silly people…

  37. SHESDUMB THE UNSTOPPABLE SLAYER OF HAIKU July 7, 2011

    CONGRATULATIONS ADELE!

  38. sylvia July 7, 2011

rolling in the deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep …..hmmm she has a good voice and y’all need to stop calling hernames cus she is fat….. not everyone is a slim model!!!!!! http://kelsnetwork.b*******.com/

  39. let the haters hate July 7, 2011

Adele is creative, she writes her own songs and last time i checked it takes creativity to write your own songs. Its funny because people say that real music came out in the 90s and 80s but WE ARE NOT IN THE 90S OR 80S SO WAKE UP!! ADELE IS TALENTED NO MATTER WHERE SHE CAME FROM. YOU HATERS TALKING ABOUT HER SIZE NEED TO SHUT UP AND SUCK IT.

  40. backoffbitch July 11, 2011

Mediocrity is not a word any wise musically universal person would us to describe ADELE. Shes a literal songbird with no Stepbrothers reference intended. I can’t believe that anyone would ever compare her to Rihanna because Rihanna doesnt right her own music nor does she dance or sing well. Rihannas a hot ass braid with a fat ass and a domestic violence scandal, of which she is still riding the coat tails of. I love Rihanna and Gaga along with Beyonce but the only artist I would ever put in ADELE’s league is Beyonce and thats because of her experience. I agree with one of the previous commenters when they say that nothing Gaga comes out with is original, she may put pretty pieces together and have good ideas but nothing is new under the sun. For example the Alexander McQueen Armadillo heals…people thought she was so unique for that, little did everyone know Daphne Quinness did it first. Honestly Gaga’s style is all Daphne Guinness and if you add a naturally excellent voice and mediocre and unnatural dance skills you got Ga. Adele is on there level…MINUS all the frilly flashy DIIISSTRACCTING b*******.

  41. backoffbitch July 11, 2011

BY THE FUUUUCKING WAY @SWEXY, “I PREFER DUFFFY” you sound like a f****** idiot..duffy did f***** mercy and nobody heard from her since and theres a reason for that, wack ass voice live and meaningless repetative lyrics of which when sang have no real emotion behind them. everytime adele sings you can smell how she relates to her lyrics seriously in the room.
