Harajuku Barbie Nicki Minaj got to play dress-up in ‘W’ magazine. Generally known for paying homage to her rap predecessors, this time she took ‘taking a leaf out of the history books’ to a new level in her ever-regal, Francesco Vezzoli snapshots.
The images, which surface just days after the rapstress learned of her American Music Award nominations and revealed plans on album #2, can be found in the famed magazine’s November issue.

Goodness, I’m so impressed by the work that artist did. I love the shoot. He had a real vision for Nicki as well as the ‘powerful women’ idea and he really did a beautiful job. She looks gorge.

Wow…and the fact that the writer pointed it out by basically saying just so that we are clear…this image is nothing more than a glorified prostitute. It never ceases to annoy me how much mainstream media will go out of their way to hyper sexualize and demean the image of a Black woman. I know these woman are willing and consenting…but the media is still the one pushing the agenda. SMH.

Back during this time all women were considered nothing more than maids, comfort women, or tending to their men and caring for children. There were never any women back then that were higher than men so in a sense a prostitute could have had a positive or negative connotation since women were not of worth back then except to be used. The royal ones with dresses like these were a little higher value though.
and you think this is glorified? The women of TODAY would be hung and or executed back then for dressing the way they dress which is bikinis and underwear!
@ Yves I agree it was major shade to choose mistress’s who only power laid in the men that “Kept” them instead of independent powerful woman of Europe. But I would not call Marquise de Montespan a prostitute. I’m a history buff so I easily recognized the portrait where her dress has the green hue. Why not used the regalia portrait of the Empress’s Catherine The Great of Russia or Maria Theresa of the Holy Roman Emplre. Instead they choose mistress’s of the French KIngs and her peers? Empress Elizabeth of Austria has some of the most beautiful portraits I have ever seen.
