2012 is gearing up to be quite for the year for vocal treasure Mariah Carey with the promotional campaign for her brand spanking new album edging closer and closer.

Now, BET has given the song bird more reason to look forward to the coming months.

For they are to honor her for her contributions to Black music and culture at the fourth annual BET Honors Award Ceremony.

Joining Stevie Wonder, Spike Lee and Mike Tyson, Carey’s work will be recognized at the BET Honors 2012 at which she is expected to attend.

    @Sam —

What?! ..Nothing?! ..No two-a-day threads/posts on TGJ’s fave: 30-something year old Kelly Rowland, today?

Well, allow me: So, after now, some FIVE-LOOOONG WEEKS since release, “Here I am” which debuted @#56, is now #43. http://www.theofficialcharts.com/albums-chart/

Just some curious “chart related” ’30-something-year-old Kelly Rowland info.’ Let’s see if we can now “blindly” look away from some glaring, cornea-scalding truths:

2002’s “Simply Deep” spent 26-weeks on the said U.K. Top-100 chart. It peaked at #1.

2007’s “Ms. Kelly” spent 2-weeks on said chart, and peaked at #37.

2008’s “Ms Kelly” (deluxe) spent 3-weeks, and peaked at 23. (theofficialcharts(dotcom)/artist/_/kelly%20rowland/)

And now, 2011 finds “Here I am”, debuting at #56 (and now #43) with now, according to the aforementioned link, FIVE WEEKS SINCE RELEASE!

Needless to say, “Here I am” is fighting a trend/history: “30-something-year-old Kelly Rowland lack-luster chart performance.” It’s curious to see that it took three CDs, “Simply Deep”, Ms Kelly”/”Ms Kelly Deluxe,” for Colombia to finally fire her.

..Sam, do YOU think Universal, and/or X-Factor boss, Simon Cowell, will be as stubborn? For Simon, with the B**’s “Strictly Come Dancing,” now trending-long into X-Factor viewership, I think, given his “win at all costs” mentality, he’ll be a little..”proactive”.

    What sayest thou, Samuel?

    X,Y,”and Z” — OUT..!!

  11. Imgunnacheckuboo December 12, 2011

She can certainly be recognized for her accomplishments as long as they don’t try to paint her as some innovator. She certainly ain’t never blazed a trail. Bland her entire career.

  12. Ms reality Check! December 12, 2011

    @THE GREAT LACEFRONCE.

Girl shut that trap and have several seats!!! R****** won’t be seeing that honor anytime soon. Mariah carey is sooo long overdue for her tributes. 2oyrs in the game(and still counting)

Yas finally I love Mariah Carey but I still think a Janet Jackson tribute is way long overdue. She needs to be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2012 BET Awards.

  19. mel December 12, 2011

    @THE GREAT LACEFRONCE

?????? Are you serious? 21 yrs. in the game >>>>>>>6yrs(rihanna)

Cassie’s first album sold more then rihanna’s first and second albums combined

Mariah Carey albums are worth more then rihanna’s whole career.

Very funny…. Rihanna will definitely NOT be getting an honor between now and 20 years…..so sit!!!!!!!!!

rihanna probably won’t be around in 5 years.

  20. EJ December 12, 2011

    Her????

  21. DMWN December 12, 2011

Just because she’s half-black coz i don’t see another white person been honored for their contributions to BLACK Music, Elvis Presley, Madonna for “Like a Prayer”, Amy…..and the list goes on.

  39. David December 12, 2011

I wonder who’s going to be the line-up because I can’t think of one person out that can touch a MC song…Maybe Leona Lewis…O_0?

  40. Joe December 12, 2011

  41. A Nu Day Has Come December 12, 2011

I get sick of LACEFrOWN with your hating ass, Rihanna is no where near Mariah’s status! When Mariah was making hits, b**** Rihanna was pissin, and shittin in her pampers! People like lacefrown are why people do not f****** like your faves! She can’t sing, she’s over worked, she gets booed act her concerts, she has no musical style that sets her apart from her peers in this time in music! I get f****** tired of you b****** throwing out numbers when we all f****** know that, that s*** does not matter! Til this day Mariah has classics that are still sung by young artist today! Why the f*** do you hate so much, you f***** Pseudoaneurysm looking b****! Why the f*** are you always so mean, you b****????

  46. Rihannastan December 12, 2011

It’s funny how the poster just skipped Whitney being honored in 2010…shade much?

  47. KellyRowlandTheQueen December 12, 2011

Let’s just hope Mariah doesn’t sing, BET does not allow lipping at their ceremonies

  48. White girl mob December 12, 2011

  49. Hellen Keller December 12, 2011

I don’t know what y’all so excited for. BET is doing the tribute which means it is sure to be a mess just like every other one they have done.

I so wish MTV were doing this. Smh. I’m already preparing myself to be disappointed.

Although the tribute is well deserved. BET will do it no justice. Just look how they tried to honor Chaka.

  50. Jayla December 12, 2011

I Agree with the poster who said BET will make a mess out of this…

  51. Alexis Carrington December 12, 2011

The Legend, the Icon, the Only Queen Mariah Carey finally getting accolades long overdue to her. The fact that Alicia and Jamie got it before her is evidence to the foolishness of BET, MTV, VH1 and similar entities in the industry. You have lesser talented b****** out who have received tributes for reasons unknown. Whitney, Janet, Madonna have all gotten some kind of recognition from a major outlet and now Mariah finally gets hers. I hope MTV takes note and does the same. I can’t wait to see who thinks they are brave and talented enough to sign up to sing the Queens songs in the tribute. I can tell you who will be explicitly denied (she’s knows who she is). All hail the Queen!

  52. classy_guy December 13, 2011

Man this is gonna be so interesting because I know no one that can sing a Mariah Carey song!

  53. 0123 December 13, 2011

I’ll be watching something else. I have no desire to see that woman “honored,” as though her “contributions” have been impressive. This is the same flaky b**** that made “Loverboy.”

  54. rory December 13, 2011

    0123 comment:
Yes mariah did the loverboy song…. Sampled Cameo’s Rnb classic and made the 80s track commercial again and gave it new light. Cameo was even in the video.. AND WHAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Children do your homework…. Mariah was the trendsetter in creating Rnb/Pop. She not only mastered the “singer feat. Rapper motif”, “HipHop Ballads” but also didnt make it a gimic but made it music styles. She has used some of the most well known ol skool melodies and beats of the Urban Music Catelogue. The likes of Madonna only use RNB treatments to gain money/ Career Fads.
She has worked with all the greats in the Urban World – Stevie Wonder, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Aretha, Whitney, JD, John Legend, Babyface, Brian Mcknight, Dr Dre, Boyz 2 Men, Luthur and almost every Rapper worth a damn in the music scene.
You bloggers are all haters and nasty people that need some manners and education in voicing a opinion and not just running your mouth and spiting on peoples hard work.
You dont like Mariah? thats cool… Move Along !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mariah and Whitney are the Original and the True Rnb Divas!

  55. LOL December 13, 2011

Mariah is cool, but she did not create R&B/Pop – Ms Dianna Ross was doing it before her and so was Whitney. Stop giving your faves these “Queen” titles when others before them paved that way first .

  56. Alexis Carrington December 13, 2011

@THE GREAT LACEFRONCE, I’m not sure if I should laugh at your humor or cry at your ignorance. Rihanna is literally not even on the radar of Mariah stans like me, nor is she on the radars of stans of whitney, celine, janet, and madonna. I couldn’t even tell you what she does for a living.

@Imgunnacheckuboo, you’re a damn lie! I love people like you keep denying Mariah’s influence and innovations. Did she originate the concept of rapper and singer collaborations? No. However, she is arguably the first mainstream, global artist to do it and make it work. She established a template all these b****** use today. She helped spread hip hop to places it was unknown or at least not heard in the mainstream. Next…

@ DMWN, please name these people. Mariah is a legend and a force to be reckoned with in music. You can choose to deal or not deal, she’s iconic either way. A Kardashian sister? That comparison is laughable. Her talent is obvious and undeniable, just ask every female singer out today. Hell xfactor and american idol exist because of her, whiteny and celine

@Joe, you can’t be talking about lady mariah

@0123, what is your point? How is she flaky? You’ll be watching and that is all that matters; we thank you in advance for the ratings.

  57. LOL December 13, 2011

Also, Mariah hasn’t been receiving these accolades because she has been destroying her legacy with cheap music and fake vocals (not singing live).

I’m willing to bet it was Mariah’s ppl who went to BET and offered them to give Mariah this honor to coincide with her new album – it’s called being honored while promoting (payola).

BET would never overlook Aretha, Gladys, Patti, for Mariah first

  58. Alexis Carrington December 13, 2011

@LOL, Who said Mariah created R&B/Pop? That already existed. Mariah’s influence was hip-pop.

  59. Alexis Carrington December 13, 2011

@LOL, Who said Mariah created R&B/Pop? That already existed. Mariah’s influence was hip-pop. However, make no mistake, Mariah is a Queen. A title she has earned by working not from good PR

  60. Alexis Carrington December 13, 2011

@LOL, that’d be a bet you would lose. Why in the hell would Mariah pay for an honor? The Queen would never. The new album isn’t even in the beginning stages yet so what promo would a BET Honors tribute bring? As a long time Mariah stan, You’re giving me a bitter Whitney fan vibe. Her legacy is cemented so it wont be tarnished by anything she does now. She quite simply can do whatever the hell she wants just like celine, whitney, janet and madonna can because they’ve done it all already and the rest is just play and experimentation. You are just a little too upset at her receiving this recognition for someone who doesn’t fancy her. Which is why I know you’ll be first to sit in front of your tv and watch the Queen. We thank you for your viewership.

  61. LOL December 13, 2011

    @Alexis Carrington

I haven’t listened to anything Mariah had out in the past – almost 10 years! She has disappointed me with her lack of live abilities and her dumbed down music as of late; that is why I say she rarely receives these honors is because she has tormented her own legacy. Mariah has something she is promoting…trust!

You would be surprised at how many of these artists pay for stats, accolades, honors, status etc.

  62. Theman December 13, 2011

@Lol you are pathetic you are on every site and in all of Mariah threads. Don’t you have something to do. If you don’t care about her then go to another thread thread then. You can easily do so. Mariah really really deserves. She’s done some groundbreaking things. She’s just excellent.

  63. JohnVidal December 13, 2011

YESSSS So the general feeling is what I said on my first comment: Mariah, Whitney, Celine and Madonna the 4 biggest b****** EVER. Sorry you have to deal. I don´t even know who these two pressed persons on this post stan for. Goats, unknown guetto girls?

  64. rory December 13, 2011

Whats with all the posts towards mariah miming ???? Yes she does mime a few of her big notes. but Come on people… The true queen of miming is Beyonce…
If you really cant see that then your blind as f***. Watch her performances and Concert DVDs. She always has pre- recorded live vocals, she just as better miming acting

  65. Kingphoenix December 13, 2011

About damn time, Congratz Mariah, BET bet no F this up, I cannot with another boring random awards ceremony… I know Patti will be paying tribute, but imma need for other big voices to come out to (hate to bring up names but is neccesary): Jennifer Hudson (where you at?), Whitney you could do a lil something, If that baby comes out in time Bey you need to carry a little toon too, Fantasia the same as Beyonce, Alicia you need to be on that stage as well, Jill Scott, Ledisi, maybe even Brandy, and no more Marsha ambrosius I Iove her but she does every damn tribute known to God…Im really not for some randoms f****** up Mariah classics we need Sangers.

  66. luva December 13, 2011

Mariah did not even pretend to be BLACK until her career fell off and she needed somewhere to go. Before that she was telling everyone who would listen to call her MULTI-racial. More like her contribution towards the EXPLOITATION of black culture.

  67. dee December 13, 2011

I agree that Janet needs to be acknowledged first. She has been in the industry since a child.

  68. Alexis Carrington December 13, 2011

@Luva, you stepped right out of the early 1990s with that old as slam against the Queen. Mariah has always had a foot in R&B. Just because she also had pop, AC, and dance success doesn’t mean she didn’t have r&B hits. She has an extensive love and knowledge of r&b and hip hop, which is why her samples are always so interesting. As a mariah stan, I’ve encountered this argument many times before from fellow black people who seem to figure the lighter you are the less soul you must have. Hell, whitney is “all black” and she was accused of selling out and being a pop. So would you say that “I’m Your baby Tonight” was Whitney’s attempts to turn to the black community to gain some fame? Sit down with your misguided musings.

@Dee, did you say janet should’ve been acknowledged before Whitney back when BET honored her in 2001? Janet has been honored before, hell she was the first MTV icon. What else do you need? It’s Mariah’s time and to hell with all others.

  69. angel December 13, 2011

@ALEXIS um i have never in my life heard anybody black say the lighter u are the less sould u have. i think ur forgetting how black ppl have always supported ppl like alicia keys, lionel richie, el debarge, and the list goes on.

  70. angel December 13, 2011

    and of course beyonce.

  71. lola December 13, 2011

This is good that she’s being honored. I hope she brings the fire with her new album. She hasn’t had a good album ever since The Emancipation of Mimi.

  72. luva December 13, 2011

@ALEXIS CARRINGTON, you sound like a fool. RACE has NOTHING to do with what kind of music you make. A person can sing polka and still be black. Mariah is no black and she always went out of her way to make sure people referred to her as “MULTI-RACIAL.” Even going as far as to say that her father was BI-RACIAL. When she wanted the black vote she started pretending to be a black woman. She knows nothing about being black and she did not do a thing for black culture or black people. She was happy to be WHITE during the years of her career that actually mattered.

  73. luva December 13, 2011

“The Only Reason I am Considered Black is because of a Legal Technicality” – Mariah Carey

  74. Alexis Carrington December 13, 2011

@luva, you’re ignorant. She never pandered to one particular race for hits. She has always stated her love of urban culture since the early days of her career. You’re quote is taken out of context, she was explaining why she sides more with her black ethnicity. If “white fame” was what she was after and what worked for her why would she abandon that for “black fame”? You’re gonna have to work harder if you think you’re about to school me on Mariah; I have a PhD in Careyology. How she chooses to identify is her business. So is she considers herself blk, bi-racial, white, or latina it is her prerogative. As long as people still break a sweat over you as well as spend tine and money on you you still matter-which you clearly prove. What do you mean she doesn’t know anything about being black? What does that even mean? An ethnicity/race is not the same as a culture, which is why people like Eminem exist. It would behoove you to take an introductory sociology course at your local community college. You’re showing the limits of your education on this post.

  75. Tomtom December 18, 2011

Good on Mariah! She deserves some recognition for what an outstanding talented artist she is !! She is one of the few naturally talented singer/ song writer/ producer/ artist / role model / inspirations of our time who should be honoured !! I can’t wait to hear her next Album, going to be amazing for sure 2012 🙂 L4L Love you Mimi !
