Much to the dismay of many-an-earplug seller, despite reports of new music on the horizon, Bajan beauty Rihanna took to the U.K.’s Jonathan Ross to announce she is taking a departure from recording to focus on acting. The ‘We Found Love’ wailer has seemingly found her work on the forthcoming Peter Berg-directed film ‘Battleship’ (May 18th) as inspiration to ‘jump ship’ (temporarily, so to speak).
A move that is undoubtedly unfamiliar to the songstress given that she has acted like she could sing for the last 6 years. Alas, the interview, set to air tomorrow night, also found the ‘Birthday Cake’ creator serve up news on a number of other topics.
Singing Adele‘s praises (fortunately not literally), chatting more on ‘BattleShip’, and dishing of her ‘type of man’, see pics and a preview of her ‘Talk That Talk’ performance after the jump:

“I don’t have time off but I am not recording.”
“This year I want to delve more into the movie industry, I had a little experience with Battleship. I had a great time the first time so I want to continue picking the right roles so I can master them and see what happens.”
‘I just want to pick films that are wise for me and roles that I can pull off, nothing that is too big for me. I love doing movies now. It’s something I want to do more of.”

I’m sure all of such is too good to be true. Given she does have Jay Z as a mentor (who has come out of retirement how many times now…?), it’s safe to say our 2012 will still be filled with more goodies from your favorite Barbadian yodeler and mine. For as we all know, the exclusion of new recordings certainly does not exclude the promotion(s) of current recordings.
Fans can catch the full interview and performances as they air tomorrow night. The news surfaces shortly after her joint effort with former boyfriend Chris Brown ‘Birthday Cake’ (remix) hit Billboard charts at #63 this week.
