New Song: Tony Bennett – ‘Steppin’ Out With My Baby ( Ft Christina Aguilera)’

Published: Tuesday 16th Oct 2012 by David

Tony Bennett finds himself in the company of Christina Aguilera this time around, one year after collaborating with her fellow chart topper Lady GaGa, on ‘The Lady Is A Tramp‘.

Pulled from the veteran’s ‘Viva Duets’ album, the jam features stellar vocals from both parties, boasting the range and  control many hope to hear on Christina‘s forthcoming album ‘Lotus‘.

Listen below…

Though some might hate to admit, it’s clear Christina stole the show here, showcasing the restraint some of her earlier could have been – but wasn’t- afforded.

With the release  ‘Lotus’ now a matter of weeks ago, we seriously hope her vocals sound just as clean as they do here- a reminder as to why she is and will forever remain ‘The Voice‘.

It’s a great song! this b**** thirsty for a hit!

  2. mr.m October 16, 2012

Her voice shits all over your fav. PERIOD

    • MRDIVABITCH October 16, 2012

Sadly, her “good voice” is limited to that tiny 5 note range. Below that it’s a foggy mess, above it is a strained flat mess.

      • irene46 October 16, 2012

there’s not a single thing sad about a 5 note range when a singer sounds that good. every good singer doesn’t need a bag full of acrobatic techniques to be considered a great singer.

christina needs to do more holding it down as she did in this song.

      • MRDIVABITCH October 16, 2012

        Exactly!!!!!!!!

One of my favorite singers was Judy Garland, who had a limited range (less than 2 octaves), but my goodness…what a wondeful singer she was.

The same way, I believe Christina can be a great singer if she stays within her means. That doesn’t mean she can’t (someday) do all the vocal acrobatics she thinks she can pull off, but at this moment and stage of development, she really can’t pull them off so well, so she should do what she does well…such as in this recording.

It’s one of the very best vocal performances I’ve heard of her 🙂

      • O.L.B October 16, 2012

LMAO at Limited to a 5 note range. Bi%ch!! do you even know what your talking about? Christina Aguilera is a beast in the vocal department. No one can see her right now. She is in a league of her own. Now who’s your fave? Yeah she sings better than that heiffer too. Have a seat!!

      • mr.m October 16, 2012

        5 note range??? gurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Xtina IS THE BEST SINGER OF OUR GENERATION ..
You know nothin about her voice so #DEAL

      • all4u1 October 16, 2012

Christina is a very gifted vocalist, with a 4 octave range, sometimes 5. Her riffs and runs are executed precisely. Also, she was praised by many legendary vocalist. Whether you love her or hate her, she’s still the voice of her generation!

        So stay pressed haters!

    • MRDIVABITCH October 16, 2012

      @ Mr.M

Actually, I two college degrees and one of them being in arrangement and composition (Music). I’m a classically trained vocalist, so I know a thing or two about technical singing.

I say Christina’s good range is barely 5 notes because the range in which she sounds most comfortable, most in tune, better supported, with more resonance and freedom is literally five notes: D4-E4-F4-G4-A4 (actually, that’s 7 semitones, slightly over half an octave).

Her notes below D4 are often hollow and unsupported; breathy, foggy, lacking projection. Her notes above A4 are 98% of the time strained, choked, thin, painful sounding.

She does have a high falsetto extension, but since it is not well integrated into the rest of her voice, it cannot really be counted as “full voice”.

You see, for a real vocalist the range is not all the notes one can squeak, croack, whimper, bullfrog, fart, whine or roar…but the notes one can sing with control, support and FREEDOM as part of a vocal line.

Based on that description of what range really is, someone like Beyonce truly has a bigger range (3 octaves) as she can support her low notes as low as C3 and sing with control, agility and precision up to C6.

Christina has a big “hole” in her voice in the passaggio area, the notes between Bb4-Ab5 where her control and precision often are absent.

    • MRDIVABITCH October 16, 2012

      @ all4u1

“Christina is a very gifted vocalist, with a 4 octave range, sometimes 5” – Christina has never had 5 octaves. In her recording of “The Christmas song” she shows over 4 octaves (C3-Db7) though.

“Her riffs and runs are executed precisely” – No they’re not. They are often sloppy and half-assed. She has had her moments, but often she sins of lack of musical intelligence.

“Also, she was praised by many legendary vocalist” – Praise, awards, sales, etc…do not make someone a great singer. Actual technical ability (as well as interpretative ability) make someone a great singer. Christina has the interpretative ability, and she has the instruments…now, if only she could learn to use it.

      • all4u1 October 16, 2012

        @ Mr Diva

Whatever, you clearly don’t understand good vocal ability. And, for you to say you studied music and have two degrees, don’t prove s***!!!

After this comment, I’m gonna ignore you. Apparently, you’re desperate for attention!

        Bye, f**!!!

    • MRDIVABITCH October 17, 2012

      @ all4u1

Do YOU know what good vocal ability is?
We can discuss music when you know as much about music as I do.

      • all4u1 October 17, 2012

We can discuss anything, when you stop being bias and stop being a hater!

Also, you should stop talking about how you are a trained singer, writing long ass essays, paraphrasing what other people say!

        ” Who Cares” !!!

    • MRDIVABITCH October 17, 2012

How am I biased? I actually praised her vocals in that track! And I posted a beautiful pic of her…Sit.

  3. Galuda October 16, 2012

Sorry Whitney Houston will always be The Voice.

    • MC October 16, 2012

He meant the singing competition that Xtina is on….

      • MC October 16, 2012

        …..hopefully…….

    • O.L.B October 16, 2012

Whitney Houston is gone (may she continue to rest in peace) Christina was her successor and next in line to take Whitney’s place as “The Voice.” Even Whitney Houston loved Christina Aguilera.

      • MC October 16, 2012

Christina can replace Whitney as soon as pigs start flying.

    • mr.m October 16, 2012

Whitney who? that f*****’ b**** died .. RIP
She was a crack wack trainwreck m***** in her last years
      NOW Xtina is THE VOICE!!!

      • all4u1 October 16, 2012

        @ Mr. DivaBitch

Stop trying to act like you’re a trained vocalist, singing at gay bars on karaoke night. lol

    • MRDIVABITCH October 17, 2012

      @ all4u1

Actually, most of my live performing experience is in classical recitals without a microphone, projecting just with the natural power of my voice. I don’t go to bars as they are too loud and hurt my ears, and the smoking is bad for my voice.

Why are you so butthurt I don’t think your fave is some kind of untouchable vocal goddess? I’m entitled to have an opinion, especially if I can back it up with technical facts.

If you feel you can defend your fave’s vocal ability, please do so…but do it using technical musical terms and facts, not praise or sales or awards which, in the end, do not determine someone’s vocal ability.

      • all4u1 October 17, 2012

Christina’s awards and accolades speaks for themselves.

        NEXT!!!

    • MRDIVABITCH October 17, 2012

Beyonce has 3 times more Grammys and actual technically great singers like Placido Domingo have praised her. So why are you not sucking her c*** instead of Xtina’s?

  4. MRDIVABITCH October 16, 2012

Very good! Christina sounds great singing at that volume and in that range.

  5. S****** Blonde October 16, 2012

Her vocals sound just as clean as they do here- a reminder as to why she is and will forever remain ‘The Voice‘…….”The Voice”, no way.

  6. JOHNVIDAL October 16, 2012

This is getting to a point it is just stupid! Can u just please talk about music? Desperate attempts to get hits are tired. Yes I´m saying it cos of this guy calling Xtina The Voice when she is not, we know who it is and this guy knows it too. Just searching for hits. At least try a little bit harder

    • mr.m October 16, 2012

Wait, this song wasn’t released a long time ago? It was even perfomed at the Grammy.

  10. Jamie October 16, 2012

Bennett recorded it as bonus tracks duets with Michael Bublé and Delta Goodrem for his 2006 Duets: An American Classic album; performed it tfour times with Christina Aguilera on his NBC special An American Classic, Saturday Night Live, the 2008 Grammy Awards and the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2007; and in 2011 with Haley Reinhart in the finale show of American Idol season 10.

  11. RUDE NAVY October 16, 2012

Kid , how many times i’m gonna school your black ass howto not disrespect BLACK legends like whitney ?

    whitney = THE VOICE.

    k ?

1.Xtina has a wonderful voice when she’s not trying to ” show off” if u know what i mean !!

2.do u only have one pic of Christina btw ?
she doesn’t look good in this one above , looks like what she can be lookin’ like when she’s 70 !

    3. it wasn’t needed to mention gaga in this post to generate hits.

    4. why you didn’t shade mariah’s “triumphant” as usual ?!!! i was just starting to think that was one of your hidden ways to generate hits @sam ? 😉

    XD for LoTUS. 😀

    • mr.m October 16, 2012

      STAY MAD!! negro 😀
Your fav will never sing like Queen X .. EVER!

  12. O.L.B October 16, 2012

It’s crazy how all the non-singers critisize Christina’s singing skill. Its her style to overdue it and go off on the mic. This is why your fave would never stand a chance next to Christina Aguilera. She sings circles around them other chicks. Mariah Carey is even intimidated by her.

    • mr.m October 16, 2012

      YAAAAAAAS!
      tell em’ gurrrrrrrrrrr ..
      Christina ‘The Voice’ Aguilera
      D-E-A-L

  13. fjhsdsds October 16, 2012

This is sooooo old! B2B era!

  14. TeamXtina October 16, 2012

This song is not new Christina and Tony Bennett performed this song together in 2006 and 2007. I don’t know why Gaga’s name was even bought up. Christina work with Tony before her for the record.

  15. small_angel October 16, 2012

This is an old song, but to be re-released on a new album.
I’ m just happy that we are here comparing XTINA to Mariah and Whitney, which is BTW, 2 of the greatest singer. It only shows that she also belong there. Not with some of generic singers nowadays.
Christina, Mariah and Whitney are “THE VOICE of Their OWN GENERATION” i guess we just have to deal with it.

    • MC October 16, 2012

rather its the blogger looking for hits that is comparing them no one else is….

      • small_angel October 17, 2012

        denial to the highest level.

      • MC October 17, 2012

Delusion to the highest level when you try to compare Xtina to Mariah, Whitney, and Celine. Just as delusional as Sam calling her the “Voice”. You may now proceed to have all the seats _/ _/ _/ _/

      • small_angel October 18, 2012

Christina Aguilera is being compared to Mariah, Celine and Whitney.
You have to deal with it.
She is also The Voice of this Generatio.
again you have to deal with it.

  16. aishaaguilerakeys October 16, 2012

    @ teamxtina oct 16, 2012 804p…

i’m glad you nailed tgj’s attempt at being half ass slick to make it look like gaga sang with tony bennett first.

christina and tony sang the song before anyone even knew what a gaga was.

they give christina some atta girl but they just can’t just couldn’t resist draggin’ out that “copycat” bs on the sly.

Lmao Nothing about Beys Voice is better then Xtinas and thats the Honest truth.

    • all4u1 October 17, 2012

To me, Bey’s voice is weak and lacks depth. I would say that she is an amazing performer/ entertainer, but she always plays it safe with her vocals.

Christina, on the other hand, always takes risk. So if she wanted to be flawless all of the time, she can!

      • MRDIVABITCH October 18, 2012

        G3rl that’s a bunch of B*******!
“If she wanted to be flawless all the time, she can”
So I guess she has NEVER wanted to be flawless then.

Beyonce projects the low notes better, sings with more resonance, better intonation and precision, better register coordination, better support on the upper register and head voice, has more versatility, a better musician’s ear, etc.

The head voice runs in “I care”>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Your fave’s entire discography.

      • all4u1 October 18, 2012

That’s good you like Beyonce, I like Christina. Your opinion is not going to make me change my mind.

I think it’s absurd to entertain you anyway. Apparently, you want someone to pay attention to you!

        Hilarious!!!! LMAO

      • MRDIVABITCH October 19, 2012

Actually, I’m not a fan of Beyonce’s music at all…but I respect her as a vocalist.
