As with most Rihanna songs, an army of writers and producers were assembled to craft her latest smash ‘Diamonds’.
Songwriter Sia Furler, whose name (and bank balance) have stretched in recent years due to her hand in writing many a Billboard hit, was one of those enlisted to cook up the star’s twelfth US #1.
And with the song achieving success on a global scale, it was only fitting that the Australian performed her handiwork at the Norweigan-American Achievement Awards last night. The event celebrated the success of Norwegian production duo Stargate – who co-produced ‘Diamonds’ with Benny Blanco and are also at the helm of most of the model’s hits.
Backed by Stargate themselves, watch Sia shine bright like a diamond after the jump…
The actual slayage! Sia nailed it; although, having followed her rise, we wouldn’t expect anything less. She’s such a stellar talent. A fact Rihanna clearly clocked on to, hence her identical rendition of Sia’s ‘Diamonds’ demo (see: same adlibs, same annunciation, same everything).
It’s a fact which re-affirms one of our main gripes with Ms. Fenty. For, like Whitney Houston, she isn’t a songwriter (believe those “credits” if you choose); however Whitney more than compensated for this by being an interpreter of song. Not only would she make any track her own, she’d deliver her own catalogue with slight differences each performance. Indeed, see if you can find an identical ‘I Will Always Love You’ showing anywhere.
Waiting.
With Rih, though, we’re still chuckling at her “Sia accent” on ‘Diamonds’. Then again, she’s chuckling at the top of the charts. Is this what the industry has come to? Models-with-mics…making it?
