She’s back! Well… almost.
Recent years have seen Lil Kim become a punchline of sorts. Between ‘Black Friday’, beefs, and an ever-evolving look, the pint-sized femcee -for many-seems like a shell-of-a-shell-of-a-shell of the formidable force she was in the 90’s.
However, that may be set to change. For the rapstress has announced a new single.

Speaking XXL backstage at her recent Gramercy Theater show, the 38-year-old revealed that while hitmaker Bangladesh may not be executive producing her album, he is at the helm of its first single.
On her official single:
“I’ve had so many singles that we just put out to feed the streets, but the first official single will be out in May, June or July. [It’s] produced by Bangladesh. It’s different.”
On the rumored title of her album, Hard Core 2: All Hail The Queen:
“No, [Hard Core 2: All Hail The Queen] was just something that my fans tried to push on us. They had their own mind made up of things they want me to do. Songs they want me to make. Vintage was a title I heard. I was like, ‘Cute.’ I like vintage clothes, and everyone knows that, so people were like, ‘Oh, Kim, because your favorite kind of clothes are vintage, why don’t you name the album Vintage?’ I’m like, ‘It’s cute, but no.’ [Laughs]”
On returning to music:
“It feels good. [There’s] nothing like a great comeback. I love being the underdog sometimes. Right now, I may be considered an underdog in some specific iconic way. You know what I mean? Sometimes, we have to go into hibernation and regroup. I’m blessed enough to been in the game for a while and still have my beautiful fans and still have the respect. That’s something that gets me going. I’m also fortunate enough to take vacation and take a little hiatus. Relax, and see what the next level I want to go to.”

It’s (almost too) easy to nitpick Kim at this point – a lot of that fact being her own fault. However, that aside, we’ve long felt that she does have at least one more solid run left in her (be it a single…an album…something). All she needs is to ensure is that all her cards are lined up in the right order.
Jury’s out on whether she’ll be able to do this. What is a certainty, though, is that there is still mileage in “new Kim”. She just needs to drive in the right direction both creatively and with her business decisions (see: label, marketing, press).
Because, in the event she does, she could stumble upon hits such as this…

While Lil Kim’s career was a shining success in the 90’s into 2000, there are a lot of good talent and bad talent she will now have to weed through. She has some very hardcore fans and also she was named in connection with Biggie. Another well respected artist of his time and generation. Nikki Minaj, and Lore’l, Queen Latifah, and a few male rap artists.. and a few other artists have staked out their niches and also new new. It’s safe to say if Lil Kim she wants to have her time again she will have to claim her spot with a good album and definition. She will always get that respect but to make it big again she has to come full circle this time.
