But I don’t understand why people just come for Rihanna’s sales. Most artists sell more singles than albums nowadays. It’s singles era today. Look at Bruno Mars/Beyonce/Lady GaGa/Katy Perry, all sold more singles than albums. 20-40% of their total sol records are singles and the rest are albums. If Rihanna is a singles artist, so are the mentioned people.
A huge album seller are people like legends (we all know who they are) and from all artists of our generation that would be Britney Spears and Adele.
Britney is not anymore either. Right now they would be Adele, Taylor Crap, Michael Buble (at least till now), Eminem, Justin Timberlake right now and yes Beyonce seems to still do better than Rihanna with album sales (I´m focusing in the USA, though I know). For exampe in Spain, your home country, only Adele’s last album got certified among them. Unapologetic is Gold there as well and she had a platinum album with GGGB and Don’t Stop The Music was #1 single on Spanish year-end chart being certified 6xPlatinum. Rihanna lacks the USA support to be a better album seller, I agree that she never slayed with album sales there.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but what if the person imitating is a polarizing icon that should be doing otherwise — someone like Beyoncé?
On Monday (April 29), pop singer Kerli posted a side-by-side photo on her Facebook page of her and Beyoncé donning the same Amato Haute Couture dress. The photo of Beyoncé comes from the pages of her 2013 “Mrs. Carter Show” tour book.
Except, it’s not just the Furne One designed dress — which also Nicki Minaj wore in her “Va Va Voom” video — that’s similar in the photo. Both singers can be seen painted in white, from head to toe, and stylistically posed as sculptures.
No one owns a look, image, dance move (after all, how many artists have pulled out signature Michael Jackson moves?), or in this case, an experimental costume. They’re not copyrighted property, but filed as intellectual property.
Any artist, including Beyoncé, can wear whatever another artist wore, but that multiplicity gets suspicious and easily pegged as stealing. And understandably so, when it’s not only the look of the artist that is being traced, but his or her entire idea.
Beyoncé first caught flak for working up a dance similar to Josephine’s Baker’s iconic banana dance in her “Deja Vu” video, then was seen sporting a skirt with dangling bananas when performing the “B’Day” track. But let’s be honest: that wasn’t that serious, at least not at that point in her 20-year plus career. She later borrowed from Bob Fosse’s routine, “Mexican Breakfast,” in the video for her girls anthem, “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).” There are also references to “Rich Man’s Frug” scene (of Bob Fosse’s “Sweet Charity”) in Bey’s “Get Me Bodied” video.
There’s a difference between inspiration and imitation. “Countdown” is a good example of Beyoncé doing both in one piece of work. She references Audrey Hepburn’s “Funny Face” dancing and both Hepburn and Peggy Moffitt’s late 50’s/early 60’s fashion, then elaborates with color schemes and pairs the choreography perfectly with the pace of the soundscapes. She also samples Boyz II Men’s countdown from their song, “Uhh Ahh.”
As the video continues, we see Bey’ using the same choreography, cinematography and costumes that Belgian choreographer and dancer, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, used in “Rosas Danst Rosas.” It’s one thing to be inspired by someone else’s work and revamp with one’s personal style, but it’s another to duplicate exact movements, which is ultimately violating the artist’s intellectual property. Context matters.
Before the debut of “Countdown,” Beyonce was criticized for nearly replicating Italian singer Lorella Cuccarini’s live performance with her performance of “Run the World (Girls)” at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. She later stated that she had hired the same choreographers that had worked on Cucarini’s performance, but it’s still puzzling as to why she didn’t work with them to create a groundbreaking concept of her own.
The choreography, seen in the performance and the song’s accompanying music video, comes from Mozambigue dance troupe Tofo Tofo. Instead of thanking them for the inspiration after the fact, as she’s done with Cuccarini and Keersmaeker, Beyoncé brought them to the U.S. and hired them to dance alongside her in the “Run the World (Girls)” video.
The 2011 song, off her fourth studio album “4” swipes the beat from Major Lazer’s 2009 “Pon De Floor.” According to Diplo, one half of Major Lazer, the making of “Run the World (Girls)” started out as a “joke” (whatever that means).
Beyoncé’s “1 + 1” video features scenes similar to the unfinished French film, “Le’Enfer,” while her “Love On Top” video has dancing scenes much the same as those in New Edition’s “If It Isn’t Love” video.

The bittersweet side of Beyonce stealing imitable art is that when she does, she does it well. Perhaps it’s why we give the diva a pass, or two, and will in the future. Let’s also not forget that voice of hers and stage stamina that hypnotizes many into disregarding such acts — after all, words and imagery can only strike a chord or transcend to a degree if they’re executed with astounding talent.

Rihanna only slays in singles, what new though! The Navy will stay reaching and dragging with their singles stats haha! When it comes to overall success she is pretty basic. She has not don’t half the major things Beyonce has done in her career. Beyonce has epic milestones and performances that’s will be looked back on cited in the future. Her star is just huge and that’s without all the #1s under the sun or need to change her hair color to stay releveant. Sometimes sales are very misleading at the time because even though Stay has sold more, it wont have half as much impact as ballads like Listen and Halo. Rihannas music (besides umbrella) fades out very quickly. I don’t stan for either of the girls but Beyonce just has that edge for me because she is more respected and people already look up to her like a young legend which says something. But congrats Rihanna you cant knock her hustle right now.

But Beyonces performances also have impact. What really memorable performances does Rihanna have? Beyonces done things like sing for the president, perform at the Superbowl be the first black female headliner at Glastonbury, I could go on. Rihanna slays in singles but half them songs wont be remembered remembered properly years from now. A song doesn’t need to go #1 to have impact in the long term. #1s are just a reflection of hype at the time. I like stay, but its a totally average ballad and will fizzle out with time. The fact that Rihanna slays with singles, Beyonce makes up for the fact she is recognised as one of the best performers and will go down as that and vice versa. I mean, you only have to look at the celebs that go to watch Beyonce to get a jist of how quality her shows are.

It really irks me when people call Beyonce local just because of stats. Makes it seem like shes not big in anywhere other than the US. Being from London myself, even though Rihanna slays in stats over here, if you didnt go and look it up you wouldnt know who is the bigger seller out of the both because they are both really big. Rihanna is shoved down our throats more because she always seems to have something out. In fact Beyonce is generally more talked about as the inspiration and Rihanna the it girl. When Beyonce has albums out, her songs get just as much play on radio, Beyonce has her own TV specials over here, has over 3 million people over here after her concert tickets here and headlines at all our major festivals. She is hardly a lessor just because shes sold less, which is clearly what you were implying.

How the hell can you base the success of a career on radio hit singles???? Remember Olivia Newton-John??? She had a good amount of hit singles, one of them being one of the most successful ever on the Hot 100. Does somebody praise her or remember her nowadays? I mean in a daily basis when talking about legendary artists? NO. And I love her. Everybody I know fell in love with the movie Grease, etc, etc. But she is not a huge musician or voice and never slayed the album charts, and that´s what makes people remember your slayage the most. The same will happen with Rihanna. Hot singles prepared for radio don´t last decades, no matter the amount.
