‘Butterfly’ beauty Mariah Carey may be flying high on charts with her Miguel-assisted hit ‘#Beautiful’, but lambs following the pop icon on Twitter were dealt a disappointing announcement moments ago regarding its parent album.
Christened ‘The Art of Letting Go’, the album was believed to be “all systems go” for a July 23rd release date. That, according to Carey herself, has apparently changed…
While we await news on the album’s newest release date, we can’t help but admit we saw this coming. Even with ‘#Beautiful’ performing as well as it is on charts, the buzz surrounding the track is quickly fizzling.
With the ‘American Idol‘ platform in her rearview as a launching pad for new material, here’s hoping the single’s follow-up – as well as the new additions to the album from Urban music’s top craftsmen and working the award show circuit (see: BET Awards, MTV VMA) – regenerate much deserved interest in the project.
However, as we are anxious to hear what Carey’s cooking up, we’re hoping she doesn’t follow J.Lo’s lead by pushing the album back all the way to the fall.

I personally think the real reason is because while #Beautiful is a hit (currently sitting at #15 on Hot 100), it’s not the MONSTER hit she needs to lead the album. At this point in her career, she had NOTHING to prove (200 million records sold) but she still needs to plan her moves carefully in today’s market. It´s more like Mariah does everything in her albums, or is totally involved. Almost none of the others do it. So yeah it´s true that her label usually announces a date and she feels like it´s not still perfect. But she can do it. She did it with her last Xmas album. Only a few months and done. And I know she recorded even in October, but the album was out by the frist week of November. She can do it and she could say she has the album made, but she feels music, and she feels like creating all the time. Of course, marketing also matters, and it´s possible they decided to do all this upcoming promo in July, and deal with the album release in August.

This news honestly comes as no surprise to me. If you’ve been a fan of Mariah’s for awhile you know that all her albums get pushed back. Every one since “Glitter” (Charmbracelet, Emancipation of Mimi, E=MC2, and Memoirs) have all seen their original release date pushed back by at least 3 to 4 weeks. And the reason is Mariah doesn’t know when to quit….she just keeps writing and writing and keeps wanting to record which ultimately leads the release date to be shifted. I knew it was never going to be able to come out in 3 weeks being that Mariah hasn’t even been able to start promoting it internationally at all yet either. This is most definitely for the best, but it’s certainly annoying for the fans who’ve been patiently waiting for the album. Either way I’m still excited to hear what she’s been working on. (Don’t forget, if Mariah didn’t push back the release of Emancipation of Mimi we would’ve never been given the amazing classic that is We Belong Together, as that was the last song she recorded for that album!!!)
