As to celebrate the critical acclaim secured by her new album ' The Electric Lady' and her contributions to the arts thus far, Billboard have revealed that they are to award Janelle Monae with the 'Rising Star Award'.
Good news for the forward thinking star below…
Set to be honoured at the 2013 Billboard Women in Music event on December 10th, Monae will collect the award in the company of her creative peers, years after fellow musicians Lady GaGa and Nicki Minaj scored the same award for their respective success in the industry.
On the performer, Billboard explained:
“From her distinctive style to her unexpected collaborations, Janelle is truly carving her own path in this industry. We are thrilled to celebrate her talents as this year’s Rising Star and look forward to seeing what she does next.”
Upon learning of the honour, the entertainer beamed:
“Being recognized for your hard work and passion is always humbling and encouraging. I feel honored Billboard has taken note of my journey in the music industry thus far. I hope by receiving this award I'm encouraging aspiring acts to stay true to their own artistic visions and never give up.”
