Lady GaGa’s ‘Machete Kills’ Role Welcomes Positive Reviews: ‘A Hilarious Touch’

Published: Saturday 12th Oct 2013 by David

One year before she stars in Sin City‘s sequel, ‘A Dame To Kill For‘, Lady GaGa has joined the cast of her new movie ‘Machete Kills‘ in generating positive reviews aplenty upon the flick’s cinematic release!

Why the ‘Starstruck’ singer is being hailed as one of the movie’s brightest stars?

Review roundup below…

USA Today
There’s no denying the film’s fun spot-the-star cameo challenge: Mel Gibson, Lady Gaga, Sofia Vergara and Michelle Rodriguez must have a fondness for camp and arterial spray, and they infuse Machete with genuine energy.

Lady Gaga, Walton Goggins, Antonio Banderas and Cuba Gooding Jr., all play an assassin named La Camaleón, and their performances are surprisingly consistent.

and a face-shifting assassin called the Chameleon, who’s played at various points by Cuba Gooding Jr., Antonio Banderas and Lady Gaga in an orange wig (she’s not bad, haters).

Lady Gaga (in her first film) shows unsurprising flair as the Chameleon’s sexiest guise

Perhaps Rodriguez’ most interesting development in “Machete Kills” is the role of El Camaleon, played by Cuba Gooding, Jr., Lady Gaga, Walt Goggins and, my personal favorite, Antonio Banderas, who has done six films with Rodriguez. It’s a terrific shtick, especially with Lady Gaga running around in a wolf coat with tangerine hair.

Michelle Rodriguez is back for “taco time” as rebel leader Luz, but she seems tame in comparison to Lady Gaga, who struts sexually as The Chameleon, a villain who can change faces (and genders) at a whim.

And the revolving cast of actors filing extended cameos as the shape-shifting “El Camaleon” is, admittedly, an often hilarious touch.
Originally posted by Variety
Michelle Rodriguez and Jessica Alba reprise their roles from the original; Walt Goggins, Cuba Gooding Jr., Antonio Banderas and Lady Gaga all make good with their respective turns as assassins; and “Spy Kids” alumna Alexa Vega finally completes her maturation from child star to ludicrously pneumatic sexpot.
Originally posted by Empire
Like a Grindhouse Woody Allen, Rodriguez attracts much talent, albeit off the boil, to his high-turnover cheapies, here once more surrounding Danny Trejo (not actually a terrible actor, but as Machete directed to possess all the charisma of a tree stump) with game-for-a-laugh famous faces in a series of stunt cameos. Which, frankly, are the film’s biggest attraction. Walton Goggins, Cuba Gooding Jr., Antonio Banderas and, yeah, Lady Gaga all appear — playing the same character.

There are tons of other fun parts, with Cuba Gooding Jr, Antonio Banderas, Sofia Vergara, Vanessa Hudgens, Lady Gaga, William Sadler, and more showing up here and there.
Originally posted by IGN
The aforementioned President is played by Charlie Sheen – here billed as Carlos Eztevez – and having America’s favourite bad-boy show up as the country’s Commander-in-Chief is stunt casting that shouldn’t work but does, with Sheen playing the part straighter than you’d expect.
Which is not an accusation that can be levelled at Lady Gaga, who looks like she’s just walked off the set of a Russ Meyer movie as a man-eating assassin, with crazy cascading from her every line delivery.

Jessica Alba does an uncredited and brief reprise of her role from the original Machete movie. In the sequel, we also get Michelle Rodriguez (no relation to the filmmakers) returning as Luz, along with the introduction of Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Alexa Vega, Antonio Banderas, Cuba Gooding Jr., Vanessa Hudgens and even sexy singer Lady Gaga.
Originally posted by AV Club
Sheen’s role is one of a dozen small parts in Machete Kills that elevate the movie beyond its Z-movie inspirations: Walton Goggins, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Cuba Gooding Jr., and William Sadler show up, get silly (and/or killed), and then depart.

ITunes and Billboard disagree with you.

SHOW SOME RESPECT AND BOW DOWN TO THE QUEEN!!!!!!!!

When will s*** del ray get an acting gig? NEVER, and that is why her stans are mad. They will remain mad and trolling TGJ

    • Rosie October 12, 2013

But GODna has nothing to do with this? And Born To Die is still about 40 spots above the “highly-anticipated” CHARTFLOP on iTunes even though it’s almost two years old? And slaying T***** worldwide? I see why you’re so pressed over the queen.

LOL queen of what?? She’s been mainstream for a couple a years and u call her a queen. Just cuz she has moderate success don’t let that fool u into thinking she’s a queen of something until she has more than 1 album that does exceptionally well….

    • IM A FREE B*TCH October 12, 2013

lol Lana has her own Tropico which she stares in, so sit

    • QUEEN MINAJ October 12, 2013

actually the only thing lana has close to mainstream is summer sadness remix so please take some chairs and be seated

  3. realest October 12, 2013

“A hilarious touch” as in “she’s in there for one scene, it’s cute and that’s that.. Stop saying “starring role” when we all know it’s just a cameo.. Lmfao.. You have to be in the movie more than one scene to be the star. Smh. But kudos to gaga for her acting chops.! She never said “starring role” it’s these fools on here struggling for hits!

    • cake like lady gaga October 12, 2013

It’s not one scene she’s in actually and have u even seen it?

  4. JOHNVIDAL October 12, 2013

LOl Ok TGJ. I like Gaga but this was too much. It´s basically a cameo, and yes I´m sure she did good, she seems to have better acting skills than her peers just by watching her “Marry the Night” video. But that´s it. It´s hilarious when many stans think all these girls who star in already well-known films and franchises and in very small roles, are the reason these films do good (or bad). They are nothing to those films, just one more ingredient only their fans will specially enjoy.
It´s like thinking that people went to see The Butler cos Mariah did a cameo in there, and when the film gets its oscar nominations (cos they will come, even if it doesn´t win anything) Mariah fans like me would go crazy saying it is thanks to her, or the box office success of the film last month in America was thanks to her. Just NO. These girls are not movie stars.
Only brave ones that I know who really started in a leading role with the world ready to bash them cos of their pop musicians status were Whitney (who won the battle, at least commercially) and Mariah (who failed). The rest just did something here and there in projects that were going to be successful anyway.
    ps: can´t wait for Artpop

    • Dreamlover October 12, 2013

YAAAAS! When you put Whitney’s accomplishment of having such a box office smash right out of the gate, it makes that much more impressive! She was truly a one-of-a-kind <3

      • JOHNVIDAL October 12, 2013

Exactly! She was everything. The Bodyguard soundtrack is also the biggest era any female musician has EVER had in music history.
Btw are you also a Mariah fan like me?

  5. Rosie October 12, 2013

Too bad no one’s seeing it. Predicted to do only $6 million this weekend at the box office.

    • ENOUGH ONIKA (KMART QUEEN) October 12, 2013

      I didn’t even know it was released…

  6. Realest October 12, 2013

the only thing my comment had to say DIRECTLY to gaga was “kudos for your acting chops” .. the rest of the comment is to TGJ for exaggerating.. Dont understand? Unable to comprehend? Dumb founded? Oh ok Sounds personal #StayInSchoolFoilks #ReadingsFundamental #TheStruggleIsReal

  8. mc the place to be! October 12, 2013

cameo? but she’s in a lot of scenes not the whole Damn movie but more than just cameo! she actually has a role not a big role but just a small role good for someone who is just starting on the big screen. tbh I think shell be good in acting since she’s all into theatrics in her performances and she did go to tisch NYU that’s a plus. I’m here for gaga in movies!

    • JOHNVIDAL October 12, 2013

      Me too. She has potential.

  9. Stop the drama Start the music October 12, 2013

How does she have a cameo. She’s been in at least 4 scenes so far that I’ve seen from the trailers and featurettes. These ppl….

    • JOHNVIDAL October 12, 2013

Ok I don´t really know if it´s a cameo or more than that. What I mean is that the movie is not about her, plus it isn´t a new movie. She´s just there as some other supporting characters. I just wanted to point out how crazy some stans go about this little roles sometimes, as if their faves were killing the film industry. Sure Gaga played her part well, she always gives her all, and the kind of movie we are talking about seems to fit her. But just that. Nothing else nothing more.
      Can´t wait for Artpop.

  10. BubblePopElectric October 12, 2013

    Never heard of it

  11. POP ROYALTY October 12, 2013

    k.

  12. Tisha October 12, 2013

LMAO, you better be shading Sam because half these reviews were insulting.

    “Consistent”?

    “A Hilarious Touch”?

    “And yeah, Lady Gaga”?

LMAO, and the Little Monsters actually came in her hooting and hollering before they READ the reviews.

    • Stop the drama Start the music October 12, 2013

Don’t see how those are insulting. Get ur eyes checked. It’s an exploitation film, btw, which means it will have over the top elements about it and that’s exactly what Gaga is and isn’t ashamed of it. She was perfect for this type of movie if u have seen the first movie.

  13. grownwoman October 12, 2013

Cameo or just a small role. .. eith way I knew gaga would be good in acting.I honestly see her in the near future doing more movies and and possibly stop music for a while. She will do well in anything that lets her create and pretend.

  14. hh October 12, 2013

It flopped at the box office though. $6 million.

    • Stop the drama Start the music October 12, 2013

Wasn’t really promoted that much tho. And it’s a franchise that ppl don’t know about that much unlike the Hunger Games, Insidious, Harry Potter, etc…

    • JOHNVIDAL October 12, 2013

It´s probably the amount of money these type of movies always make.

  15. TRUTH October 12, 2013

How can it flop after one day?
Y’all f*** are too stupid. So quick to hate but can’t think for s***.

  16. realest October 12, 2013

What I hate is how people just go out there way to hate on Gaga before anything even comes out to be judged.
ArtPop hasn’t come out yet and people are saying it flopped.
Applause is still on the Top Ten , How IS THAT a Flop?
I just can’t with you dumbass people. You want general public to respect your artists but you can’t respect their favs. This site has become nothing but Black on Black Hate and Ghetto Ignorance.
    Please educate yourselves

    • grownwoman October 12, 2013

I wont go as far to say artpop will flop but I know I was not impressed with her live performances of the songs on the album. But, that could be because she did live versions 1st and sometimes that is hard to do. The songs seemed too forced and not authentic art. Lyrics didnt make sense to me on songs like manicure, aura, and some others. But, her monsters love it and that is really all that matters. She is still very talented

      • Realest October 12, 2013

please dont respond because THIS IS NOT ME.. its someone who wants to be me..

      • DEZI October 12, 2013

This site is just hate period it has nothing to do with black because black people are not the only ones who comment on this site unless you know something that I don’t know.

Grape Juice is really no different than all the other so-called black blogs they just do their dirt behind celebrities they allow hate speech and ignorance. These so-called black blogs are designed to target a black audience but when you scroll down to the comment section you will see that blacks are being “racially targeted’ at an alarming rate and that’s because it’s not who you think it is commenting on these boards.

The average black person is not sitting on here arguing over gaga let alone any other artists. What is ghetto ignorance? Ghetto is not the actions of a person it is an impoverished environment. Educate yourself dear. Also, The term “ghetto” originated from the name of the jewish quarter in venice, established in 1516.

  17. . : : h 2 o : : . October 12, 2013

    Wow that’s cool (?)

  18. realest October 12, 2013

Doesn’t matter. The point is when a movie is “starring” someone it isn’t a few scenes.. That’s a feature.. Or a cameo. My comment wasn’t to bash gaga at all.. It was to call out the exaggeration TGJ does just because they like her. they’re reaching. Now if you comprehended what I wrote clearly you would know just that and I wouldn’t be having to hold your hand as I give you a tour of the (seeming) complexity that is my comment *rolls eyes* now get it together

  19. realest October 12, 2013

Lmfao someone stole my user name.. Hahahajaja I Stan for no1 especially not gaga don’t believe that comment about applause and top ten and blah blah blah.. That ain’t me.. I keep it real 100% of the time and that comment ISNT REAL. The struggle to be me.. A lot of these h*** living vicariously through me, instead of doing them, they’d rather do me.. But you can’t #Clearly.

  20. opd2 October 12, 2013

well i was going to watch it,no matter if she was in it are not,i like these type of kill billy type of movies too.

  21. QUEEN MINAJ October 12, 2013

i love how lana is slaying this h** <3.

    • grownwoman October 12, 2013

U say more dumb s*** than nikki herself. How is lana slaying anybody when she says herself, that she wishes people paid more attention her music and pretty much the entire world pays attention to gaga.
I f**** with lana but @queenminaj you sound foolish.

      • QUEEN MINAJ October 12, 2013

but lanas album sold 5 mill WW
        while gaga sold?
        🙁

    • grownwoman October 12, 2013

Come on now…. sales? Is that what u go by? Nikki fan talking about sales? I dont remember every tv station, radio station, magazines, news programs and Oprah talking about Lana. GaGa on the other hand had movement and shock value that kept her talked about. So sales are cool but who is talking about her (lana)? Ill wait

  22. Teacher October 12, 2013

    B****.

    ….but…on a RANDOM note……. Applause>>>>>>Roar

    • grownwoman October 12, 2013

Stop because both are catchy songs, but I find my head bobbing more to applause than roar. Applause is kinda addictive when listening to it. Neither made my ipod mix though

  23. Lil Mo Stan and trey burkes husband (Kendricks d*** game wasnt on point) October 12, 2013

The fact that everyone loved gaga two years ago, and now they dont pay her dust, tho lol. Shady “fans”. Plays: S** Dreams

  24. Marc October 12, 2013

    She’s not an actress.

    • grownwoman October 12, 2013

Actually she is… Stephanie started out acting first.

  25. JER October 12, 2013

Positive reviews? The film and her performance are getting dragged left right and center everywhere. Typical thatFLOPjuice finding one or two biased reviews and clinging to them like grim death.
