It may not be as Hot 100 friendly as ‘Teenage Dream’, but at the rate it’s selling, Katy Perry‘s ‘Prism’ is paced to outshine its predecessor on album charts.
Already besting ‘Dream’s first week sales to give Perry her best first week outing to date, today brought with it news that ‘Roar’s parent album has now passed the “million sold” mark in its 11th week (a feat it took ‘Dream’ approximately 20 weeks to accomplish).
Now, as if this news of the singer’s third million-selling album wasn’t enough for KatyCats to celebrate, it comes on the heels of news that the “killer queen” will be collaborating with Queen of Pop Madonna for a new project:

“… “PRISM,” passed the 1 million sales mark this week, according to data from Nielsen SoundScan. The album sold 51,000 copies last week, bringing its cumulative tally to 1,020,000 in 11 weeks on sale.”

The announcement follows news that Katy Perry will act as a guest curator for Madonna’s “Art for Freedom” project – an online public art project that solicits artists to submit videos, poetry, photographs, and music , that encourage expressions on or about “freedom”.
The humans right effort will see Perry’s pick receive a $10,000 grant to a nonprofit organization of their choice. And, with Madge’s new album set to be in full production mode, pop fans are also hoping the queens’ collaboration extends to a studio.

Congrats Katy, PRISM does have some good songs like Double rainbow, legendary lovers, by the grace of god, choose your battles…pretty much the slower stuff.
I would rather hear Katy (with studio enhanced vocals of course) but not see her live.
She is slaying effortlessly though, I’ll give her that. I was shocked to see Dark Horse at #1 on iTunes, I thought her clock was ticking, I guess not.

Why are y’all so concerned about Lady G’s album? For this to be her slowest selling album it’s still performing pretty decently. Hopefully this album will go platinum. As far as Madonna goes, she’s just riding the train as she’s been doing recently.. But Sam this album is very very very good (Prizm), especially for a pop record. It is selling very well. “Roar” is a smash, and “Unconditionally” is one of her finest records.. Everything doesn’t have to go to number one in order to be a hit. “Dark Horse” is doing amazing without a video, and full promo..

Dead at people still thinking Artpop had this huge promo campaign but Prism didn´t LOL Give me a break! This is Katy´s best commercial era and Gaga´s worst, and still Katy is only doing slightly better, pretty average. Not to mention the other big promoted artist from the last year, Mylie Cyrus, who has sold less albums than Artpop LOL. If these are their best moments then…
I hope Madonna really works on her next album. Her last two were letdowns, while her previous four were amazing and innovative (Ray of Light-Music-American Life-Confessions).

The difference is not that big, especially worldwide. Talk to me when Katy and the others can do at their best moment what Gaga or Beyonce can at their best. They can barely do better than them even when they are at their worst (all of this is about commercial success, we know how much bigger the difference gets when it comes to talent).
Glad to see Madonna and Katy working together on a project like this. I hope one day they do collaborate, seeing how Katy will soon be up there as pop royalty. Prism will definitely see a 3x platinum certification. Its selling better then Teenage Dream because it is a better album. TD had hits. but Prism has much more lyrical depth and content.

Spot the difference. I’ll give you a hint, its over 500k. The excuses are pathetic as well. Artpop had a much stronger promo campaign then Prism did. Roar didn’t get half the promo that Katy’s lead single from Teenage Dream did. Even more pathetic is you trying to use Beyoncé because Gags is failing. Does Gags have 5 #1s from one album? Does Gags have 3 platinum albums in a row? Is she selling out the O2 arena 5 times on the same tour?
