  3. Realest April 14, 2014

Eh… All the Lana people on here arguing with other fans will mos ded have to take a backseat now. This isn’t the worst ever but WHAT IS THIS? I feel like I’m watching a slow motion “the matrix” fighting scene in like an anime movie or something. MOS DEF nothing to brag about. This song is UNDERwhelming, stanning for Lana is not where u need to be after this release- yikes.

    • FutureCIARA April 14, 2014

      Its a massive FLOP

      • FutureCIARA April 14, 2014

Lol ^ Just wanted to be messy first…… But I havent heard but 10sec of it…. Ill listen to the HQ version later and then the instrumental to see

  7. The truth hurts April 14, 2014

    Alt-rock queen!!
To anyone who doesn’t like it at first– listen again cause it’s such a grower of a song.
I live for the tempo change into that hypnotic chorus.
The production and lyricism are to die for…… She’s coming for the critical acclaim.

  8. Rosie April 14, 2014

It’s a grower. I liked it while hearing the premiere yet it sounds really good in HQ! And the instrumental is so perfect. The tempo change alone>>
She’s grown so much. This sounds like the type of music critics die over.

    • The truth hurts April 14, 2014

I wasn’t sure if I liked it at first but after I played it a few times it’s now one of my favourite Lana songs.
I want more songs like this but I don’t want her to completely get rid of the BTD sound.

      • Rosie April 14, 2014

Yeah, I was like “woah, this is different.” I was stanning for the chorus from first listen, though.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Pitchfork jumped back on the bandwagon now, especially since they still semi-stan Dan Auerbach.

    • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

Is grower another word for flop? Lmao

      • Rosie April 14, 2014

#12 on US iTunes right now and rapidly climbing. Chav will never. Stay mad.

      • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

Cheryl’s lowest peaking single was 18.
        Try harder.

    • King B April 14, 2014

That chorus tho>>>>>>>>>. I’m stanning right now she didn’t disappointed

  9. Bri Bri April 14, 2014

OMG!!! Kick Ass! I ❤️ LDR! So Beautiful, She’s A Great Icon!

  10. H2O April 14, 2014

I really grew on me with some more listens

the slow chorus is better than the rest of the song

  11. Cici s*** April 14, 2014

    Fake hipster flop

  12. Rosie April 14, 2014

This actually reminds me of her Lizzy Grant sound when she was still indie. Very refreshing.

    • S****** Blonde April 14, 2014

She’s still Indie, just more appealing to a commercial audience.

      • ATM JAM April 14, 2014

Indie means you’re on an independent label….it’s not a genre.

  13. Kisses down low April 14, 2014

This is the crap y’all go up for?

  14. S****** Blonde April 14, 2014

Greetings from Coachella everyone, she was awesome last night, the song is a heavenly masterpiece, the ‘Oh baby’ part is similar to Stevie Nicks classy ‘Edge of Seventeen’, just that little part, i love the Rock vibes, the song itself smells like Hipster culture, of course is too damn Dope for basic people on here, this is what i wanted, i’m so exciting for the album, she’s super talented.

    • Rosie April 14, 2014

You went to Coachella? I’m jealous.

      • S****** Blonde April 14, 2014

Still here, i come every year, Lana was flawless, everybody loves her here, the Queen of the festival for me.

      • Rosie April 14, 2014

I wish I could go but I’m so far away 🙁
Not here for that crowd booing Outkast though.

      • FutureCIARA April 14, 2014

The Coachella crowd this year was LAME AF!!!!

They get younger every year, so they probably didnt know who Outkast was…

      • S****** Blonde April 14, 2014

Yeah that was awful, i was like not guys don’t do this, but this is what it happen when commercial acts wants to promote their music at a Hispter festival, they’re. simply not here for it, the festival is not what it used to be, you see celebrities in every corner, the non-Hipsters go because they think is cool now, but they are not really accepted by true Hipsters, they don’t even know the bands, even Beyonce was only celebrated by those people, Hipsters were mad about it, i don’t want this festival to become mainstream but i won’t behave in such inmature way either, also must of them were already on drugs.

  15. The truth hurts April 14, 2014

The chorus is definitely the best part (the verses are still good though) such a fresh and different sound. She could have tried to copy Borde’s direction with royals etc. or just rehash her BTD sound but she’s actually giving us something different and cool. Im loving it.
This song is coming for awards and the lyrics have really matured along with the production. Doesn’t sound very commercial but I can still see it doing well.

  16. james09 April 14, 2014

I actually see this bring a hit on US radio #whoislorde?

    • Molly April 14, 2014

Lorde is the girl with 2 grammys and hits under her belt Lana is struggling to keep up.

  17. Career Ender April 14, 2014

at start i thought it was not it, then when it went i could hear that its some genius artistry

great track! she’s back, this one great song its not like anything on radio

  18. The truth hurts April 14, 2014

    Lord that chorus is dreamy

  19. LanaDelSlayReyYonce April 14, 2014

i give it to her some ppl get a hit and try so hard after that but she stay to herself (summertime sadness )

  20. Mother April 14, 2014

Really? This s*** is so underwhelming. “SLAY!” ….I guess.

  21. LanaDelSlayReyYonce April 14, 2014

    and it s***

  22. H2O April 14, 2014

    The chorus

  23. rihanna is BIGGER THN BEYONCE EVER WAS April 14, 2014

Finally! Real music has arrived. Lana, is like a white Sade: she does her music and style, with unique quality; she does not court attention of fame like that desperate THOT Rita ORA, who will flop and even though her voice is not everyone’s up of tea ( they used to say Sade could not sing ) she keeps it moving.

Sade still remains the UK biggest, most successful singer and she was born in Nigeria. Lana will be one of America finest, you mark my word. Her nee song ( which slays, duh ) has shut downs beyonce; beyonce music is getting weaker and ghetto – she needs stunts to sell.

RITA WHORA? The highlight of her career will be ripping off Zac’s shirt like a THOT!

  24. rihanna is BIGGER THN BEYONCE EVER WAS April 14, 2014

RIH RIH and Lana will be the girls who rock 2014 and beyond. NO B**** WILL COME CLOSE. Beyonce album is at 3.1 and has run out of steam. ALL her singles are flopping, she done gave all the videos away and toured, she was over promoted with Super Bowl and presidents thang, she has already done VOGUE ( outsold by Kim and kanye ) THERE IS NO WHERE left for her to go. SHE should should close up this era with grace or she will end up like GAGA and maraih, janet and whitney and all other fallen divas.

    • Hush April 14, 2014

…but you said CRTFU was gonna end Beyonce. LOL! You said Bey would never have another hit again. You said her album wouldn’t sell 200k 1st week (getting her confused w/Riri on that front).

You’re really BAD at calling this!

By the way the ‘BEYONCE’ album is the years biggest seller and a sneeze away from being RIAA certified double platinum after just 5 months (it takes Riri 6 months to sell a just million)! When was the last time Rihanna did that? 2007… LMAO!

Rihanna’s not gonna rock anything except for Drake’s drawers when he wakes up one day and finds out he has crabs thanx to her! 😉

  25. FutureCIARA April 14, 2014

There goes the fake “Hipster” bandwagonners……. Pretending to give it up for this number.

Here I’ll be honest, after first listen….. It didnt get me up…. After second listen, The sound tried coming through to me, It liked the change in pace as it transitioned to the chorus. I think the production saved this for me, I can listen to that instrumental all day and just vibe to that alone (Which may or may not ever happen, but you get my point)….. Its far better than any EDM mess.

I totally get the Stevie Knicks SOUND reference, and I think this is a much better start for her to kick off her new era.

But Im waiting for iTunes receipts, and then off to Chart positions…. thats the true test anyways right?

    • Lana del slay April 14, 2014

Worry about ci’s chart positions lol

      • FutureCIARA April 14, 2014

        K sis,

But first make sure WC actually charts….

  26. 360 April 14, 2014

This song is crap. This is what her music is like? This slays?
Nah..Just nah..I know I’ll be in the minority but I don’t like it at all.Lana’s pretty though, just not here for her music.

  27. MisdamenorFan April 14, 2014

    Harpo who dis woman

  28. MRTooIncredible April 14, 2014

LANA IN LOVE…with this ! YAS MOMMA SLAAAY SLAAAYYYYYY

  29. CARMEN April 14, 2014

YASAAAS SLAYY LANA. this is everything omg its so dreamy i love everything about this song

  30. pussyy juice lover April 14, 2014

It’s alright, kind of a growner.. The chorus is the best part.

  31. Queen Navy April 14, 2014

    That SNL performance tho…

    • d April 14, 2014

Oh sh*t, did she perform on SNL again?!

  32. lovebird April 14, 2014

Meh, an acquired taste this song is. I don’t like it.

  33. ROSEGOLD April 14, 2014

I love this! Why do you weirdos always bring up Lorde? Lana is Mortons and Lorde is Burger King. Not even close. I can’t wait for Lana’s album. She makes beautiful music!!!

  34. jlove April 14, 2014

    HUH!!!! WHAT NOISE?????/

  35. Navy Commander(AUBRIH) April 14, 2014

Yesss lana . I had to listen to fully abosrb the slayness of it all but yesss so readyy for this album. I love how she has matured her sound and is not just singing the same old song.

  36. quetta April 14, 2014

    Love it!!

  37. NICKI IS QUEEN OTHER B****** TAKE A SEAT April 14, 2014

Eh, it’s ok but nothing to brag about…..

  38. CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

Death at Rosie’s excuses already. Do you think
She’ll finally get a single to out chart GUY?

    • Rosie April 14, 2014

      US iTunes:
      10. Lana Del Rey – West Coast (STILL rapidly climbing with each update)
Not in the top 400: Lady Gaga – G.U.Y.

      • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

Where’s the chart position tho? Not the
iTunes Charts, even though those are
        The only receipts you have.

  39. H2O April 14, 2014

Yes @ all the Bey fans liking this

    Our taste>>>

  40. Touché April 14, 2014

O.O No….Just no. This was both bland and corny.

  41. Mizuki April 14, 2014

I actually like this, but it is an acquired taste. Well done Lana!

  42. BeYAWNce April 14, 2014

Lana music is not for chart. way too classy. Leave the chart for talentless b**** Katy S***** Pehhy with her tasteless music dark Hoarse. YAWNCE could never produce hits tho

  43. JOHNVIDAL April 14, 2014

Buff I don´t know. I need to listen more times. I think I liked “Ride” more at first listen. It´s good, but it´s nothing new for her. I think, right now. I know I´ll enjoy the album as a whole anyway (I hope so).

    • S****** Blonde April 14, 2014

Her music isn’t for everyone’s ears and i’m happy about that, everybody wants her to go Pop/mainstream but she refuses to do that, she’s all about quality and art, applauses.

      • JOHNVIDAL April 14, 2014

I agree she´s not for everyone. She refuses to go mainstream cause that´s not what she likes, but I don´t think she could survive there either. She´s not a mainstream performer (if you know what I mean). The song sounds good, but not too different. I still have to listen again now cause I´ve been checking Alicia´s new video for The Amazing Spiderman 2. Let me listen for the second time now.

      • S****** Blonde April 14, 2014

This is her style, she has create a sound that is unique, trust me, i come from that world, this underground scene, Hipsters loves her, she has a bright future as the Queen of alternative/baroque music, she’s also a wonderful performer in her own way, her show was great, both boys and girls falls for her.

  44. True Talent (Formerly Lil Mo’s fake stan) Stan and Trey Burke’s husband (Kendricks d*** game wasnt on point, so I divorced that a**)) April 14, 2014

This is an urban blog, so most of the readers prefer the basic standards of music set by ciara, beyonce (tho her new album was life for a month before becoming bland per usual), and spur of the moment rappers. That’s why lanas nusic probably will never catch on with tgj readers. But I kid you not. If you start from summertime sadness, to blue jeans, to diet mountain dew, then listen to ride, body electric, and American, you’ll appreciate this song that much more. West coast is an amazing song, and charts/sells will never define the pure artistry that Lana displays. So, keep your sales and ill keep this PHENOMENAL music playing. Thanks, bye

    • S****** Blonde April 14, 2014

      Amen to that!

    • 360 April 14, 2014

So you’re basically saying because we don’t like her music our taste is basic? Who the hell died and made you supreme over taste or preference in music? The song is basic period. I listen to R&B,Rock, alternative, classical, any type of genre.
This song doesn’t compare to anything on Beyonce’s latest or any other release in the last 6 months. It won’t sell like it either. I’m so tired of you fake hipsters downing mainstream but listening to even crappier underground music.

      • The truth hurts April 14, 2014

Ironic that you just criticised him for acting like his/her music opinions were fact and then you go on to state your music opinions as fact.

    • Dirty Laundry April 14, 2014

B**** please. There is no ‘superior’ taste in music.

  45. The truth hurts April 14, 2014

This song is obviosly not for you if your into more (pop/edm music)but I still love it. I think it’s a big departure from her sound in BTD and I can ulster stand why people may not like it BUT overall I think the vast majority of people really like it. Lana should be praised for staying true to herself and not selling out to the charts by producing some generic pop hit. I think what she has done is very brave and if this is indicative of the quality of ULTRAVIOLENCE then I think we are in
store for an amazing album that is going do very well. Thank god she didn’t give in and produce edm trash.
Hopefully the song will be released on UK itunes soon so I can buy it.
The best thing is her coachella performance is getting really good reviews and is being talked about as THE (if not one of) the highlights of Monday night. Everyone is saying how on point her vocals were and how she gave a stellar performance. Lets hope she can follow up this with an awesome album campaign.

  48. Rosie April 14, 2014

Absolute and utter DEATH at it going top ten on US iTunes. Where are the f*** and trolls that said she was a flop? If it keeps up along with Spotify and the audio on VEVO it has a chance of a top 20 debut.

    • ATM JAM April 14, 2014

Doesn’t this remind you of The Neighbourhood’s “I Love You” album. Songs like “flawless” and “Wires”? I’m in love with this song right now because the neighbourhood is my Favourite band behind The 1975.

    • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

Death at you. Your body went top 3 in its
First 2 days and was a massive flop. Work
      B!txh was the same.

      • Rosie April 14, 2014

West Coast has been out on iTunes US for less than six hours. You tried.
See you tomorrow after it goes top 5 (and possibly #1) in the UK, just like it is right now in America.

      • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

        Did you just read yourself?
Exactly! 6 hours is nothing hahahah

      • Rosie April 14, 2014

But West Coast has actual hype and acclaim outside of forums filled with stans and gays.
Not to mention UV will open with higher numbers than both of those albums respectively, just like BTD opened with almost 4x more copies than Chav’s last album in the UK.

      • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

But cheryl has still sold more right? Ok.
You read yourself with your first comment.
I see no hype. Let’s see if she can chart higher
        Than ed sheeran

      • Rosie April 14, 2014

#3 right now in the US. That’s Ed’s new single’ peak on US iTunes.
        Give up.

      • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

I seriously can’t at you bragging about a
6 hour old chart peak on iTunes. That
Just means that all of her fans bought the
Single. Somo was number one on the albums
Chart for days, but is projected to sell 25 k.
        I can’t with your delusion.

  49. Rosie April 14, 2014

“Lana Del Rey most mentioned artist at Coachella”

Bu-bu-but LORDE will overshadow her!!!1 they said.

    • Dirty Laundry April 14, 2014

Beyonce was the most talked about artist at Coachella babe.

  50. Rosie April 14, 2014

“Billboard Top Coachella Performances: #4. Lana Del Rey”

Bu-bu-but no one was checking for her! She sounded TERRIBLE!!!!1

    • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

Still waiting for your response to why
90 percent of Lana’s singles don’t chart. Just
Checked her chart peaks in the uk too, they’re
      Horrendous for an “arena” artist.

      • Rosie April 14, 2014

Still kii-ing at you clinging to chart peaks from 2 years ago and American venues. Meanwhile Chav is such a has-been in the UK that she’s less relevant than Cher Lloyd (another artist who was able to release and tour in the UK, something Chav will never do in her entire career).

      • Rosie April 14, 2014

        *US

      • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

You still haven’t answered my question.
Those receipts are from 2012-14. You
Can’t come for cheryl when her lowest
        Charting single is 18.

      • Rosie April 14, 2014

And you can’t come for anyone when her local ass can’t even chart in mainland Europe.

      • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

You keep trying. Why does Lana peak so
Low in the uk? Isn’t that her biggest market?
Cheryl’s lowest peak is 18 and fight for
This love charted in the top 10 in over 19
Countries plus the European hot 100.
        You f****** tried b****.

      • Rosie April 14, 2014

Weak drag. Video Games charted in more countries and you just tried to drag it for flopping in the US.
And Lana’s biggest market is Germany, another mainland European market that pays Chav absolute dust. Not to mention its a bigger worldwide market than the UK (check IFPI).

But NOT the European Hot 100! No one gives a s*** about that chart. Cling to 2009 though!

      • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

I see 10 countries where video games
Charted. The majority of the chart positions
Weren’t in the top 10. You tried again. You
Brought up Europe, and I brought the
        Receipts.
And your drag is irrelevant because
Germany just passed the uk this year. This,
It doesn’t apply to Lana. Only to her brand
New single. Keep f****** trying, I’ll keep
        Bringing the receipts.

    • The truth hurts April 14, 2014

The real kiiii is that lana is now turning into one of the most anticipated contemporary female performers after all the f*** on this site tried to out her down

  51. Navy Commander(AUBRIH) April 14, 2014

Lana slaying charts songs and venues

    • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

Death at venues and singles. 3k capacity + a
      91 chart peak.

      • The truth hurts April 14, 2014

Death at you holding on to that same tired drag.
Call me when Cheryl isn’t scared to release in the US and she can actually book a venue there

      • Rosie April 14, 2014

Death at you clinging to the same tired drag and a lead single from over two years ago. Let me know when “Britain’s Sweetheart” can be more relevant than Little Mix.

      • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

She’s obviously not slaying charts or
Venues tho! Hahah. So it wasn’t a tired
Drag, it was a relevant one. Why is Lana’s
Median peak around 90. And that’s
Worldwide, not just in the us. You
        F****** tried.

      • Rosie April 14, 2014

You obviously haven’t looked up her worldwide receipts. Video Games, Blue Jeans, and Summertime Sadness (the original) were all hits there.
Emphasis on worldwide, something Chav will never accomplish.

      • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

Death. Absolute death. If Lana has 14 singles,
4 of which have charted, then 70 percent of
Her singles haven’t. Keep reading yourself
        Babe. Those ARE the receipts.

  52. The truth hurts April 14, 2014

#5 on US iTunes……. where have all the doubters disappeared to

    • Rosie April 14, 2014

You heard it’s being rush-released in the UK tomorrow due to demand? Poor ChavSoldier.

      • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

Why do most of Lana’s singles miss the charts
In every country she’s releases her music in?

      • Rosie April 14, 2014

Why is Chav too scared to release outside of the UK, then? Miss me with that tired shade. All you have is the same two drags. At least Fagbird is creative.

      • CherylSoldier April 14, 2014

What are your drags? That cheryl hasn’t

Yeah! I’m so excited. When that May 18th release date appeared on her website I nearly died. I think it’ll do well in the UK because radio 1 has really taken I liking to it

I found out that the reason this song sounds like The Neighbourhood’s music is because she snagged their producer. I’m booing to this song right now def one of the best releases this year. I wonder if Rosie even knows what I’m talking about.

Oh, I like the Neighbourhood. I didn’t know Dan Auerbach produced for them.

Poor Chav stan. All it has to cling on to is Lana’s US tour dates and single sales. Bitter because it’s fave’s career is over after her last album bombed. I feel sorry for it. I knew its ass would be perched right here as soon as I got home. From now on I’ll start paying it dust just like the Brits paid its fave after Call My Name and like the rest of the world has been doing for her entire career.
#3 now! The top spot does seen so far out of reach after all.

“West Coast” is currently sitting at the #3 position on the iTunes top 100 chart without a music video, within hours of its radio release and without promotion. In which case, this indicates a strong showing of support from her fan base as well those discovering her as a strong pop female vocalist thanks to Coachella, her musical contributions to The Great Gatsby soundtrack, as well as the rendering of “Once Upon a Dream” for Maleficent, and the undoubtedly top 40 favorite Cedric Gervais remix of “Summertime Sadness.” All in all, ULTRAVIOLENCE may prove to be a strong sophomore LP outing for the talented Elizabeth Grant.

The sound of the song is distinctly different and quite a departure from the sounds of “Born To Die” and it’s companion EP “Paradise,” which proves to be refreshing and peculiarly satisfying. Because now we are treated to a new sound from the singer, which is a throwback to 60’s rock infused with psychedelic synths and crooning vocals. The change in tempo and the weaving of surf rock is very well received. For most it may come as a strange choice for a female vocalist, but then again, this is the Lana Del Rey, who is an unconventional artist and that is what makes her unique. Therefore the consensus of the public, who is familiar with EDM driven pop tracks, is that this new single is either a “flop” or terrible… But I guarantee that if a band of the alternative genre, Imagine Dragons or Coldplay for example, composed this song, then they would be hailed as genius songwriters…

But let’s just cut to the chase, the song was produced by Dan Auerbach and cowritten by Rick Nowels… These people know what they are doing and work with performers who have artistic integrity. The reason why Lana does not sound like Katy Perry or Britney Spears is because that is not her musical style. And I for one think it’s great to see such a strong performer at the reigns of her career, calling the shots, singing and writing the songs she wants, directing and creating music videos as well as collaborating with the people she knows will respect her decisions and not try to make her into a one hit replaceable pop star.

On conclusion, “West Coast” is an intriguingly brooding song that reminds us why we fell in love with the “Born To Die” era while succeeding in breathing new life into the imagery that Lana portrays and her much anticipated LP “ULTRAVIOLENCE.”
