Katy Perry Sued By Lecrae & Other Gospel Rappers Over #1 Hit ‘Dark Horse’
The blockbuster hit ‘Dark Horse’ (featuring Juicy J) may have ridden Katy Perry right to the top of charts earlier this year, but now it appears its next destination may be the courtroom.
According to reports, gospel rapper Flame is suing the Christian singer turned pop diva over the tune’s similarity to his song ‘Joyful Noise,’ featuring Grammy-winning gospel rapper Lecrae and more. The defendants claim that ‘Dark Horse,’ released five years after ‘Joyful Noise,’ not only infringes copyright through its consent-less use of the music, but also “irreparably tarnished [‘Joyful Noise’] by its association with the witchcraft, paganism, black magic, and Illuminati imagery evoked by the same music in ‘Dark Horse’.”
No word on if/when Perry will battle the trio in court. Take a listen below and tell us: do the tunes sound similar?
New Song: Jason Nelson – ‘I Am’
Talented gospel singer/songwriter and musician Jason Nelson releases ‘I Am’ – the first single from his third album JESUS REVEALED, available October 7th on RCA Inspiration.
A powerful ballad that showcases the newly appointed bishop’s heart for worship and his dynamic vocal ability. ‘I Am‘ captures God speaking to his people of His perfect ability and power through Jason’s voice. Written by Jason and long-time music partner, Dana Sorey, the tune is available now on radio and can be purchased on all digital providers beginning July 8.
