For too long, the B that stands in R&B stood for boring, with many of the genre’s staple steering clear of the creativity that saw the likes of SWV, Jon B and Missy Elliott rise to the top globally in the 90s, to embrace a sound that screamed…well…local.

Fortunately for fans of Jennifer Hudson, her brand new number ‘It’s Your World’ is anything but that.

The perfect fusion of Dance and R&B, ‘World‘ marks the latest jam to be lifted from the singer’s forthcoming LP, and sees Hudson set her sights on an audience far wider than her core fan base with a feel-good vibe with wide reaching appeal.

Why Hudson stands just one radio deal away from scoring her first ‘Hot 100′ hit?

Enjoy below…

Such a tune!

Though it could have done without R.Kelly‘s contribution, ‘World’ is just what Hudson needs to push its parent album, marking a departure from her sound of yesteryear while remaining authentically Jennifer.

If only her R&B siblings would see the light and broaden their production horizons so that they could land potential hits akin to this.

For, while many an R&B diva collects scraps from producers who save their best work for the Rihanna‘s and Beyonce‘s of the world, Hudson earned herself a smash by calling on the DJ Terry Hunter!

The result?

Jennifer’s strongest single to date.

Jennifer Hudson can sing, but nowadays it takes more than slimming down and working with producers to move units. I mean the chick has an Oscar and earns praise from countless industry vets and insiders. The general public could do with or without her and that’s the problem. You can be talented and beautiful and if the public isn’t interested, it can kill any possibility of you becoming a star. It’s been almost 8 years since Dream Girls and 6 since she released her debut, if it was going to happen for her(musically) it would’ve happened by now. Cute song though

I agree with everything you said. I also think it applies to Brandy. The industry loves to sing Brandy’s praises and she is extremely talented, but outside of her die hard fans, the general public could careless. I mean her LAST hit album was 12 years ago

    Another FLOP for her

Umm…R&B? This is not a fusion at all. It’s disco! Why does this generation always think that they’re creating things that’s existed way before they were even a tickle in their daddy’s sack. It’s not a great song. It’s okay.

Clearly people on here don’t have an ear for good music. Cuz this is dope!!!

Why does everyone still insist on working with this child m*******?!?!?! Anyways, the song is cute, I like it, but I don’t see it being a huge hit unfortunately. Maybe adult contemporary & dance charts but that’s about it

    • Julian July 1, 2014

I don’t get it either, I wouldn’t wanna be anywhere NEAR that creep!!

      • Beygency July 1, 2014

AT ALL. It’s honestly a shame that he gets to still make music & millions conflict free. Ridiculous.

I found your whole cynical write-up on R&B to be snide and unnecessary. Jennifer, bless her heart, could do any type of music and the results would most likely be generally the same. It has little to do with her making adult R&B or “broadening” it to fit shopping mall pop. She’s basically a more chocolate, church-ier version Leona Lewis. Obviously talented, nice to look at, cordial/pleasant in presentation, but doesn’t have the right image to immediately strike a cord with the average listener or the right team behind her to manipulate the market in her favor. If someday she manages to score a hit, it’ll be because luck was finally on her side, but it won’t be because of any of what you’re talking about. If JHud had made “Blurred Lines,” “Happy” or even “Problem,” chances are it wouldn’t have charted significantly better than “Spotlight.”

THIS SOUNDS LIKE A LOST SONG FROM THE “DREAM GIRLS” SOUND TRACK. ITS A CUTE SONG BUT DEFINITELY NOT SINGLE MATERIAL. SHE’S EXTREMELY TALENTED BUT SOMEHOW DOESNT CONNECT WITH THE GENERAL PUBLIC. AND I THINK IT HAS TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT SOMETIMES SHE COMES ACROSS AS COCKY. IT ALMOST SEEMS LIKE SHE KNOWS SHE’S TALENTED AND IT SHOWS. PLUS SHE OVER SINGS MOST SONGS. ITS HARD TO TELL IF SHE WILL EVER HAVE A NUMBER ONE SINGLE OR ALBUM BUT I DO WISH HER THE BEST. AND SHE HASNT REALLY DONE ANYTHING AFTER DREAM GIRLS. THAT WAS HER PEAK SO FAR.

NO Shade, no no no no shade, but where is Fantasia!
I’m sure Fantasia would do this song justice!
No Shade. I love Jennifer i do, but she just doesn’t pull my attention.
Great voice and even better Actress! They need to stop trying to make her the new Whitney and just try and make her J Hud with a twist. LOL

So has she given up on “Walk It Out” already? Shame because it’s a good song. I like “It’s Your World” and it has potential to be a hit, but I don’t care for her screaming at the end. I don’t understand why she insists on singing every song as if there’s no microphone.

    • Cameron July 1, 2014

That’s not screaming, that is singing in A5, B5, F#5…Something your favorite could never do…Just because you don’t understand it, don’t be rude…Jennifer is a true soprano and if you can’t get with it, then just move on.

      • DD July 1, 2014

And you know who my fave is, how? Those may be the notes she’s hitting but she’s not singing them, she’s screaming them at full volume which is why they’re mixed down so low on the track otherwise they’d blow out your speakers. She’s been able to belt out those power notes before without it sounding so unpleasant: “Dressed Up In Love”, “Invisible” and “Stand Up” just to name a few and it never sounded this grating and strained. And you’re not the police to tell anybody to move on. This is a message board so I can and will type whatever I want.

    • Cameron July 1, 2014

If it’s anybody in this generation of horrible artists, then they can’t do it. I’m a leggiero tenor and I know when someone is screaming. That is called belting in the chest. You don’t know what you are talking about. LOL. There is nothing strained about those notes. That is pure pristine power and wailing. Don’t get mad at me if you’re so used to mediocre singers that you can’t recognize a dramatic soprano.

      • DD July 2, 2014

I don’t have time for you assumptions, un-informed opinions and insults.

  12. stan July 1, 2014

what are you talking about? this song is basic & boring. there’s no “oomph” to it and it sounds like a song that’s been done before.
