Janelle Monae On Michael Brown Murder: “I’m Trying To Figure Out A Better Solution Than Having Hate In My Heart”

I’m trying to figure out a better solution than getting really upset and having hate in my heart

Janelle Monae had that to say when quizzed on the murder of teenager Michael Brown days ago, gunned down by a police offer in Ferguson, Missouri.

How the ‘Electric Lady‘ has been affected the horrific murder?

Her interview with ‘Vibe’ below…

‘Vibe’ reports:

“I’m from Kansas City, so I’m four hours away from St. Louis,” explains Janelle. “It’s a time where I’m trying to be still and at the same time, doing all that I can to bring awareness to certain issues that I would love for us to all figure out, and get together and create music that can nurture and heal our communities as we move forward.”

Amid the media attention on Michael Brown and Ferguson, the “Electric Lady” singer reminds us that this isn’t the first time tragedy has struck a young black man.

“What’s going on in Ferguson is not the first time this has happened,” she says. “You have Trayvon Martin and other cases that don’t get the publicity. As a black woman, I’m more in tuned with those tragedies that happen because it affects people who look like my cousins and my brothers and sisters. There are certain prejudices and a certain lens that people look at us through. Not all people but this isn’t the beginning of it.”

Artists like J. Cole and B.o.B. have released music dedicated to Brown and Janelle is trying to figure out how to respond in her own way, without giving into her emotions.

“I’m trying to figure out a better solution than getting really upset and having hate in my heart,” says Janelle, who is working on her next project, Eephus. “The thing is, you can’t bring somebody’s life back. When you take somebody’s life, you rob them of being able to be a better person. That really frustrates me. I’m just trying to be strategic. I know I can’t do things alone but I don’t underestimate the power of one woman or one man. I am in the process of doing what I can to not let my emotions guide me but letting my heart guide me. At the same time, allowing peace and love to be my guide.”

What do you make of the case?

I hate that the legal system forces the dead black
boys to have their characters defended when they aren’t even here to defend themselves
They portray them as thugs for doing s*** like throwing up the peace sign
But when a white girl dies me media covers up her drunk partying ways . Look @ the Natalee Holloway case and how they wouldn’t admit she went off In a foreign country with men she had just met.

White people are the biggest disease this planet has ever seen.

That’s an horrible thing to say, if a white person say the exactly same thing you just say about black people, that person would be crucified by the world, or in the case of this site, the comment would be removed and he/she banned from commenting but you get a pass because you’re black and since your ancestors were slaves, you have all the right to say such a sad thing.

^but look at the history they have attacked and killed literally EVERY other race

And then get celebrated like Christopher Columbus dumb ass

Thought he was in India when he was in America and somehow a hero

I think too many statements and determinations are being made and they’re based on strong feelings and emotions rather than facts. Yes, young black men are scrutinized more heavily than any other racial group, but we don’t help to minimize that by going and hitting up a convenience store for cigars. One thing that separates Trayvon from Michael Brown is Trayvon never robbed a gas station and never shoved an innocent store clerk trying to protect his business. Trayvon paid for items he could easily have used his hoodie to steal, but he didn’t–that’s not thug behavior.

@faf in regards to your moronic comment, which is worse.. whites killing other races as you say, or the African race killing their own damn people? Because the highest rates of black deaths are committed by other blacks.

    • Vandrea August 28, 2014

The highest rates of white deaths are committed by other whites, what’s your point? People kill me trying to sideswipe the outrage that comes with racial hate crimes by bringing up things like black-on-black crime; as if there’s some kind of hypocrisy living in that analogy. A totally separate issue. When a black man kills another black man, it wasn’t because he didn’t like the color of that other black man’s skin and is taking his rage out while sending the message to others that they could be next. When a white man kills a black man, eh…

      • ronnoc August 28, 2014

My point is that blacks slaughter their own race and nobody bats an eye.. one gets killed by an (insert other race) and there’s outcry everywhere. It’s completely ridiculous. Furthermore, I can name COUNTLESS cases where whites were killed by some other race, but if we made a big deal out of it, we would automatically be labeled racist. . Complete b*******.

      • ronnoc August 28, 2014

And I’m not trying to side swipe anything. It’s just stupid that no matter what, if a black is killed by a white, blacks automatically think it was just bc of his skin color.. that is sometimes the case, but have you ever stopped to think that MAYBE it occurred because he was acting crazy, not because he was black…

@s****** Blonde, SMH was wrong for saying that, but honey you have to admit that white people not all but mannn. I mean this dates back to hundreds and thousands of years ago. They have done soooo much to different races and ethnic groups. Migrating and killing and taking over lands( killing Native Americans,Jews,Blacks, imposing will on others). Majority of the major wars that has happened on this earth were started by white people. This is fact. Then they try to hide it or sweep it under the rug, then when someone throws up the race card they get frustrated or they want us to be calm, I guess afraid to be overthrown. It’s another way to keep us under control. Once we are calm, they do it again. A lot of White people just think they’re better than all the race, and groups of this earth. Today,Christopher Columbus is nothing but a killer to me, yet in a white public school I was taught that he was a hero and the Native Americans were the savages. The Taíno,Carib(indigenous people of the Caribbeans) were the savages. I can’t believe that was being taught in school.

without us whites you would still be in a bananatree science shows that the white race has the highest average IQ thats why all major inventions come from whites and Europe was civilized while you people were eating dirt..
