Roller-coaster.
If there’s any phrase that best captures the recent years of Alexandra Burke‘s career, it’d be exactly that. Roller-coaster.
The X Factor winner has triumphed with a number of chart-topping smashes; yet since parting ways with Simon Cowell and her subsequent record label after that, her journey has been one filled with both promising highs and challenging hurdles.
In an open letter to fans, the vocal powerhouse revealed that while she’s gearing up to release a new EP – it’ll be without the shepherding of former Def Jam juggernaut Kevin Liles. The exec and his KWL team, who manage the likes of Trey Songz, had been working with Burke on her much anticipated US debut. However, she has confirmed that they have now gone their separate ways.
Details below…

Hey Guys and Girls.
First of all I hope you are all well…
As I’ve allowed the dust to settle since the Bodyguard has ended.. I’ve realised its time for an update. The Bodyguard was a fantastic experience that allowed me to really learn a lot about myself. For example, I’ve tapped into other skills that I’ve always wanted to enhance. It was a true blessing to be out there constantly performing for you all. Thank you to those who travelled from near and far to support me during the show, it was a unforgettable moment in my career and I’m grateful I got the chance to share it with you all.
Moving on, I believe it’s only right that I inform you all that I have parted ways with KWL. I was with KWL for 18 months and unfortunately what we had hoped to achieve didn’t come to fruition. Therefore, I felt it was best to go in a new direction and I wish KWL all the best with their future endeavours.
To not beat around the bush, the last couple of years have been really challenging, professionally & personally. There have been some targets and dreams that I wished I could have accomplished but due to various factors, (some beyond my control and some that I need to learn from), they have not been achieved. It has not been ideal to say the least, but I am always trying to be the best that I can be.
Despite these challenges, I’ve turned the corner when I rediscovered my happiness in The Bodyguard. It helped me to move forward with my confidence and belief to push on with the things that I love – being music, acting and performing to a live audience.
Something I’m really excited about sharing is the release of my new EP that will be available towards the end of the year.
I also have some exclusive events coming up in the new year for you all to look forward to with more surprises coming your way.
So watch this space!! 😉
Thank you all for your support
Through all the highs and lows.
It means the world to me.Peace and Love.
AB XOXO
Having anticipated Alex’s US arrival for years, we’d be deceiving ourselves if we said we weren’t disappointed by this latest set-back. That said, who knows (the irony being that few “know-know” what caused the split)…perhaps it’s a less a set-back, but more a set-free moment.
Whatever the case, we just hope Ms. Burke makes the right power moves to ensure her talent is given the platform it deserves to shine and shine bright. Whether that means new American management, a new major label deal, and/or another theatre production; we’re just keen to see her “win” sooner rather than later.
She was amazing when she first came out. First 4 singles were great!!! Then her fashion went downhill and then I hated her second album…. I don’t think she’ll ever crack the States… Too much like Beyonce… Speaking of Beyonce, have you seen the duet they did?!!!! Love it!!!
Syco did a really bad job at managing her after the rerelease of her first album. They knew what they were doing though, they wanted to drop her so they would have enough money to launch 1D and Cher Lloyd. Sad as she was the only X Factor contestant I ever fully bought into.
Yea. X Factor is such a waste of time if you’re gonna be dropped just like that… Of course Simon would keep 1D for the 12 year old girls…
Stop giving your opinion on American General public…. When you’re in Iceland/Scotland… No tea… No shade.
Ugh…
I was a big fan of Alexandra Burke’s and thought she had a lot of potential, but if she’s hoping to pursue a music career, well I think that ship has sailed. It’s been God knows how many years since she had a hit single and even at her peak she was only a local star. I also understand there’s a lot of ill-will towards her in the UK. I’d love her to make a comeback, but realistically it’s just not going to happen.
I saw her in the street one day, a bunch of paps where following her. Sad how her only resort now is Broadway. Soon she will start going on come dine, big brother, strictly, I’m a celeb.
