A week after tarnishing TLC’s ‘Unpretty’ and Beyonce’s ‘Pretty Hurts’, Cheryl Cole is back on her acoustic grind – this time serving up a stripped back take on her chart-topping single ‘Crazy Stupid Love’.
The rationale? To promote the performer’s fourth solo album ‘Only Human’, which hits stores on November 10th.
Despite being designed to showcase the star’s voice, the setup saw The X Factor judge padded by backing singers and ample instrumentation.
Still, how did she fare? Find out below…
Water into wine…
Much better arrangement for an otherwise dreadful song.
In all fairness to Cheryl, she possess traits that make her an effective Pop star…on paper. Indeed, she looks the part, acts the part, and provides enough tabloid fodder to ensure she gets the parts. However, that voice of hers is so mundanely monotone that it jarrs to no end. Never have we noted an act with so many flats, sharps, and cracks on actual studio released vocals as we have on Cheryl’s. It’s abominable.
Still, she’s collecting her coins and column inches. So we doubt it’s any sweat off her back. It will, however, be interesting to see if she’s able to collect with this project the one thing that’s eluded her career in recents years – album sales.
