Months before the release of her new studio album, Lady GaGa has questioned the intentions of performers who don’t pen their own material this year, questioning the motivation behind their decision to pursue a career in music.

In a recent conversation with ‘Yahoo‘, the ‘Starstruck’ singer shared:
If you’re not gonna write your own music you better be able to blow. Because if you can’t blow, there’s no reason to do the job. But then you think about artists that can’t really sing, that have songs written for them, and it’s like, well why are they artists? Why are companies paying money to promote them? Because they’re beautiful and look good on camera and are kinda-sorta singing along? It’s like karaoke for pretty girls. When you’re a singer-songwriter it doesn’t really matter if you’re beautiful. What matters is that you create a relationship with your fans, and they care what you have to say.
Though set to ruffle a few “stan” feathers, GaGa‘s question is one worth asking?
If an entertainer isn’t exceptionally talented and can’t build their own bops, why choose to be an artist?
Ironically, the answer to her question can be found in the title of her debut album.

Record labels are always telling people this about their artist to make them look good. There are artist that can write great music, Gaga is not one of them. I’ll use her and Neyo for an example. They both can write hits, Neyo can write great songs. But there’s a limit to the average that they can go before just sounding the same time after time. Both already reached that limmit, I can tell a Neyo song a mile away. Gags songs are NOTHING to write home about.
You have to add the point that there’s songwriters that can’t sing a note, but can write the bible. This is the business for them. As for recording artist, it comes down if you’re marketable or not. If it was just pretty faces gets the deal, then the whole model ide would be singers. No, we seen time and time again that a pretty face will help, but at the end you have to have IT. Rather it is singing your b*** off (Whitney), dancing your @ss off (Janet), or just knowing how to market yourself (Madonna). Gaga may be a balanced performer, but that’s not say all, be all.
