For, after news surfaced that the 5 octave songbird is readying a nest on the Vegas strip in late 2015, reports now indicate that the ‘Vision of Love’ diva may be getting an eyeful of former nemesis Jennifer Lopez on that very circuit.
Earlier this week, we reported Lopez declined her initial offer. Now, with official numbers going public, it seems the ‘Waiting for Tonight’ singer may be weighing her options:
“Jennifer Lopez passed the “Vegas Residency Test” with flying colors on New Year’s Eve, and in the process scored more than $400K.
[According to sources], Lopez raked in $410,000 for her NYE performance at Caesars Palace…the point of the gig was to see if Lopez was a sufficient draw for a full-on residency.”

If the above rings true, the reignited competition between Lopez and Carey will certainly be cause for many a conversation piece – especially here at That Grape Juice. For, while it’s no secret that 2014 was unkind to both divas, the two are still fair concert draws – as evidenced by the sold out crowd in attendance to witness J.Lo’s NYE set and Carey’s NYC showings respectively.
As the strip stars get young and younger, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, and Britney Spears are proof that the stigma of Vegas being “where successful careers go to die” is slowly, but surely, being lifted. Lopez and Carey could continue that progression.
As ‘American Idol’ is no longer doing the trick for either, do you think Vegas runs will be just what the two need to spark interest in their newer projects?

Mariah carey is vocal legend and songbird. She has songs that have lasted 25 years and are played at Weddings (endless love), Graduations (hero) and funerals (i’ll be there and One Sweet Day). Mariah Carey is in the Vein of Whitney, Aretha, Celine, Barbara Streisand. To even mention HER name in the same sentence with Jennifer Lopez is sad and disrespectful. Jennifer Lopez is an actress and she can’t hold a NOTE, she is not a singer. She is a latino who has stolen Janet jacksons flame and swag but does not have 1/2 of Janets Energy, Catalog or ability.

Britney blatantly lipsyncs, but she’s been scorned for it for almost 20 years, so nobody is surprised and the people who matter to her don’t care.
But Mariah, Celine, Beyonce & Jennifer are very professional with their lipsyncing, as it mostly flows perfectly with the live mixture. Each of them has their own unique reason for lipsyncing, but what sets them apart is that their fans will always love them regardless.
Mariah and Celine’s fans love them in spite of any lipping because they resonate with the songs and the women themselves.
And Jen and Bey’s fans love them in spite of any lipping because they both put on incredibly electrifying extravaganzas and they’re absolute BEASTS on stage.
What sets them apart is that they’re unique in their own ways, and depending on your taste, you gravitate towards the one(s) you love.
But they all are very deserving of their success.
And usually their haters hate them because they can’t stand their personalities, which is fine, but there’s really nothing they can do about that.

You sound crazy, as Celine Dion did Vegas and didn’t dance, not to mention Mariah sold out Vegas plenty of times. Mariah can stiff dance to a prerecorded track all day, but that’s not entertainment when it comes to HER artistry. Two different lanes.
Celine Dion has the greatest and biggest show in Vegas ever. Known for her voice. Can Cher dance? (or sing live?) No, she can´t either. Try again with your shade.
Both women are in their own lanes and if we being real its about peference after seeing Jlo NYE show on HBO I was not remotely impressed at all and I’m curious about the ratings. As for MC she’s no dancer or entertainer by any means but I notice when she is in an intimate setting with her fans and she takes care of her voice she is still a tour de force as she has proven with her Christmas shows and the Pearl in Vegas some years ago.
The best she´s been recently was in Australia in November.

While Mariah has nothing to worry about, she will be pissed. Mariah has never taken a liking towards Jennifer and it goes deeper than just singing and talent. If you remember around the time that Mariah had her mental breakdown was when Jennifer Lopez started doing hip hop/r&b songs with the likes of Ja Rule, Nas etc. Prior to that, that was Mariah’s lane where she was doing the same with P. Diddy, Lox, Busta, Mobb Deep, etc. Mariah knew her talent surpassed Jennifer’s but Jennifer was making hits doing the same type of music and garnering a lot more fans….and she could dance unlike Mariah.
Jennifer was also being managed by Mariah’s former management at Sony along with Benny Medina. Now you have this whole Vegas thing where Mariah just announced that she was taking up residency there in preparation for a show and now Jennifer is doing the same. Tsk tsk. The music business can be rough for artists sometimes. Hopefully they can both win in Vegas!

Also, Mariah was spotted in the Caesars Palace a day or two ago, and she’ll be on Ellen next Thursday, so I’m guessing Mariah is definitely doing it. I would love for both to do it and become friends. This silly “fued” between the two is so old and irrelevant. They simply don’t know each other.
Now!, when Beyoncé decide to retire I believe she will be the most paid ever!! She can snatch both of their wigs rite now and get more money than both of them.

PS: it´s funny that TGJ has massively reported about Mariah Carey´s bad year but rarely about JLo´s, only to adknowledge it in articles like this one. Let me tell you, JLo flopped twice as hard as Mariah. She sold hald the copies of her album despite all the promo and effort and then more, while Mariah stayed at home getting her divorce. Plus JLo is always getting these generic collabos to at least be heard on radio, and still she can´t make anyone care about her album. Mariah had a pretty successful tour in Australia and Asia too.
