As debate rages on about last night’s Grammy Awards, one name that is Team Not Impressed is R&B crooner Trey Songz.

During the broadcast, the 30-year-old singer took to Twitter to vent his frustrations with his lack of nominations….while stressing that he’s supposedly unbothered.

Trey’s rant below…

**************

There may elements of truth in Trey’s statements – especially when considering that the likes of Nas and Bob Marley have never “won” a famed gramophone, while Mariah Carey and Diana Ross have so few.

Yet we can’t even begin to marinate on Trey’s words because his last LP ‘Trigga’ was trash. Did he really expect nominations for ‘NaNa’ or ‘Touchin Lovin’?

From where we’re standing, he’s been making the same album over and over since ‘Ready’ – with each project being progressively worse than the last.

He needs to evolve musically if he ever wants to be taken seriously critically.

    Dear trey, your music as no merit; you have made bad single choices and the same bump and grind sexual songs over and over; Grow up and make music worthy of us buying and voting for you;

    Your wasting your talent trying to be sexual; AND SIDENOTE: IF YOU SECRETLY LIKE MEN….stop hiding;

    • Al February 9, 2015

Well said Missy, if your music was a little but decent as Miguel or Kendrick you’d get a nod. Come out the closet and do a ‘Frank Ocean’ might get a nod for Flying Out The Closet From Narnia Award

Why should he not have felt he deserved a grammy for Nana s*** beyonce got one for drunk in love. No difference in the content. Both about s**. But I guess only beyonce can get away with singing about surf boarding and lips on mics and win an award for it.

    • ronnoc February 9, 2015

DIL had a significant impact this year. Nobody gives a flying fuxk about Nana or whatever it’s called.

  8. XYZ February 9, 2015

for what should he receive a grammy? constantly singing bout s**? he’s a one trick Pony and should just be glad that he has some success

Well, i do like Trey’s music. I bought chapter 5 album if his which was my last and it was horrible. Smh. But I will say is PPP album? The one before that and after “Ready” was really a great album. I’d say that was an album about love and other topics. He balanced that one good. After that? Smh down hill. He needs get back to that but with growth because I’ve seen none from him since then. I think August Alsina is up and coming though. I have to go get his album because I heard it was excellent.

  11. TRUTH SERUM February 9, 2015

Ooh, Sam is the king of shade!!! lol

  12. Hmmmm February 9, 2015

Did Trey just use the word “shade”…hmmm, interesting >.>

  13. mr.m February 9, 2015

    Your music SUCKS honey. TRUTH.FACT.DEAL
    YOU ONLY SELL S**.. Bye

  14. Gee February 9, 2015

Trey needs to have more balanced content if he wants his craft to be rewarded and recognized.

  15. Arie February 9, 2015

Black artists need to realize that the Grammys are for white people and rock nation artists.

  16. TheElusiveLamb February 9, 2015

Trey is going to have to sing about more about other topics rather than s** all the time. A few s** songs are ok, but his entire albums are about s**. He’s cute and etc, but switch it up. I think his next album will have to be his most mature work to date.

  17. Kingkillerbee February 9, 2015

At the end of the day, he’s speaking truth. The Grammys feels as tho as long as they keep giving it to J & B, the black culture will be satisfied. However I’m no fool I see the shade but black people don’t just as long as they can d*** ride J & B.

  18. KING RIH February 9, 2015

He needs to be mad at Bey for stealing his Grammy in 2010. Ready >>> I am… Sasha Fierce

  19. AmbeRussell February 9, 2015

Welp black artist should strive to make better music than than the turnt up s** song for the young adults. Was any one expecting him to get nominated anyways? But I woulda rather see the worst win best rnb song.
Anyways, we carry too much importance for the Grammys when it isn’t voted by us. But when the soul train awards come around they turn their backs on the award honoring us. Which causes the fans to ignore it as well

    • Pat February 9, 2015

“Welp black artist should strive to make better music than than the turnt up s** song for the young adults”

@Amber, So whats Bey excuse for Drunk in Love? U sounded really stupid!

  20. DanYiel Teflon February 9, 2015

I dig Trey Songz music he’s a beast with it along side Chris Brown & also August Alsina I dig their sounds & heck folks can’t blame Beyoncé for being nominated for her music the fans like it so carry on its always a SNUB IN THE AFRICAN AMERICAN CATEGORIES!!

  21. Body To Body February 9, 2015

I’ll save my anger for African American artists who GROW with each album. There’s a difference between working your lane and being lazy in it and Trey is doing the latter. He’s a one trick pony whose fan base don’t demand or expect any artistic growth from him and he’s more than happy with that.
The nerve of him to tie the Grammy’s snubbing him to the REAL issues African American artists face!
Marvin Gaye proved that you can talk about s** creatively and still being regarded as credible if you have talent, Trey proves how easy it is for an artist to stay running in the same spot for ten years.

  22. Erik February 9, 2015

No shade, But Trey Songz music lacks SUBSTANCE…He has some pretty decent songs and even albums. But when pretty much everything u do revolves around s**. The Grammies are NOT gonna take u serious #makeagrammyworthyalbum #maybe theyllconsideryou

  23. #TeamTinashe Stan February 9, 2015

Not a Trey fan but I was thinking about him last night on how he never gets recognized at these award shows for his work, only at the BET Awards.

  24. coolness February 9, 2015

Trey needs to find more balance in his musical output because a lot of his music revolves around the subject of s** without being creative with it. However, how are we gonna chastise him when the winner for Best R&B Song/Performance, Drunk in Love and it’s second place contender, Good Kisser, were odes to s**? Note that this is coming from someone who LOVES Beyonce and Usher but isn’t a fan of Trey. I think this is the case of right message, wrong messenger. The snub hit a real nerve because his tour mate, Chris Brown, was in attendance at the Grammys last night and snagged three noms. Think about it, both men debuted a decade ago but Chris found crossover success much quicker and despite his career taking a serious hit in 2009 and being a highly controversial figure afterwards, he is still more popular and successful. The year Chris started to experience career troubles was the same year Trey changed his image and sound with the Ready album (he really did deserve a Grammy for this one) but his numbers never quite added up to that of the former. Simply put, he hasn’t crossed-over the way his predecessors, R. Kelly and Usher did in their prime and that is a result of him not evolving with his music.

  25. R February 9, 2015

Trey Songz needs to sit down.

His music is hardly what I would call pioneering into new territory. He’s got a pretty voice and a pretty face, but he’s singing R. Kelly songs on an overproduced beat.

Him bringing up his #1s is a contradiction: him getting a Grammy would make their awards a popularity contest. He lacks artistry and needs to step up or get over it.

  26. Peaches February 9, 2015

Girl, somebody grab this queen a tissue. Her music is redundant, trite, and banal! She or Onika will never win a Grammy lol.

  27. MISHKA February 9, 2015

Well this not-a-rant was long overdue Trey. Good for you!

If Usher can win a Grammy for “You don’t have to call” and if Beck can win for that whatever sh!t he sings, Trey Songz can definitely snatch a gong over there.

Sam, your statement on Trey’s rant sounds like Beck’s AOTY.

    Eff the Grammys.

  28. Ice February 18, 2015

Well, iThink Trey is a great artiste and makes good music..iAgree with the fact that most of his music revolves around s** and s*** but iDont think Trey hasn’t grown or isn’t versatile, thoese claims aint true..”Chapter V” was such a great album, 95% of the songs on it rocked but what did he get off the Grammys, just a nomination..Kendrick Lamar was fire in 2013 but what did he get off the Grammys, just another nomination..Beyonce can make a music about how her eyes opens and close and win a Grammy (and that’s truth) but a TreySongz have to sing his life out 1st??..Trey is a great artiste/musician and if the Grammys haven’t recognized him yet (as they haven’t to Fabolous) then it’s their fault..I’m comfortable with Trey’s songs
